  1. Phillips has 67 K in 203 PA in AA. He has to improve that one stat or he will never make it to the majors. Everything else looks ready but he cannot strike out that much. Reed is a bit more interesting. He is showing absolute elite ability to take walks in AAA but he is also striking out way too much. I have more faith in Reed than Phillips at this point.
  2. When grown men fight in normal society it is called assault and one man potentially goes to jail. Serving a minor suspension for it is nothing compared to normal society. They probably should just give them all like 30 game suspensions to knock the stupidity off.
  3. College stats don't directly correlate with pro stats. If they did, Rickie Weeks would have been a multiple MVP winner, which people still thought he would be when he was in the minors. Mike Schmidt played 2 years of college ball and had an OPS of .561 and .841. Paul Molitor's last year in college was a .907 OPS. You can find a lot of examples. Not like a .958 OPS is complete garbage or something, even if it is in college.
  4. Fair comparison, only he has real speed and Bradley never did. So add 20 steals or so to Bradley and you get a pretty fair comp. keep in mind the fact Jackie Bradley Jr. is a top 30 position player by WAR right now and was a 2.4 win player in half a season last year. You could do much worse. That is very clear all star performance.
  5. Of course there is a difference. It is the difference between your start being pushed off 1 day and being pushed off 4 days. A 6 day suspension is nothing at all for a pitcher, you just use the days off to swap the pitchers order and don't even miss a start by the end of the year most likely.
  6. I don't want to celebrate it, I just think it is unreasonable to completely blast it as a huge mistake with no chance of success. There is a middle ground between the two things.
  7. The Cubs got their ace for Scott Feldman and Steve Clevenger. The Pirates got near ace production on the FA market without paying a ton in Liriano. Aces can come from all kinds of weird places.
  8. Seems fair. Ventura actually has to miss a start that way.
  9. In a 162 game season his stats translate to.. 42 doubles, 39 HR, 91 BB, 114 SB. So just saying he hit 15 HR so that is his upside is a bit misleading. The 39K to 36 BB plate discipline is nice, the speed is obviously nice and the power between the doubles and home runs probably translates to more than 15 HR. I also see him listed at 6 feet on most sites. Current MLB players I've seen him compared to are Andrew McCutchen and Jason Heyward.
  10. Does this mean we are looking at 2018 being competitive? Seems like this is a player that will be ready fast which suggests the rebuild timeframe is faster than I thought.
  11. It is really hard to lose 100 games so I never felt this was one. You either have to go all in with a tanking rebuild or you need to have a number of pitchers just be awful.
  12. Just depends on how your were taught I think. I have a friend who writes and throws right handed but bats, hits golf balls etc all left handed. He's done it since he was like 3 years old so now doing it the other way just feels weird.
  13. Hader has never pitched over 125 innings in a season and is still walking 9% of the batters he faces. He has plenty of room to be stretched out and to get better command.
  14. The steroids Sosa aged players used are nothing like what is in use today. Those were muscle building steroids, these are recovery based. Dee Gordon did not build muscles with his steroid use, he was able to play at 100% efficiency for much longer than others. Today's steroids don't make you hit the ball farther, it makes you play the game at peak performance more often. Both of those things will result in more power.
  15. To be fair he was taking walks and his ABs looked good, plus he was actually hitting the ball hard instead of rolling everything weakly to 2B. He has looked like a completely different player since his injury and not in a good way.
  16. While I'm enjoying the winning I won't be too sad if we tank a bit through that stretch. I'd like a better draft pick than what we currently sit at~. 4 @ PHI is still not scary to me at all, I fully expect them to tank. The 21 games after that are all against playoff contenders though.
  17. The Cubs aren't going away but it won't surprise me if the Pirates window closes over te next 2 years. They don't have much in the minors and that rotation is not lasting much longer.
  18. Some of baseball rules are just awful at this point and the IBB is one of them. It is right up there with pitchers hitting as must get rid of. These are throwbacks to a completely different game that just isn't relevant at this point.
  19. There is a huge difference between a bat flip and an attitude inspired bat throw that could have hurt anyone on the other team that was outside of the batters box. Don't pretend Bautistas bat flip was just run of the mill here.
  20. No Hispanic coaches left after this. Then again most managers are ex players and Hispanic representation in the league 15-20ish? years ago was pretty low if memory serves.
  21. David Ross has a good but not amazing arm, stop running into outs.
  22. The two had nothing to do with each other imo.
  23. I bet every player in the league wants to do that to Bautista, he is such a thug. As for Harper, he came on the field after being ejected. That warrants a suspension regardless of what else he did. Also I'm loving that the Royals are off to a bad start~. They don't have much of a minor league system either so this might be a very small window for them.
  24. Going to the minors won't fix him, he just can't miss bats anymore. He didn't miss all that many even when he was throwing 95+ consistently and now his velocity is down as well. Hitters are hitting a whopping 94.6% of the pitches he gets in the strike zone and it is heavily skewed towards hard contact as well. Let him go to the pen and unload as hard as he can and see if that helps. Actually doing both might be the answer, put him in AAA and have him work as a RP and see if things improve. A lot of failed starters become good RP.
  25. Stealing 3rd in the bottom of the inning in a tie game with a runner on 2nd and 1 out is just piss poor managing no matter who is on 2nd. If it was a hit and run or run and hit which it really looked like it was that is even worse. Just bad coaching overall.
