  1. You don't jerk around a young pitcher by bringing him up for 2 or 3 starts on erratic rest unless you think he is just a filler guy. Bringing up Lopez makes a no sense.
  2. We have scored more than we have given up. In the long run that usually leads to good things.
  3. Can't say I would want that on my sausage but if they are selling tacos now I'd want it on the taco.
  4. I've been watching whole game, why do you think that? BA and Rock are pretty good. Escpecially BA No stupid banter back and forth. Fairly even keeled call. Mainly the first thing though. I'd rather hear dead air than Brian and Bill's stupid conversations to fill air time. I'm not a huge fan of Brian and especially Bill but those Rockies announcers were pretty awful.
  5. If Wily is rubbed the wrong way by the truth he should just go out and prove that it is no longer the truth.
  6. What do you base such a claim on? Scooter Gennett would be a total joke at 3B on his noodle arm alone. Add in his range and we might as well sign Bartolo Colon to roam CF. An .881 Fielding Percentage at 3B for Mr Villar So a small sample size of one of the weakest fielding metrics that exists is your proof? I don't actually know the answer here but when you have to revert to partial season fielding percentage your argument is on extremely thin ice.
  7. Broxton looked totally lost in his two starts. I was thinking they might rest him a day to get his head together. Keep in mind we only have 2 days off in April. This isn't a normal stretch of games.
  8. Nice to have a switch hitting option off of the bench. He is more versatile than Scooter defensively. He was a better hitter than Scooter last year at least. It probably doesn't matter but he was a real prospect so maybe the Brewers see something in him the way they did with some of the other guys they grabbed last year.
  9. There is very little that is interesting about their offense. It is loaded with cast-offs from other teams we hope we can strike gold on. Most of them strikeout like it is what you are suppose to do. I don't get why people like this offense at all. Is it the fact we are throwing a bunch of darts at the wall and maybe we can add another Villar to it? Going into the season it looked like an average at best offense as a ceiling. Sorry but this is absurd. This is a fascinating and very dynamic offense that just strikes out too much. It won't surprise me if it is a top 5 offense in the NL this year, it is deep, talented and multifaceted. The issue with this team is the pitching which is just awful. Put this offense with a decent rotation and it is a playoff team. The defense is even good outside of Santana and Villar.
  10. He has looked good to me defensively. Last year his offense completely disappointed but he has looked much much better this spring/season so far.
  11. So this is a minor thing here but I am impressed that managers are finally starting to run their teams in a logical way. Ottanavio is the setup guy but was brought in for the 7th this game because it was the heart of the order. Last night the A's brought in their "closer" in the 8th to face Trout and Pujols and then their setup guy in the 9th for the save. The Cardinals brought in their closer to face the heart of the Cubs order in the 8th the first game even though they blew it by leaving him in too long in the 9th. We are seeing tons of shifts now obviously, probably too many of them. Platoons are a huge deal to start this year as they should be. A bunch of teams are hitting their best guys 2nd and their pitchers 9th. Hitters have started to heavily use launch angles to maximize their performance which is killing low ball pitchers and in response we are actually seeing pitchers start to go with high fast balls a lot more. The stats are actually driving the game instead of the old dinosaur thought that "this is how the game is supposed to be played". It is great to see a large part of the game actually played optimally.
  12. Pretty sure it was in the 5th inning that they did the double switch. They wanted the RP to get 2 innings since the starter left so early both games and I'm guessing Millone is going to start a game to bridge to Garza coming off of the DL.
  13. I believe Aguilar left in a double switch earlier in the game. Shaw moved to 1B and Perez took over at 3B.
  14. April is the least predictive month of the season. Yeah the team is showing some warts but it is hard to really make any concrete judgments from games this early. The pitching was never going to be good. We were always going to K a lot but maybe not this much. Villar's defense is a concern but that is why you build his value and trade him rather than extend him. Bullpens always take a bit to sort themselves out. I'm encouraged by Shaw for sure.
  15. You don't usually bring up someone you want to stick in the majors for just 1 random fill in start. It just messes up their routine. Single starts usually go to some low upside guy.
  16. That would be a colossal mistake. I'd rather sign someone who didn't make a team than waste clock time on Hader here.
  17. I've been on this site for a good 15 years and I can't say I've agreed with anything JB has said in that entire time, I don't agree with this either. Villar was a net positive this game even if his defensive play was very poor that inning. Bandy should have never tried to catch the guy stealing 2B so that is on the catcher. The failed double play was just a bobbled ball, that happens all the time in the IF.
  18. Really? He personally kind of seems like a piece of trash. I mean I like Braun and all with him being a Brewer but I'm not blind to the fact that I would probably despise him if he spent the last 10 years with another organization. I think you are blinded by fandom here. Yadier Molina is one of the most respected players in the game. I also think he isn't done yet. He has had a lot of injury issues the past couple of years but when he finally got healthy later in the year last year he was very productive. I think this is a bad deal for their team because it is clearly an overpay. I do think it is defensible if they can bring up the next C in their system and that guy can learn from Molina the next couple of years. I don't know if that player is in their system or not since I don't follow the minors all that much.
  19. You usually keep an extra pitcher early in the season since the starters don't go as deep. In our case specifically for some reason we play 23 games in 24 days which is just weird for the opening weeks. As the season goes on they can probably shift one pitcher to a hitter. To give you another teams example, the Cubs play 24 games all of April and start a day earlier than us, so they have 4 off days. We play 26 games and get 2 off days the full month. Not sure how that happens but it really puts us in a bad situation early in the season.
  20. Jungmann looked awful today, was missing any bats and was getting hit around.
  21. Anderson, Nelson and Arcia all look much better than they did last year. If those 3 can produce at a higher level it would definitely help us tease .500.
  22. I feel like we have too many bats for too few positions. Perez and Aguilar should be playing full time. Brinson probably should get a May call up but I hope he doesn't since there is nowhere to play. Nieuwenhius is an ok 4th OF and after that we have a number of guys in AAA that could probably do ok in the majors. Considering we are in the middle of a rebuild I'm shocked just how deep this major league positional roster is with real talent.
  23. I don't like keeping Aguilar on the team to be honest. He needs full time ABs and I just don't see how he is getting them at the majors. If this were a likely playoff team and him filling in with quality ABs could be the difference between the playoffs or not I would understand it. Now it just seems like limiting his upside by keeping him on the bench a bunch.
  24. There is no way Peralta is showing anything with that dreadful K/BB, it is just a lucky ERA mirage. The bullpen as a whole has been below average this spring and I don't have a ton of hope with this current crop of players. We will find some nuggets but in general it is a weak overall bullpen.
