  1. 3 walks to 2 Ks in the past 2 games is a good sign.
  2. Nope. It is said exactly like it looks. The other pronunciation seems wrong even if it is more "popular".
  3. Now just 52 HRs shy of breaking the all-time single season non-PED aided HR record. Just 42 HR shy of breaking the all time I came here after dominating an Asian league HR record set by Cecil Fielder too.
  4. Not clicking on your link but I will answer the question so there is something useful here. It looks like his velocity is up slightly and that is after adjusting for the change in how pitch velocity is being calculated this year. He is throwing the four seam fastball less which is good as it has never been a good pitch, he is throwing the two seamer more which has been a pretty neutral pitch for him. His swinging strike% is up which suggests the increase in K% is somewhat for real. He is throwing more pitches in the zone and also getting more swings and misses out of it which is good. His hard contact against is down as well. There are tons of good signs in his pitching profile that suggests he is a better pitcher this year than last. He won't keep suppressing HR the way he has. He showed similar levels of skill for a couple of months in 2015 but was never this good in 2016. It is really hard to say if this is just a hot start or something more but he most likely will be better this year than he was last year.
  5. It looked like he was uncomfortable running the bases after his double. He was sort of wincing as he ran.
  6. He needs to learn how to lay off the high fastball and how to protect the outside corner with 2 strikes. They are just really big holes in his game. He watches that outside strike two or three times a night.
  7. Even if it worked, letting Garza bat there was just dumb. He looked gassed at the end of the last inning and is just coming off of an injury.
  8. To be fair Hanigers xAvg is like .240 this year. This looks more like a hot start than anything sustainable. He also retooled his swing completely so he isn't the same guy we traded.
  9. That inning looks like the players are thinking, yep, Cardinals beat us again. You can't let Leake off with that few pitches.
  10. Villar has 1420 PA as a major league player, he is established. His career OBP is .329 so that is probably the floor of what to expect given it was better each of the last 2 years. He is starting the year in a slump, this is normal April stuff happening all over the league.
  11. He's leading the league in two categories: AB and strikeouts and after drawing 79 walks last year, he has one more (5) than Hernan Perez (4) right now. 78 AB's is enough to be concerned even in April. But I'll go another 40 AB's and see if his recent slightly better stretch here continues. By the way, he still hasn't gotten a hit as a RH batter (0 for 20). Most damning is that of the 18 games he's started, he's fanned multiple times in 12 of them. I don't think even Chris Carter fanned 2 times or more in 2/3 of his games last year. It doesn't matter. Don't worry about April. Go look at last years april leaders in futility and all of the established guys turned it around. This is just what April is, guys struggle. Don't make more of it than it is. Last year in April Russel Martin hit .150 with 31 K in 67 PA. The next 4 months the Ks went back to normal and he hit .230, .262, .292 and .286 before slumping again in September. April is just a weird month for stats.
  12. You don't worry about baseball players in April. Mid May is the earliest.
  13. This might make sense if he weren't right handed. Just leave Brinson in the minors until mid season at which point either Braun will be traded, someone will get hurt or Broxton or Santana will have flamed out or could be trade targets. There is no reason to force him up and stunt everyone's value.
  14. I don't overreact to any struggles any player has in April. Been playing fantasy baseball way too long and seen way too many good and even great players who just can't find it early in April. I'm more worried about Broxton than Villar because Broxton has never been productive as long as Villar was last year. Maybe the Ks are back for Villar and he drops 20 points in average but more likely he is struggling and just trying to swing his way out of the slump when he should be trying to go deeper into counts.
  15. Sorry but I simply disagree. Bringing up Brinson and giving up on Santana or Broxton for this year would make me lose faith completely in the front office, it would be a terrible decision. You just killed the value of one player while limiting the value of another for no good reason. This is one of those situations where I disagree so strongly that I don't even understand suggesting it, it is an awful idea. Brinson comes up because we trade Braun or he comes up because it is half way through the season, he is raking in the minors and one of Santana or Broxton still looks lost.
  16. Okay then send Broxton down to AAA and let him re-earn a spot back on this team. I say this if he continues on the path he is currently on. That would be fine mid season if he can't get it together. But April is just way too early for this kind of thing. There are players hitting in the 100s all over the place because that is just how baseball works in April. There are 44 qualified hitters hitting under .200 right now. 16 of them are hitting .150 or lower. A big chunk of players just can't get their timing down early.
  17. Stick Broxton as a 4th OF ruins him. It is either start him or send him down or trade him. You can't develop playing part time.
  18. I pray they don't bring him up anytime soon. Give Santana and Broxton a chance to work through their issues. Why rush a guy in a year we aren't competing.
  19. I know he has passed the eye test for me at least. Digging into his deeper stats like exit velocity, contact rates, chase rate, barrels etc he passes all of those as well. He is basically Nolan Arrenado so far. Last year Neil Walker hit like 9 HR in April but none of the background stats said it was for real, that isn't the case here. I don't know if he can keep up the background stats, he certainly can't keep up the results. But this is a contract that easily could pay back all 3 years by the all star break and the rest is profit.
  20. Gonna lose 2 in a row we should have won. Just annoying.
  21. Stinks because you just know Schwarber is going deep. That is how this always seems to end.
  22. Royals rotation was pretty terrible the year they won the World Series. Last years indians rotation was nothing special since their ace was hurt. There is no such thing as looking like a playoff rotation. You can win in the playoffs a myriad of ways. Assume the Brewers rotation pitches to its career bests they would have a solid 1-2. You assume Hader is some sort of good number 3 and that one of the other guys actually steps up and you have a completely plausible playoff rotation. I doubt it happens but it is plausible. I don't know why we are talking playoffs this year anyway and if we are going for it next year we probably sign someone unless a couple guys break out. Guerra - 2.81 Peralta - 3.53 Hader - 3.50
  23. I'm imagine Braun is off because it is a day game after a night game with bad conditions. Seems like a perfect day for him to take off. I wish they had rested Broxton instead of Santana though.
  24. And he finally swings at the first pitch but Anderson throws him an off speed pitch and he misses it. Broxton looks hopeless right now.
