  1. Do you have some kind of evidence that is what the Cubs are doing? Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, run differential is a pretty good indicator of talent. Agree to disagree I guess. To me it's a lazy way of evaluating a team's talent.
  2. Incredible that Zambrano's head hasn't exploded. Man, what a nut job.
  3. You're right. I'm convinced. 'Runs Scored' and 'Runs Against' have nothing to do with winning baseball games... You're right. I would rather win one game 10-0 and lose the next nine games 1-0. Hey, at least you still have a positive run differential.
  4. Man, I was down about the current developments, but after reading some of the crazy "the sky is falling" stuff on here, I feel a lot better now. Things are not THAT desperate. Thanks for helping put things in perspective guys.
  5. I vehemently disagree with that. The Cubs are currently +118 in run differential. The Brewers are only +22. That's a pretty substantial gap. Screw the run differential crap. There are only two or three position players on the Cubs that you might take over current Brewers position players (Ramirez, Soto, and maybe Fontenot). Rotations are a wash, and the Cubs have the edge in the bullpen.
  6. Every close call going in favor of the Cubs actually gave the Cubs the game tonight (and Torres I suppose).
  7. Let's get it done right now Dougie! Time to go for it! Escobar, Salome, and a pitching prospect (not named Jeffress) for Halladay. This deal makes sense for both teams, especially as it is looking more and more like the Blue Jays are shopping Halladay as he apparently wants out. The Blue Jays get a potential star SS of the future, and a solid hitting prospect whom if he can't hack it defensively at C, he can at least DH. The Brewers would be unstoppable the rest of the way with three ace quality pitchers. They also wouldn't be mortgaging their future. Halladay is signed through 2010, and Halladay, Gallardo, and Parra is still a very solid top of the rotation for the next two years. They sign Hardy to a long-term deal, and they still have Lucroy and Lawrie as C's of the future. On top of that they would have five first rounders next year with the departures of Sabathia and Sheets. It would be nice to keep Sheets if they could, but I think Sabathia will be far out of the Brewers' price range. Also what better advertisement to future FA's that the Brewers are a legit organization and are willing to make the necessary moves to be a consistent contender year in and year out. I will probably lay awake at night until the trade deadline passes thinking about how amazing such a development would be. Too good to be true right? Although, I think the Brewers have the ammunition to make it happen if they wanted to. Doug Melvin would go down as a legend if he got this done.
  8. Adenhart is way overrated. He has been mediocre to awful at any level above A ball.
  9. Why? At short he's Micheal Young, at 2B he's Mark Grudzielanik. That doesn't make any sense to me. So if you move Young to 2B, then he would be Grudzielanek, and if you move Grudzielanek to SS he would be Michael Young. Not to disrespect, but I guess I'm not buyin' it. I don't see Hardy's value changing much with a move to 2B.
  10. This may be a moot point if Roberts isn't available for any type of reasonable trade, but my question to those whom just want to "hang in there" with Weeks and hope he realizes his potential is this: Is it worth potentially sacrificing the opportunity at postseason play/being a W.S. contender in order to wait him out and see if he comes around? Which at this point is a legitimate concern, because at this point in time I cannot see how anyone could argue that the Brewers wouldn't have a better chance at making a run with Roberts at the top of the lineup as opposed to Weeks (although I'm sure someone will argue it). I guess the crux of the question is this: Is it worth going for it now, and MAYBE sacrifing having a better chance with Weeks at some point in the future?
  11. For real? I almost spit my coffee out when I read that. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. Call me crazy, but I think acquiring Roberts would help the Brewers even more than picking up Sabathia. This team so desperately needs that consistent table-setter at the top of the order. He would make an impact every game, whereas Sabathia is only every fifth day. Of course, once you get to the playoffs (if you do) Sabathia is huge (no pun intended). For some reason this move seems to fall into the "to good to be true" category, as I think Melvin/Yost want to hang on to Weeks for chemistry/potential reasons. Enough is enough though, it's time to make a run. C'mon Dougie pull the trigger. Please!
  13. Too bad we can't pull Mota now in favor of Turnbow.
  14. This team clearly does not have what it takes to compete in the NL Central. Melvin better figure what changes need to be made, and act quickly or the Sabathia acquisition will merely go down as a footnote in Brewers' history.
  15. I think the Dodgers could be a possible trading partner in dealing Suppan. Especially if they are unable to land one of the big guns in free agency. Suppan is from L.A. and I'm sure he would like to play there. I also think Suppan's abilities would be better served in a pitcher's park.
  16. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt Billy Beane would want anything to do with Billy Hall. He seems to be the anti-Oakland Athletic type player.
  17. Fielder will NOT be traded at any point during the season. That's a guarantee. I'm not saying that's the right move or the wrong move, but it's not going to happen. Melvin will be able to get much more for him in a trade in the offseason if he were to trade him. Now Sheets could be dealt during the season, but the Brewers will have to fall flat on their face for that to happen.
  18. Difelice will likely get sent down when Gagne comes back, but Choate won't be called up unless Stetter falls on his face again.
  19. The only way the Brewers include LaPorta, is if the Orioles include Wieters. And that's being objective.
  20. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/8225468/Fresh-relievers-will-be-in-demand-for-pennant-races?CMP=OTC-K9B140813162&ATT=3498 Edit: Name clarification. - Toby
  21. If you are going to trade Fielder to Arizona all talks should start with these three pitchers: Max Scherzer, Jarrod Parker, and Tony Pena. Then you throw someone like Jeffress in to offset some of the pitching loss for Arizona.
  22. I would be all for it. I firmly believe that Lincecum will be one of the best SP's in all of baseball for years to come. Fielder is a hefty price, but it would be worth it in my opinion. No pun intended with the use of the word "hefty" either. The nice thing about Lincecum is that his pitching mechanics are solid and should help to prevent future injuries (you're not looking at a Mark Prior type guy here).
  23. Can you say hijacked? This thread wasn't meant to be about Weeks.
  24. Would a trade involving Hall and Bush be able to land Stewart? Hall's OBP is just awful. Yeah, I know he hits HR's, but our lineup is full of those guys. If this last weekend is any indication, this team needs guys that make consistent contact and get on base. I think the current Brewers team will be very prone to cold spells with so many power hitting strikeout guys. The only way the Brewers make it to the playoffs and make noise in the playoffs is if they find themselves in a hot streak at the time. Just too much inconsistency with this current group. Also it will be nice adding Cameron to the mix, but he is also a power hitting strikeout guy. On another note: I also really like the idea of moving LaPorta for Clement. Would continue to improve the team for the immediate future, and really solidify all positions on the team.
  25. I agree Stewart's defense might be a question, but I wouldn't be concerned about a lack of power. Isn't a solid LH contact hitter what the Brewers' lineup needs? And yes Stewart will develop power. He hit 30 HR's in A ball a few years ago, so he must have decent power. I've also heard him compared to Chase Utley as a hitter, although that might be an overly optimistic comparison. Nonetheless the guy has talent, and is 25 years-old, so he doesn't need any further seasoning in the minors. As far as Helton's heir apparent at first, the Rockies also have Joe Koshansky in the minors (a decent LH bat in his own right), so I don't think it's a foregone conclusion that Atkins will move to first. Anyway, regardless of whether or not you would acutally make a deal for Stewart, I was hoping some of you would weigh in on what it might take to get Stewart. I'm guessing Hall and a prospect, but I'm not really sure.
