  1. My prediction is they trade for Dozier to play 2B, and Arcia comes back up to play SS. Saladino can slide into a utility role. Miller can slide into oblivion for all I care. He's horrible. Ha, that's great! I actually like Miller in a backup role. I hope to see Villar as the odd guy out; he and Perez are about the offensive equivalent but Perez is the more versatile of the two (and typically doesn't make dumb outs on the bases) I too would just put Arcia back at SS. His defense makes the team better, despite the offensive struggles. And yes, Dozier would be a solid upgrade. Whoever the Brewers acquire, I think many of us are going to be upset on what they give up. There's competition for all these guys and teams aren't selling legit solid players for organizational filler type talent.
  2. I was good standing pat last season. This is a different club. Maybe in the American League, I'd stand, but this is a really good team when healthy. The bullpen is very good and you have a prime: Yelich, Cain, Shaw, Thames and Aguilar. I'd really like to see Arcia back at short. I don't really care if he doesn't hit; his defense can be that much of a difference maker. I think if you add some significant but not farm destroying moves could really push this team over the top.
  3. DeGrom is a game changer. If the Mets would take Peralta and Hiura +, count me in. I don't know what the + would be but he's one of the few players where if I'm Stearns I open the prospect book and say "Choose"! He's also controllable which is a super big deal. If something goes wrong and the Brewers need to sell after this season, you can recover some of what you gave. Also a long shot, but an extension could maaaybee be had.
  4. I think it depends what you qualify as a major move. I think they will make some moves in the next week. If they miss the playoffs after those moves, yes I still give the guy time. I have no problem not getting Machado for the cost. I DO think this is a playoff team when fully healthy, so yes I still do have high expectations this year going forward. He did get value back for Segura. Gennett didn't fit the direction; so I'm not giving him a pass but he's made up for the loss with guys like Aguilar. If there's one non-move I was shocked at, it was the inability to move Braun before the 10-5 thing kicked it. To me that was a mistake. Honestly, other than that I think Stearns has done a great job to this point. He's not beyond criticism but when I look around the league I feel like the Brewers are in a way better situation than most organizations. He's flipped the script very quickly; the route isn't the same as the say the Astros or Cubs as they bottomed out to get better. So he's going to have to go about things differently than what we're used to seeing lately.
  5. Dang, I was hoping the Brewers would make a play at Hand. Seems like a fair deal on both ends.
  6. I couldn't have said things any better. It is however, a good example (again) to people that what you put on social media/internet is there forever. You could roast every single person for things they've said when they were a teenager. No exceptions. This is a non-issue, imo.
  7. My feeling as well. I think the whole front office purposely leaked valid/exaggerated/false information to the media to create a sense of urgency by the other teams just seams like something dreamed up on fan boards. There's only 30 MLB GMs and I have to believe that for the most part they know each other somewhat well or at least have an open direct line of communication if they want. Not saying there's not some gamesmanship that goes on but the extent that it gets brought up and discussed seems a bit much to me. But really, I have no idea. Maybe somebody who's worked closely to a MLB front office can chime in.
  8. Nicely said. You're list is spot on. The collapse of Santana is mystifying. I'm not sure the collapse of Santana is super mystifying. I really believe this time it's a human reaction sort of thing other than a collapse of skill. He was on the trade block (publicly or not after acquiring Yelich and Cain.), essentially being thrown aside after a breakout season. After not raking the first month they pretty much put him in the back of their plans. I'm not saying the decision was wrong but from a humanistic perspective I can certainly see how the mental side of things might be getting to him. As far as Ray, he certainly appears to have righted the ship. I agree, not a throw-in at this point. I don't think he was too far off though. If he had repeated last season you'd really have to start questioning his future... thankfully that's not the case
  9. ...oh good, baseball to football references, based on a deal that hasn't happened yet.... good grief. Whatever happens with Machado so-be-it. He's a great player and would certainly help. I do believe this team is ready. I also believe in the Brewers ownership and GM more than I have in the last 30 years so I'm confident there's moves coming. Not sure on the final results but that's what makes it entertaining.
  10. If Miley goes 4, I'd consider that the best case scenario. Going to have to pile on some runs. Side note: How does Alec Asher make it to an MLB roster?
  11. The bullpen performed admirably. The offense squandered their chance in extras when the top of the lineup couldn't push one across. Tough to win when your starter doesn't make it out of the 4th. I do agree with most everyone. You take a shot at your final position player at least making contact and getting lucky. There's never "nobody" else available. Somebody else can throw for goodness sake. Not saying the outcome would've been different but you really need to exhaust all your options. Better days to com.
