  1. It is certainly an issue, but Feliz has a BB/9 under 4 going into today at least.
  2. I'm fine with moving Villar down until he starts hitting, heck you could lead Broxton off since he is hitting over .300 over the past 14 games. There is no reason to platoon him though. Guys start slow, you just push through it and it goes away. Not counting today in his past 15 games he is hitting .258 with a .652 OPS. Not setting the world on fire but it isn't like he is just awful either. He struck out 26% of the time and walked 7%. Last year he struck out 26% and walked 12%. He hasn't been all that far off the last couple of weeks.
  3. KROD has 437 career saves. I will gladly take KROD part 2, I will just choose not to watch the 9th inning very often since it is so terrifying. KROD part 2 has trade value come mid season though so I'm cool with it considering we got Feliz for nothing.
  4. It is so refreshing to see our manager take a pitcher out in this situation. Anderson has thrown a lot of pitches for 5 innings and a lot of them were high stress. Our previous managers would have left Anderson in to try to give him the chance to get a win.
  5. His last 14 day stat line is a .344 AVG with a .948 OPS. And that was before the 3/3 with a double and HR. Now it is over a 1.000 OPS.
  6. Clark is showing acceptable growth for a 20 year old in A+. He is holding his own considering he is 2 years younger than most of his competition. College players sometimes are slow to adjust to the minors so I wouldn't want to judge Ray for another full season.
  7. Well Wainwright isn't an ace anymore. Leake is 29 and Lynn is 30 so not exactly young. Wacha looks good this year and Martinez is a solid #2. I don't think the Cardinals rotation holds up this year either. Lynn and Leake both scream regression is coming.
  8. I really do hope they move Peralta to the pen. He has had ample time to learn that change up to neutralize lefties and it just hasn't happened. Lefties have a career .827 OPS off of him, this year it is 1.061.
  9. Sure. But this far into the season pre season projections are as meaningful as what has happened when deciding what is going to happen in the future. I think it is like the last week in May when what really has happened actually becomes meaningful to the future. Results don't always match the process going on behind the results.
  10. I feel that way too (but hope against it) As to the Giants, who I don't much follow: What happened to them? I do know about Bumgarner's motorcycle folly, but little else. Pence is 34 now, Posey is 30, Belt is 29 and never turned into the guy they thought he would, Crawford is 30, Span is old. Joe Panik is the only young impact player to come up since that second World Series win in 2012. So 4 years of no impact youth is finally catching up to them. Here is the age of their positional roster C - 30,33 1B - 29 2B - 26 SS - 30 3B - 22 (Arroyo just came up) OF - 30,33,34 Then the bench has old guys like Aaron Hill(35) and Mike Morse(35) and Drew Stubbs(32)
  11. Keep in mind their pitching and/or fielding overperformed last year too so some of this is just regression. Not all of it but some of it. That was not the best defensive team in history and the data suggested they were.
  12. It isn't just about the young guys service times. It is about giving the current players a proper amount of time to prove themselves. Davies has looked better, Guerra will be back and need a spot, Anderson and Garza have looked good. Peralta and Nelson have both shown flashes and this is likely their last chance so will get more leash than they would if we were trying to compete. For bullpen spots I think they are going to give Torres more time. Drake and Hughes are probably pretty safe since we traded for them this year and just haven't had enough innings to evaluate them. Barnes and Knebel and Feliz are obviously safe. So there is one spot for someone in the bullpen and it is a spot where you are going to see erratic use most likely. Not the best spot for a young guy.
  13. I think the Giants are going to be in big trouble too. That roster got old fast. The Reds pitching will collapse. I think this Cubs team is weaker than last years but it will still find separation sometime this summer and comfortably take 1st.
  14. Almost nobody is just a throw in. People use this phrase all the time but there is almost never anything really backing it up. If they had removed Anderson from the Segura trade it probably wouldn't have happened. Same with Shaw since we had an obvious need at 3B. Nelson Cruz wasn't a throw in when he was traded either.
  15. Hated the bunt. Hate Aguilar still being on the team. Hate the runner not being smart enough to stop and make Molina come tag him to avoid the double play. Just a rotten inning.
  16. Just watch Odubel Herrera bat once and you realize where the problem is. He is averaging 32 seconds between every pitch. So a 10 pitch AB by him lasts over 3 minutes.
  17. We are 3-7 against likely playoff teams and 10-6 against teams not likely to make it. Sounds like a rebuilding team to me. I am impressed with the overall offense. Even the guys off to slow starts like Broxton and Arcia have shown signs of improvement lately. The defense is not great, Santana and Villar specifically are pretty awful. The pitching is just straight up bad and that is what I expected. Overall this month was a positive for the club. I thought they could be just downright awful and they have been close to league average. That is a decent sign for a team in full rebuild. At this point in the Cubs rebuild they were a 100 loss team just to give one example. Looks like we might avoid hitting rock bottom during ours.
  18. None of these guys should see the team in May, that would be a huge mistake. This team is not winning this year, you do not bring up prospects in May on a team that isn't built to win, it is just silly to do it. But yeah the pitching looked ugly going in and has been pretty bad so far. This shouldn't be a surprise. This is a playoff offense with a somewhat weak defense and awful pitching. You aren't fixing that this year, it is a problem you have to target next year and beyond.
  19. I'm not sure but what he did for the first month of this year was not for real, it was heavily BABIP influenced.
  20. My friend sent me this image. Thought it was funny.
  21. Well you can quote all kinds of people with hot starts that didn't keep it up, that is why I look at things like out of zone swing rate, swinging strikes, aEV etc. All of the underlying stats that becomes useful data way faster than the traditional stats look like the real deal. In a case like Trevor Story who hit 10 HR last April the background stats screamed fluke.
  22. The HRs won't keep up obviously but his approach at the plate is at an elite level. He hits the ball with authority. I think he is going to stay an all star caliber player even when he isn't hot anymore.
  23. Say what? So....6 WAR is worth $48 Million? Mike Trout is worth $80 Million a year? He would be worth more to a competitive team too. Sure nobody is going to pay him that much but you would also have to take into account aging curves and injury risk. You can't project Trout to keep doing what he is doing even next season much less 6+ seasons from now which is how long his contract will be.
  24. I do. And it's mostly because of Marcus Thames who played in the majors about 5 years ago. His name is pronounced as TIMMS. Yeah, that is the guy I always struggled to get wrong because it seemed so wrong.
