  1. Remember, if you could pick your family.....they would be your friends!
  2. WOW....wait all winter and the one day I have to attend a seminar and I'm away from the computer all day this happens. I am really happy for Prince and his family and I am confident we enjoyed his best years. Upon coming here and reading that my initial thought was "that is the worst contract I have ever seen". Only time will tell, but I am very thankful Detroit, and not Milwaukee, is saddled with that one. Best of luck to Prince and the Tigers and I hope to see you in the World Series some day!
  3. I think I mentioned it earlier in this thread, but something gives me the feeling that now that Pujols has signed outside of the division I think the Brewers maybe more aggersive than most think. The KRod arbitration deal throws a wrench into it, but I have a feeling (nothing more than that) that Mark A. views this as a substantial opportunity to be very competitive within our division for a few years. Whether that means its Fielder (which I am not personally a fan of), ARam, or a big trade I just think they will do something to get another bat in the lineup.
  4. If the Crew were to sign Ramirez I personally would sign him to be our first baseman. He is not great at third as it is and has been somewhat "injury prone" over the past few years. I don't know if those injuries are a result of playing third or not but I think it is relatively safe to say it is a more physically demanding position than first. I think an ideal situation would be to sign Ramirez to play first, give Green the opportunity to play third and go with Hairston Jr. at SS. I would then use Gamel as a trade chip to see what he could bring.
  5. Love Shaun but there is no way I run him out there again should his spot come up. I think you give Estrada or even Narveson a look, but Marcum has nothing left at this point.
  6. The St. Louis Cardinals.......there not the Cubs??? Sorry that's all I got!
  7. That is just the News media being.....well....the News media. Every time they open their mouth they overblow the situation. You need to only look back a few days with the "east coast earthquake". I had Fox on and the female anchor was talking about the "breaking news" like the east coast got hit with a 9.0 and the devestation was going to be tremendous. Not making this political, but whatever side they happen to fall on, those on the other side might as well be the devil. Seriously, sometimes I think they would rather watch the country suffer and report on it than for the people on the other side of the aisle to get something right and praise them for it. It's not even really news anymore its "here's 20 seconds of what happened and let me tell you how you should think." It's almost embarrassing to watch.
  8. I will admit I don't know a ton about Fiers's stuff but I remember watching him pitch an inning during a televised spring training game either this spring or last and being pretty impressed. His numbers so far in AAA are extremely impressive...you have got to love 7 IP, 10 k's on 93 pitches??? That is pretty dominant. He is pounding the zone and his opponents are not hitting it. You have to be pretty excited about the kid!
  9. Alright I am going to talk myself into Rickie's injury being not that bad. You know when you watch football and the guy just looks like he blows out his entire knee but then comes back a week later....kind of the ones that look the worst aren't typically....that kind of thing. I don't think it was achillies related. They did nothing with the back of his leg and in my limited experience witnessing achillies injuries the people who suffer them are in horrendous pain. Rickie looked hurt but like he could tolerate it.....but then again the guy did get drilled in the face and come back one day later. Why does this poor kid have such poor luck....by all accounts he is the hardest worker on this team....he deserves some better luck. Oh yeah, and if Starlin Castro wouldn't be so bad defensively he wouldn't have had to go like that at the bag. That was a very routine play that Castro made difficult.
  10. Why does Loe continue to be used in situations like this. The guy flat out isn't that good. Can hawkins get a look once in a whle please
  11. If Prince wins he should donate it to his favority charity...Mark A! Tell him to put it towards an extension!
  12. I have to agree with those that don't agree with this one. So far I think the staff has performed pretty well. Wolf has been great, Gallardo pretty solid save 2 or 3 shaky outings (one against one of the best lineups ever put together), Narvy has been solid and Greinke is fine. The bullpen seems to be rounding into form and I expect better things going forward. Ax has been great save his first few appearances, Loe has had 3 bad appearances but has been pretty solid and Hawkins is looking good. With Saito hopefully back soon I think you will see improvement and hopefully Braddock is able to concur his deamons and get back with the big club.
