  1. jflick, I was up for the job. Did you just start this season? Because if so, it was down to you and me, so therefore I hate you! Just kidding. Sounded like a great job - hope you're enjoying it.
  2. Yay Kendall! And now that double steal looks brilliant.
  3. Is it wrong that I picture Beetle Bailey every time Uke says Homer Bailey's name?
  4. milwaukeebrewers.com/blockparty August 9 - Player Appearances: ELM GROVE (13600 Juneau Boulevard) Seth McClung Ray Durham Jeff Suppan Prince Fielder Rickie Weeks Mike Maddux CC Sabathia WHITEFISH BAY (Silver Spring Drive) Craig Counsell Ryan Braun Corey Hart Salomon Torres David Riske Ted Simmons Eric Gagne
  5. Does anyone have any idea what time would be early enough to show up for the Block Parties this week? The names are MUCH bigger than any of the one's I've been at in the past and I have no problem going early, but I don't want to sit there at 6 am if not necessary and I don't want to go so late that I don't get through the line and therefore it's fruitless. Any ideas? Is 8 am early enough? thoughts?
  6. Emailed a friend who lives in Brooklyn and got a diatribe in response: Union Pool and Barcade are definitely must-hits; other fun bars in Brooklyn (those two are in my hood, so I assume they're staying somewhere near me) include Black Rabbit, The Charleston (total divey place), The Gutter (actually a bowling alley but also a totally great bar with much beer), Crocodile Lounge and Alligator Lounge (free pizza with drinks), Daddy's. These are all in Brooklyn (where everything is a little more Bay Ridge-like). If you do go out in Manhattan, stay below 14th St and you'll be fine. The Manitoba is cool, Pianos is cool (note: not a piano bar), Art Bar is cool. If they really are staying near me, they MUST EAT at Fette Sau. So delicious. I'm not terribly up on the music scene, but The Music Hall of Williamsburg usually has good music acts, and McCarren Park has some free concerts that are usually indie rock-type stuff. Terminal 5 has been having some good stuff lately, but I haven't looked at the lineup in a while. Arlene's Grocery sometimes has good bands. Whatever you do, do not go to any bars above 14th St. The good ones are few and far between. Cake Shop, on the Lower East Side, sometimes has good bands. Other venues worth checking out: Knitting Factory, Mercury Lounge, Zipper Factory. Also, if you're in New York, you have to have brunch at least once. The Essex's is good, fairly reasonable and includes 3 drinks (but really they're kind of unlimited because they forget how many they gave you). The Brooklyn Brewery tour is supposed to be fun, also: free beer. Coney Island is totally awful AND great and I highly recommend it. Top of the Rock is probably not as cool as you think it is. Central Park is fun. Natural History Museum is SUPER FUN (if you are as huge a nerd as I am). Staten Island ferry is free, and you can look at the water.
  7. Not only was the "breaking news" on Mark A's house not news, but someone on here posted the listing to that house weeks ago. Not exactly cutting edge journalism Tom H has going there...
  8. Just an FYI - those tickets have been sparse for a couple of weeks already. It was one of the few series people could use the BP gas card discounts for.
  9. Don't fret too much. My SO went back to school a couple of years ago and transferred to UWM 2 years ago. He's 27 and often feels like he should be babysitting the other kids in his class. You're certainly not alone. Good luck!
  10. SeriesFinale The only thing that made me laugh that hard recently was the Prince/CC Onion article. Helen Keller indeed.
  11. "My whole goal was to reach an all star game so I could say that all I have done is hit and go to all star games at every level I have played at." Hart And also so that Yost can say "He's an All-Star" for the next 5-7 seasons...
  12. I'll third this sentiment and say that the quickest way for a relationship to fail is for one of you to be looking for the other person to make them happy. If you can't be yourself and you can't exist both separately and together, you have no chance. This person is supposed to complete your life, not take it over.
  13. I think we get the drunken "frat boy" type because they can afford it. Not to mention that half of them go to Marquette. But it's nearly impossible to get single game Wrigley tickets for face, so instead of sitting on the phone/interwebs all day when tickets go on sale to come up empty-handed, they buy for up here. Plus, never underestimate the novelty appeal of the tailgate.
  14. We BrewerFan.net ladies should get some sort of "crazy lady" assumption pass. We were smart enough to come here, right? (or is that an argument for our being crazy?)