  12. It's 8-0. I'd hope so. Yeah, at some point you might think they'd just start holding him out of games. I know there's a bit of an integrity thing to put your best guys on the field, but if you're trading him anyway you'd sure hate to see your biggest trade chip take one off the wrist or something and end his season. Yes, percentages are small but ....
  13. IF there's a Baltimore scout at the game it's to watch Peralta and maaaybe Nottingham. Machado isn't coming here for Thames, Broxton, etc. They've supposedly already targeted Burns so not sure you need to send a scout to see a guy you already know you like who probably won't pitch today
  14. I wouldn't give up Burnes. I really like Woodruff and would have a hard time giving him up as well but I think I could stomach deal including Woodruff and Phillips. I do understand people's reluctantly to part with our farm depth as you hate to sell the future for a rental who 'might' not get them there. I think it really comes down to how you grade out this team. If you think they are legit, which I do, then you really have to consider making a strong play at the guy. He's an offensive difference maker, not just an upgrade. The future that we've all waited so long for could be here now. This is a really good team when healthy. They kind of remind me of the Royals a few years back when nobody really thought they were as good as their record and they ended up in back to back WS, getting their championship. They can beat you in a lot of different ways. Their starting pitching still feels like it's overachieving; but they have power and speed on offense, play good defense, have a very good bullpen, and are super versatile. I'd still prefer a game changer at starting pitcher but it could very well end up being Machado is the biggest game changer available this deadline. This team is good enough in my mind that I don't want to wonder "What If" they had given up a bit more. It's time. Dream big my friends.
  15. It sucks to lose one that you feel like is locked up, but that's how good this bullpen has been. Hasn't been too often where they lose a lead late. Just have to throw this one out and get them tomorrow. Yes, cliche I know but I'll take the Brewers problems over just about all the other teams in the NL.
  16. Wow, it'd be agonizing to watch a game with some of you. Yup, it's the managers fault. The other team is getting paid too you know. I mean I guess Hader should've gone the rest of the season without giving up a run. So, if he "get's some work in" a couple days ago and then can't go the following day in a close game with a lead then who's fault is that?
  17. He was a popular name in the off season and at the deadline last season. I'd like him more than some of the starters names thrown out in recent rumors. I'd give up Hiura + for him; I'm sure the cost is still large. If you believe this is a playoff team when healthy then Hand could absolutely be a playoff difference maker. I know that's really getting ahead of things but I do believe this to be a team that is going to make the playoffs. I like the position player mix and don't really think there's much that can be had that would be a great improvement outside of Machado. The Mets seem to be backing off selling DeGrom/Syndergaard and I'm not really enamored with Happ or Stroman as an actual improvement. As of now, Hand is the guy I'm willing to part with significant pieces for.
  18. Yeah, forget Manny if that's true. The Orioles are pretty stupid not to take that. It's impossible to say with any certainty how true any reports are, but yes, if that's true Baltimore is crazy. Good luck to them I guess.
  19. According to Jim Bowden, Verdugo and Yadi Alvarez aren't enough: ....Former MLB executive Jim Bowden opined that Machado would be a great fit for the Dodgers, but revealed that the club’s current offer of Yadier Alvarez and Alex Verdugo wouldn’t be enough to entice the Orioles, via CBS Sports: “To get that bat to go with Muncy in the middle of the diamond would be great, but their offer of Verdugo and Alvarez, I’m told, is not even close to enough to get Machado,” Bowden said. https://dodgerblue.com/dodgers-trade-rumors-yadier-alvarez-alex-verdugo-not-enough-to-acquire-orioles-manny-machado/2018/07/05/
  20. The Mets back to their typical games I see. I'd be hard pressed to trade either if I was them too. Just move on then; focus on teams that are motivated to move guys.
  21. I can only answer on a purely emotional level. As a Brewer's fan that was one of the greatest seasons that I've had the opportunity to witness. 10 years of Michael Brantley can't touch being able to take my dad to the first playoff game in Milwaukee in over 25 years. Even having started the series down 0-2, it was so electric in the park! Something I'll never forget. But yes, you don't want to make a habit out of trading for rentals. There's exceptions for every circumstance. I think this year's team has a real chance so I'm again ready to make a bold move.
  22. Yikes... probably need to score a dozen to win this one
  23. There seems to be quite a few assumptions being made that Shaw is playing hurt. It wouldn't be the first time a player slumped for a month. At this point in the season I have to imagine very few players are feeling 100% healthy. If the guy says he can play and the medical staff clears it, who are we to sit here and debate whether he should be on the DL or not? Even if he's pushing through a bit to keep playing, I'd much rather have a player on that end of the spectrum than the opposite.
