    Civale is a replacement level pitcher+ who was already on the IL once this year. Clement was a 3.5 WAR player last year and is on pace to beat that this year. The Brewers would have to add Boeve to the deal to get Clement and probably also send along some money to cover the difference in salaries :(

    My issue is dealing Patrick specifically for "Jerry Hairston". You will likely make our team worse if you traded Patrick for a league average SS right now. The WAR gained going from Ortiz to "Hairston" for the rest of the year(1 WAR added?) would be likely offset or worse by going from Patrick -> replacement in the rotation. So in all likelihood that move is net neutral overall to the team or best case scenario we add 1 win? 2 wins? So we bump from an 82 win team to an 84 win team and have to face the Padres in the wild card regardless? All the while losing half a decade of the top rookie pitcher this year in the NL.

    This is really funny. Hitting/pitching is so different today than during the Kennedy administration. "Read the seams". Paul Skenes would strike out 600 hitters if he pitched in the 70s.

    You started this thread saying we need to flip a starter for a 3b "for the playoff run" which implies you want someone who will be better than that we have, i.e. a major league ready infielder. Who exactly do you think we would get for Chad Patrick that would propel us into the "contender" category and is worth giving up a guy who is currently a consensus top 3 rookie of the year candidate (who has been our best/2nd best pitcher and could be a staple in the rotation for the next half decade)? This doesn't make any practical sense. We are not a 3b away from beating any of the top 3 teams in the NL, even less so if we give away our most productive starter, respectfully.

    We aren't going to get much back for Civale I don't believe. Last year we gave up Barrios to get him and Civale had a year of control. I think his value has decreased since then. I don't think Barrios was a top 20 prospect for us at the time. Can't imagine we could get a major league player in return, much less one who has value.

    I don't think you do unless you get a great offer, but with the fickle nature of relievers and Megill's unconventional ascension into the closer's role, the Brewers were able to "create" a reliever with closer value out of thin air with him and as we watched with Payamps this year ... he could lose all of his value in 6 weeks time if things go south. Always a guessing game, as he could be a great reliever for a million more years ... but in my very uneducated opinion he feels like a guy who is at peak value right now ... and if the Brewers can get a top 100 guy for him ... gosh I'd have a hard time saying no.

    Seigler is super interesting. Former 1st Rd pick. Is there any other intel on why he is "fixed" or of it truly just a change of scenery situation? Having a switch hitting middle infielder to move around the batting order would tickle Murphy to no end..

    The radio guys were all over this one as well. Mentioned a few different times before the at-bat happened. It was an interesting move and then Machado hit it out.. I'm sure Murphy will have to answer for that one after the game if we lose.

    I'm not necessarily wanting to deal him obviously.. but I'm just pondering. Couple questions for you all who follow values closer than myself... What will his arbitration number look like after a full season as the closer? What would he bring back in terms of value at the trade deadline? Do we trust Ashby, Mis(?!), and Uribe to finish games if we were to deal him?

    Chad Patrick has the highest WAR of any Brewers player. Turang and Frelick are tied, if that is a metric you follow at all.

    There is looking good and then there is making the other team look like goofballs. He struck out the side last night with 13 pitches, The Padres only fouled off two of them in that sequence. He hasn't done that before. Yesterday he looked like Billy Wagner.

    I realize this can be taken a few different ways but according to Fangraphs WAR numbers... Isaac Collins has been our 6th most valuable position player this season and he isn't terribly far behind the next few guys ahead of him ... in about half the at bats.

    That was as filthy as we've ever seen Ashby I think. 99 with movement and that curve/off speed? Holy buckets.

    I definitely don't think Sal is making it... I was more or less saying he exemplifies this year's team better than the others so I'd like him to represent us if I had the choice.

    If I had to pick someone both based on earning the spot but also representing this specific Brewers team... I am sending Sal Frelick to represent us. If I had to place a bet on it, I think Peralta will be the one who goes.

    Contreras is hitting .333 with runners in scoring position this year (19-57). https://www.espn.com/mlb/player/splits/_/id/39895/william-contreras We need to get on base ahead of him more so than we need someone else hitting in his spot. Chourio and Yelich's OBP (along with his drop off in XBH, granted) are the issue if we are talking about RBI opportunities for Contreras.

    The only reason salary needs to be mentioned is if you are hoping to trade him this year so getting him good MLB reps is of the essence. If you think we are keeping him for the year then his salary has nothing to do with whether or not he is ready and can help us at the MLB level.
