  1. Which is why I included the minor league stats. The only season that really opens your eyes is the 4th time doing rookie ball.
  2. I wanted to use one of them in fantasy about a month ago and I looked over the logs closely to see if I could predict which one would start any given day. I couldn't find any pattern to their playtime, just seemed random. Probably need a bigger sample before you can draw any conclusions that Pina is being used more often.
  3. I don't think anyone is going to regret losing Miguel Diaz. It took him 4 years just to conquer rookie ball and he has looked awful this year.
  4. On fivethirtyeight the Brewers playoff chances are up to 32%! Cubs are still at 60% but funny to see that number so low this far into the season.
  5. pitch count should be on a sliding scale. When you haven't had to work hard and are deep into game going 110+ is fine. When you struggle all game long and it is the 5th you probably shouldn't go 100.
  6. It was a hard hit ball in the gap that was caught and Sogard never stopped ruining so was an easy out at second.
  7. So both innings the pitcher gets in trouble and both innings we combine awful contact with bad base running to let him off the hook.
  8. Arica sure didn't look like he was running very hard considering how close that play was.
  9. Drake the musician has long been someone I can't stand, Drake the pitcher is rapidly joining him.
  10. I'm not a big Torres guy, but that was a good pitch with a bad result.
  11. That's not a very resounding compliment to our coaching and development personnel in the minor leagues. That is a straw man argument. It is the same thing as Segura where people try to pretend he was never going to be good here. He worked in the off season with someone not related to his team at all and fixed his swing. That is not an organizational issue.
  12. Haniger is a completely different player now than he would have been for the Brewers most likely. He has retooled his swing multiple times because he was not a major league quality player and had to fix it. Who knows if the same results would have happened before the trade. It just isn't realistic to compare players like that.
  13. It is purely the pitching to me. That rotation is going to collapse in the second half. They all have played over their heads except Anderson and that teams pitchers tend to wear down as a rule with all the travel and the high elevation and park. Out of those 3 NL West teams they have the worst run differential as well. I just don't think that team is going to last. They may sneak into the last wild card spot but some team will make them work for it.
  14. I don't totally agree with this but if somewhat true than I feel like WAR (Wins Above Replacement) is being treated like the 2nd coming of Jesus. Current baseball statheads put WAY too much faith in that stat, IMHO. WAR definitely isn't perfect, especially for pitchers. The issue is there really isn't a perfect single stat you can use. WAR is something you go to because it is an objective measure with one single value so it is just easy to use.
  15. All kinds of historical stats are meaningless though. The no hitter is just a worthless stat as an example. Some no hitters were really poorly pitched games where guys walked like 7 guys. Meanwhile the 1 hit, 15 K game gets no recognition. Baseball is riddled with meaningless stats that people worship.
  16. It is just people still using ERA to judge pitching which is just a really bad stat when used in season, especially for RP.
  17. 2nd longest HR of the season behind one hit by Judge. Where he hit it is like 390 feet wall, it landed like 17 rows up. 489 does seem a bit generous but I tend to trust those type of things over the eye test which is usually a bad test.
  18. Maybe I'll just turn this game off and hope to be surprised in the morning.
  19. Knebel would have to bring back more than Chapman did last year to make it worth it. Teams would be trading for him this year plus 4 more years of control and then a possible draft pick. Chapman was a half season rental.
  20. I'm watching the game with my 13 year old daughter who doesn't follow baseball. Her one comment during the Hader vs Gyrko matchup. "His hair is prettier than mine, jealous!"
  21. Looking at teams that I think will really give us trouble. 3 Yankees 3 Rockies 3 Dodgers 4 Twins 6 Nationals 8 Cardinals 11 Cubs We still have 19 games against the division rivals that tend to outplay us. It is a pretty scary schedule once we get out of June. Starting July 25th we play 38 of 61 games against teams that are probably better than us or teams that give us fits at least. Don't be surprised to see us stick around the playoff race until August and then fall out of it in a hurry. That is my personal expectation. I really hope it is wrong.
  22. I definitely think the Brewers best chance for a playoff is for some young pitching to come up and carry them.
  23. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/236553468/twins-used-no-1-pick-to-have-best-2017-draft/?topicid=151437456 1. Twins 2. Reds 3. Pirates 4. Brewers 5. Blue Jays
  24. That Rockies team is going to collapse in the 2nd half. The Wild Card is still open. Too many young pitchers who tend to wear down later in seasons.
  25. After the all star break the first set of games is pretty soft too. August is pretty awful though so I hope we don't become big time buyers.
