  1. I'm glad to see that even though the Brewers were collectively quaking in their boots and knew that the Cubs had their number and there was no way they could ever beat them, they somehow managed to pull through and shut them out. The fragile ego of the MLB player should have denied them the win but somehow against insurmountable odds they persevered.
  2. At no point in his career was there ever reason to think that Alcides could hit. Arcia at least showed some signs at some point. Yuni B is one of the worst full time players to ever play the game.
  3. So basically his couple of game winning hits makes him look better in that stat because of how random baseball is. Not buying it. Same way I'm not buying the Mariners being a good team just because they have an insane record in one run games.
  4. Plush is pretty anti Braun, but I do find it funny that Braun has as many HRs and more RBIs than Bryant in about 50 or so at bats. Which would mean a lot more if HR or RBI were useful stats for judging a player. Bryant has an .885 OPS, 139 wRC+ and 2.2 WAR. Braun has a .770, 101 and 0.6. Bryant has been an all star level player and Braun has been a little below average.
  5. Other people complaining that Knebel was rusty... Can't win either way... This forum is going to attack anything that doesn't work in a particular game no matter whether it is a good or bad decision, it is just how it works.
  6. So at this point any sort of must win to prove they can beat the other team and aren't afraid of them style narrative is out the window for this game. One team is going to win a game that could have easily gone either way and the other team is going to lose and neither are really going to prove anything by it.
  7. Really bad throw by Cain that Villar tried to rush a tag on and didn't complete the catch. Zobrist had no business tagging up on that play but with Cain's poor arm I guess they were just trying to be aggressive. Should have been an easy out if either player had done their job. You have got to be watching a completely different game than me. So I rewound my TV to rewatch it. Cain catches it at least 8 feet in front of the warning track in the gap. That is not a hard throw at all from that spot on the field to 2B, he had time to stop and make a good throw so momentum isn't a factor. The throw is definitely better than it looked to me live, it looked like he one hopped it but they just got unlucky that it missed Villar by about half a foot so he had to try to make an awkward catch on a ball bouncing just out of his reach. Not as bad a play on either player as it looked live.

  9. Cubs won a world series so it is really hard to knock them but the post world series years have been a disaster for them. They went from having one of the best rosters in baseball plus one of the best farm systems to having no farm system at all and a number of very dubious looking contracts. The Cardinals seem to be treading water, they get a nice surprise every season but they never seem to be able to sustain it long term. They don't have the great farm system they used to either. This is not the Cardinals of 5 years ago, they missed the playoffs the past 2 seasons and I expect them to miss it for a 3rd season in a row. The Pirates and Reds are both just done, they are bottom feeders. The Pirates beat up on some awful teams early but that is a bad team with a bad farm system. I don't know where the Brewers rate in all that.
  10. Sure but I think a trade deadline trade would have been a better bet with Davis. I think they were just afraid he'd come out cold and lose all of his value. I blame him a bit more with Scooter who had an option and could have been sent down to AAA for depth. It was probably more a timing thing where they didn't expect to compete and wanted to save that $2M more than anything else. I just think Scooter had shown signs of this breakout his last year in Milwaukee and would have liked them to keep him.

  12. I mean, I guess I get your point ... but are we going to start getting picky about style points when it comes to getting a ring? If the Brewers re-enact the KC years and are a 'bad team' that wins the World Series, I'm not going to be too heart broken. I won't either, but trying to win it all by copying a team that probably shouldn't have won it all is not a good framework. The 2015 Royals were not one of the top 5 teams in baseball, they got hot at the right time and won it all. That isn't how you want to build your team.
  13. The Yelich trade definitely put a time frame on the rebuild. We want to win in the next 3 seasons or so. I think we are aggressive pursuing a SP but I don't know what that name is. I think this year is a sellers market because there are very few dominant teams.
  14. This isn't actually accurate. Most players have their best seasons 3-4 seasons after reaching the majors, age has little to do with it. As the game has gotten younger the peak age has gotten lower. Arcia is likely in his peak this season or next.
  15. The 2015 Royals are one of the worst teams to ever win a World Series though, not a very good team to emulate. Being one of the worst playoff teams and getting hot to win it all is a path to winning a ring but it isn't a very safe one. The Giants did it once, the Cardinals did it once recently, the Royals did. It is certainly plausible, but it isn't reliable.
  16. Haniger was not much of a prospect at the time and he was 'fixed' by someone outside the organization. Hard to call that a fail. That was also at an awkward time for the team where the organization was fine with taking a long term loss for a short term gain because it was going to put butts in the seats for years to come. The Melvin era Brewers were all about just getting a competitive squad on the field, not about sustaining it. The Stearns era is about sustaining it, very different approaches for very different organizational needs.
  17. Davis was traded a year too soon. We could have gotten a lot more for him the following season but apparently didn't believe he was for real. Scooter being released was unfortunate. I don't have the details to know for sure but at the time it felt like they were doing him a favor rather than sticking him in the minors.
  18. So I was about to comment on how this topic is so hard to judge because so many players on the list are so marginal that your opinion can go either way. Then you state this opinion and reassure me that someone can be completely without a doubt wrong even in that environment. Will Smith has been beyond awful since we traded him. Even if all we got was 10 used balls which we threw in the trash we won that trade.
  19. In 2010 24 of the top 50 picks were pitchers. 6 of those 24 became effective major league starters. In 2011 26 of the top 50 picks were pitchers. 6 of those 26 became effective major league starters. In 2012 22 of the top 50 picks were pitchers. 5 of those 22 became effective major league starters. I am being generous calling some guys like Gausman effective here too. Drafting pitching early is insanely risky, I don't blame them at all for going with safer bets and getting pitching later. Pitching develops as much as it is raw talent. I'd rather they draft a guy round 3 or 4 and develop them than chase arm talent earlier in the draft.
  20. Brewers are 5th in the NL in RA/G so it seems to be working. If you look at the best rotations in baseball they have largely been built via trade/FA and not by drafting. Drafting a ton of pitching is how you end up being the Mets.
  21. The Cubs had some flaws in how they handled their roster which took them from a dynasty looking team to just a really good for 5 year type of team. They were completely correct to do it to try to maximize their chances at a world series and the fact they won one makes it even easier of a win for them. They didn't do anything wrong with how they went for it, I just could have seen a scenario where they didn't have to sell the farm to win one.
  22. No. They are still clearly in the race to win the division. They have played awful baseball and had tons of injuries. The Diamondbacks are a flawed offense and their rotation has been injured. The Rockies are not a good team at all and are just sort of getting lucky. The Giants are old and bad and completely failed this offseason by adding even more old. The Padres are a fun team but not a good one. I still think the Dodgers are like 55% likely to win the division even with the bad start. If I had to set odds today I'd set the Dodgers odds higher to win the NL West than the Brewers to win the NL Central or the Braves to win the NL East. To be fair it is the NL and about 25% of the NL playoff races are decided by which teams pitchers get hurt while batting. Just have to hope we get lucky in that department for once.
  23. It would be really strange for 2 RP from the same team to make it. If Knebel hadn't gotten hurt and he had been a completely dominant closer while Hader still did what he has done, I could see it. Jeffress just has almost no chance.
  24. Pretty sure the Maldenado deal was a straight up salary cut at a time where we were in full rebuild mode.
  25. I'm not sure if this was a joke or not at the end but if it was it was a good one. Melvin had his and that's. Rock has his my goodness. Hard to complain about people having a phrase they say too much. She is a decent sideline reporter.