  15. First thing first is that these scheduled players will absolutely change. That's the earliest I've seen them have the list out and even last time it was out about 48 hours ahead of time and they had guys on the list they had scheduled to be elsewhere. So make sure you check back the night before and even the morning of, as they change without notice. That being said, for guys like Prince, Braun and CC, I believe people will get there are early as the parks will let them. If they could sleep out, they would. Last year, Braun's line and JJ's line were down the block when I got there approx. 2 hours before they were scheduled to start. Earlier this season, we got there between 930 and 10 and got Sheets no problem. I went to two last year and two this year and I've gotten a total of about 15 sigs. I would absolutely suggest going in a group and splitting up amongst the lines if you want to get multiple guys. We usually have one person in one line, one person in another and a runner in between. They allow one thing per person, so all three of you can't get signed. I've taken my mother and she will work as the placeholder. I've also made friends with the people around me and that allows me to come and go without them trying to push the line. I've had very little to no bad experience with people at the block parties. They're not too obnoxiously territorial. The first time I went, the lady behind us held the spot and I allowed her son to go to our "other" line with me, thereby allowing us to get multiple sigs. Last year, they had 2 guys per table, which they're not doing this year. One guy per table really cuts down on how many you get. The last party I was at, the longest line was for Yovani. One of us stood in Branyan's line, the other stood in Kapler's line. As soon as we were done, we went to Villy's line and were able to get that, too. When a "bigger" name is there, people tend to all get in that line, so all the other guy's lines are much shorter. As people make it through the long line, they start peeling into the shorter lines. So just because one is short when they start signing doesn't mean it will stay that way. I've never gotten there more than 2-2.5 hours early and we've done pretty well. That being said, they've never had the kind of names in one spot like they do this time. I hope this helps. Feel free to message me if you have more questions.
  16. I hadn't heard any mention of Braun and a GG until last night's game when they said "Well, I guess that's why Braun won't be included in any Gold Glove talk"
  17. But that's one game out of how many? While I'm upset about the losing, I'm just more upset that we continue to give credence to all the "it's just the Brewers, they'll choke" talk.
  18. I have to defend and say that you all have your own "shade" of crazy, as well. That being said, no one wants to hook up with someone who is desperate, so going out "looking" is pretty much the least likely way to find someone. Especially when one tends to go looking at bars, parties, etc... It's ridiculously difficult to start a relationship with someone you meet that way. Remember that when you're looking to be in a relationship, you often try to force something that's not there. You meet/are attracted to someone, you want to be in a relationship, 1+1 and tada, right? My bf and I will be at 3 years in Sept. We actually went to high school together and knew each other peripherally. We both moved away and when we each moved home, a mutual friend hooked us up because neither of us knew anyone in the area anymore. I had just broken up with someone I dated for 4 years, my dad had passed away, and I had just uprooted my whole life to come home. A relationship was the last thing on my mind. But there it was. I'd just say relax - enjoy yourself. There are times when I talk to some of my single friends and I remember being young and dumb and crazy and know it's fun. Enjoy it while you can. There's nothing wrong with it.
  19. I get motion sick - not the about-to-lose-my-lunch sick - but more dizzy, disoriented, nauseated in my head sick. I can't watch movies with lots of quick camera shots/camera movement. I can't really be the passenger in a car. It's awful. Last time I went to Great America, I took Dramamine and I did ok. Not great, but ok. By the end of the day, the boyfriend was riding a few coasters again on his own. Good luck. Let us know if anything works!
  20. It's Ned that calls everybody "name-y". They talked about it earlier in the season and especially about guys like Kendall, who's names don't lend themselves to Ned's oh-so-clever nicknaming philosophy. As for the announcers, I think they're constantly trying to prove that they're "in" and therefore can call the guys by their nicknames. As in "Look, I'm hip, I'm cool, I call him Benny!"
  21. I can't stand how often we choke once we get the national spotlight. We all !@%+$ when we're the butt of a joke on SportsCenter or the last highlight on Baseball Tonight, but the fact of the matter is, any time someone outside the Midwest starts paying attention and we get nationally televised, we screw the pooch. It's SOOO frustrating. We're never going to get any cred/respect from anyone because of things like this series and the Boston series.
  22. Why is it that we seem to be so awful when we get the national spotlight? The past 2 games have been my worst nightmare in terms of perception. I hate that every time people start to pay attention to us, we throw it in the garbage. We're never going to get any respect if we can't step it up in these situations.
  23. I got so into reading what everyone else said, I forgot my rant... There are two houses on our lot and 4 apts total. They shut off someone else's cable on Saturday and "accidentally" shut ours off too. We've been without cable, internet or phone since Saturday afternoon. They just came out an hour ago to fix it and it took literally 3 minutes. I had to listen to last night's game on the radio. Plus, the lady who moved in upstairs is somehow related to the guy who already lived there - he's a traveling salesman and is almost never home. This woman moved in and never leaves the house. She walks like she's got on cement shoes, keeps the most ridiculous hours because she has no life, has woken me up with the volume on her TV at 3 am - yes, I heard it through the ceiling and it woke me up - and she's afraid of dogs - there are FIVE dogs that live in these 3 apts. She won't walk around them while they're on their tie outs. She bellows until we come outside and let the dogs in. And she's not even on the lease!!!
  24. The High Life guy's name is Wendell (sp?) and they kept saying he's a local. Now, during Sat's game he told all about how he got the job in LA, so I'm not sure, but every time Wendell's been at stuff (at least one Brewers game last year where he sang the National Anthem and a Packers game) they've called him a local. Also, the "watching your favorite pitcher get lit up" makes me mad because presumably they're talking the "home" pitcher and when he says that, all the people in the stands are on their feet and cheering. If the home pitcher were getting lit up, the fans wouldn't be so damned excited!
