  1. At this rate he would have to be an ace to be better as a starter. He currently ranks #16 of all pitchers in baseball in fWAR. Now I don't know if he has been that valuable, but it shows he is having a TOR impact in a bullpen role. I think he has the talent to be an amazing starter but it really requires him to develop a change up. If they have decided he just can't get that 3rd pitch I am just fine with him as a bullpen guy.
  2. Fangraphs has been heavily negative on the Brewers for like 15 years now. I'm not exactly sure why but I am not surprised by it.
  3. When you look at Braun's deeper peripherals he is in a 4 year pattern of decline at this point. He is not the same player he was even 2 years ago. Injuries have really derailed his career.
  4. DeGrom out with hyperextended elbow while swinging the bat. The madness has to stop, just really dumb that the AL and NL use different rulesets and that pitchers are still hitting in this day and time. I don't care how old school it is or how much strategy you want to say it adds to the game (it really isn't much), it is just really bad for baseball. Every other league on the planet has realized this at this point except the NL.
  5. I have seen him use it a few times this year, and I remember one time he got a strikeout this year with a changeup Last year he threw his change up a little over 7% of the time. So far this year (not including tonight) he has only thrown it a little over 1% of the time.
  6. Chris Sale started in the bullpen but as soon as he developed a change up he moved into the rotation. If Hader can do the same he most certainly should go to the rotation. The thing is this season at least he has more or less completely dropped his change up and is just fastball/slider. Very few starting pitchers last with just that mix. He either has to develop a 3rd pitch or this is his role long term, one or the other.
  7. Because that would be a complete waste of his talent. Why limit him to just the 9th inning against whatever part of the order happens to be up. If your best relief pitcher is your closer it better be because he can't do more than just 1 inning at a time.
  8. They get 3 inning saves from time to time, I'd be surprised if it isn't at least once a year. It is just a goofy rule since saves is just some made up stat someone who wasn't a part of MLB made up randomly.
  9. Don't see it. They'll blame the wind and tip their caps to the Cubs pitchers. Sogard will still be here tomorrow, Coles will still be here tomorrow. Which is the only really logical thing to do. I mean they could send Sogard down since his stat line looks nothing like the rest of his career. Give him a chance to get his head together. But to fire the hitting coach when you are 16-13 one month into the season is just being knee jerk.
  10. Young players don't magically get better just because they get older. Carlos Gomez comes to mind... Not magic, I’m sure there are swing/mechanical changes but players to find it late in careers. Arcia no where near late in his career. Carlos Gomez had a pretty normal trajectory to his career. Stunk early, was all star level in his late 20's, went back to stinking probably largely due to injuries when he got old. You usually want to wait 1500 PAs before you feel you really know what a player is going to be and even then it isn't perfect. Arcia isn't up to that range just yet and won't be this season. If he hasn't improved by the middle of next season he probably isn't going to do much more improving though.
  11. I don't think I've ever seen the lineup look as bad as they have in this series without striking out a bunch. It is just weak grounder after weak grounder after easy pop out. Just pathetic.
  12. What an awful loss. Easy HR on a complete meatball thrown to a complete meathead.
  13. bWAR and FIP are outdated already~. Here is a link to some of them https://www.xstats.org/glossary/
  14. It is funny/ironic how two people can read the same thing and have completely polar opposite reactions. That article made me greatly admire Pham and his mental toughness and ability to rise above adversity. Yeah I have to back jericho here. Pham comes off as a total jerk in that article. You can't base your opinion of players off of news articles but if I had to I'd assume Pham is one of the bigger jerks in the league.
  15. When you start Hamilton that many games as leadoff and Peraza 2nd while guys like Suarez and Cozart are batting 7th or 8th you deserve to be fired.
  16. Starters are down to about 180 innings now assuming they are healthy. Almost nobody goes 200+ anymore. RP are in the 65-80 IP range. Only 32 starters went over 180 innings last year, 50 RP went over 65. Just like we saw the jump in shifts a few years back we are seeing the jump in the 5-6 IP starter and the 2 IP RP this year. I have seen so many pitchers pulled with 2 outs in the 4th and a lead this season where in the past they would have tried to push them through the 5th to 'get the win'.
  17. It is pretty hard to blow 5 saves in 3 days but we managed it.
  18. Glad the ump is on our side, that was not a strike. Ahh not enough though.
  19. Realistically speaking Anderson is a solid #3, Davies and Chacin are hopefully #4's but may be #5's and Suter is a #6. Not sure what Woodruff is. This rotation needed 2 or 3 better arms and got none, the season was over by the start of spring training.
  20. I don't really care that we have played poorly the last couple of days. I will say that the lack of additions to the starting rotation kept us on the outside looking in for the playoffs and an early season major injury to a part of our team that I think is somewhat weak makes our playoff odds nosedive because they weren't amazing to begin with.
  21. Matchups are pretty much worthless because they focus too much on the results. You can be 4 for 8 against a pitcher and never hit a ball hard. The way matchups are tracked is inherently flawed.
  22. This honestly comes down to just 2 things. Pitchers park and good defense. Both things that the Brewers have lacked over the years. There are very few teams in hitters parks that are known for their ability to develop high end pitching.
  23. The rotation is going to be the biggest problem, especially if there is an injury or two. We really needed to sign another SP.
  24. So 2 options that are considered pretty solid and one that is above replacement but not great. I think these numbers suggest something other than you are suggesting. I think we should have signed a 2B but these numbers say we were probably fine.
  25. Samardzija has a shoulder strain too and will miss 10+ days. That rotation is just awful to start the season.