  13. Mark Rogers being......well Mark Rogers. Maybe Helena will have a spot open in their rotation in a couple of weeks!
  14. Rickie in the 2-hole, in front of Braun and Fielder and with Morgan getting on base at a decent clip could be down right scary good. Think of the fastballs he would see. Pitcher distracted with Nyjer on first, and not wanting to put more baserunners on with Braun coming up....sounds like a winner to me!
  15. Is it me or does Rickie look thicker up top....not at all in a bad way, he just looks like he has been in the gym a lot. More broad across the shoulders and just bigger overall?
  16. Yeah that is really ridiculous. If anyone signs Prince for $200 million I sincerely hope it is the Cubs. He is a great bat, but there is no way he is worth $200 million. If you offer me Prince at $25 million or Gamel at league minimum and allow me to allocate that money to Weeks, Marcum, Greinke and where ever else, I am going with option 2 all day. Thanks for the memories Prince, its been fun! On a related note, and I hope I am wrong about this, but I think Prince will struggle this year trying to play for that contract.
  17. I like Garza and the Cubs are better for having him, but it will be very interesting to see how he and Zambrano coexist on the same team. Talk about two major head cases. Garza is an extreme hot head so it should make for an extremely interesting summer on the northside if nothing else!
  18. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that the Texas Rangers just signed a 20 year extension with Fox Sports South which is worth $3 Billion. That comes to $150,000,000 per year....which is mind blowing to me. I know they are a far larger market than the Brewers, but how does that compare to our current deal? Does anyone know the details of our deal? Edit: Clarified thread title --cc
  19. TwoBrewers, Just curious what you are basing the statement that Weeks doesn't have too many friends in the organization outside of Fielder. Yes, he and Prince go back a long way but the chances of them signing with the same team when they both reach FA is very remote. I highly doubt that even enters into the equation. From everything that has been said, Rickie is one of the most respected players on the team by his fellow teammates due to his hard work and quiet leadership. I am not sure how you can say something like that without backing it up. Maybe the guy simply wants to finish the last 3-4 weeks of the season before concentrating on his future. He has had a really good year and I can't argue with him for wanting to remain focused on finishing it strong.
  20. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that Hawpe will be released following the conclusion of the Rockies game tonight. Does any one else feel as though he would make for a solid replacement for Prince in 2011? I know Hawpe is having a terrible year this year, probably mostly attributable to injuries throughout the year, but he is a solid left handed producer. Honestly how much worse with the glove could he honestly be than Fielder? I would be very interested in him if I were Melvin.

  22. I played Erin Hills two years ago and it is a great golf course. It is truly a course that was built to host a US Open. For those of you haven't played, think US Open meets British Open and that kind of gives you an idea to the layout and course design. I really loved the design and from the 7,000 yard tees (can't remember the exact yardage) the course is really a test. Knowing what the ultimate goal of the course's design was (to host major championships) I came away from the experience really concerned that they would ever be able to get the course in good enough condition to hold those types of events. Due to the mounding of many of the fairways, the trees and the odd drainage of the course the fairways had to have been a nightmare to maintain. I guess the major renovations that they just undertook have addressed many of those issues so I am eager to play the course again. Very exciting for SE Wisconsin and I am sure the state will do a great job in hosting the event!
  23. And now Jim Joyce takes away a piece of baseball immortality from Armando Gallaraga from Detroit on a play that wasn't really that close. If you didn't see it Gallaraga had a perfect game through 8 2/3 and Donald (Cleveland SS) hit a ball to Cabera's right at first base. Cabrera ranged far to his right and threw a pee to Gallaraga covering first base. They got him by a good half step and Joyce called him safe. Now I realize that a play like that is pretty "bang-bang" but in that situation if it is close do you not have to give the nod to the pitcher on the verge of being the 21st pitcher in MLB history to throw a perfect game? And on top of that it wasn't close. If you and I were there it would have been close, but a guy who has been in the league as long as Joyce should be able to see 1/2 step pretty clearly.
