oh boy ... he has figured something out. here we come.

It's an odd thing to think about now given the plethora now but the Brewers still might be in the market for another arm at some point. Civale, Myers, Quintana, Woodruff, Cortes, Ashby, Hall, Gasser* all coming off of injuries. Then you have to assume there is an innings restriction to varying degrees on the rest of Patrick, Henderson, Mis, Carlos (IL), Hall, Gasser*, possibly Priester and Ashby as well. Right now it seems we have about a dozen arms at our disposal but when it is Oct 1st how many will we have left? I'm not sure how many of the young guys will be available to us. We truly only have one starter who doesn't fall into the 'hurt' or 'limited' category... it wouldn't shock me in the least if we grab a vet along the Wade Miley lines and send him to Nashville with the vision of how he could be needed later.

If both Urias and the Brewers SS/3B situation finish the season the way they started it ... acquiring Urias in the next month would add 1-2 WAR to the roster. Whether that gets us in the playoffs or not, who knows. Hopefully Durbin has discovered something and Ortiz finds anything and this convo is for nought.

Just for clarities' sake... are we talking about a foul ball vs a swing and a miss? So if the count is 0-0 would the pitcher rather a batter swing and miss or foul it off? -
In another thread someone scoffed at the thought of acquiring Luis Urias (or someone like him) because (paraphrase) "he isn't a needle mover and we aren't winning it all this year". There is a lot that goes into deadline deals and when and why to pull the trigger, but your line "as young players grow & learn “how to win” in the big leagues" is amongst the reasons why a minor upgrade at any position, this season specifically, can be crucial. I don't think we are winning it this year as well but we need our young guys to play as many games as possible when the season is on the line. Need stressful at bats. If a minor upgrade doesn't cost us much but it allows us to stay in the playoff race all the way until October ... that will help next year's team. That's a good deal to make. Of course, you balance that thought with the other which is moving assets you know you won't have next year for assets that could help beyond this year ... it's a tough puzzle to build.

If this is accurate then the above "sitting 90, touching 92" would make sense. The scoreboard was 88-90 all game.

Z only threw a few pitches yesterday. Would think he is ok to go.

Brewers did a great job clearing the pitcher's spot in the order that inning. Will have top of the order to end it!

I just left during the rain delay... The fastest pitch read I saw on the scoreboard from Woodruff was 90 all day. Nothing higher that I saw. His first two innings he was sitting 87 -89 and then the remainder of the game. He was sitting 88-90. Of course, this was just the scoreboard reporting so not sure if that is official or not.

A very light rain started to fall here in the 4th and Woodruff just gave up a leadoff single, his first hit allowed. He picked him off though.

I'm here. Woodruff sitting 88-89 on the scoreboard. I've seen 90 twice. Off speed 79-80.

There are a lot of reasons why making a minimal upgrade any position in a season like this would be very beneficial to the Brewers both for this year and moving forward ... none of which have anything to do with making a deep playoff run.

This is a great find, I forgot about Urias. He wouldn't cost much either. What is Ortiz' options look like? I wouldn't mind him getting a full August of at bats down in a Nashville to just swing through his issues and then come back for the stretch run if ready.

Man, a couple more Durbin and Ortiz hits and our entire lineup will be above .200 - we are living in luxury my friends.
