  1. Manny finally hit the glove a couple times in the Blake AB. Keep it up!
  2. Why on earth would they want to move JJ from a position he excels to a position where they've got two guys outproducing him and a third waiting in the wings at AAA? He's a top-flight defensive SS - he's worth more on the trade market this offseason than at 3B for the Brewers.
  3. Mike signed for 7 mil before last season and now he's worth almost 15 mil? How has his value doubled in his tenure with the Brewers? I love the guy, but 15 mil? No way...
  4. Wow, this Burke guy makes Claudio Vargas look like Ben Sheets...throw the ball already.
  5. You're unwilling to accept the simple fact that right now everyone wants to strengthen their rotation right now and the Brewers are maybe the team with the most dire need. Every team in the league knows this. You shouldn't buy when the price and demand is at its highest. This is a case of horrendous timing in many different ways. Doug Melvin is absolutely stuck here, and that's not to say that it isn't his fault - it's just saying that he's in a no-win situation. I'm still holding out hope for a Bannister or Guthrie, but starting pitching's value is at an absolute high and a small to mid-market team cannot continually get it this time of year. Their prices are probably way too high as well. The injuries to Dave Bush (don't forget Chris Capuano, who was good in comparison to what we've got now) and the inconsistency of Manny Parra, a guy who the Brewers had a lot of faith in coming into the season has hurt the Brewers to a point where they're in serious trouble. They need to get Bush (and Suppan) back and hope other parts of the team pick up the slack. If you really think that Doug Melvin could've had a serviceable SP for "a couple AA guys" and didn't do it "for whatever reason" no one's going to take you seriously.
  6. Buccholz is almost untouchable, it's a pipedream to think they'll land him for JJ. If feel like the only player that isn't underachieving that they could conceivably sell is Hoffman. Maybe the Rays?
  7. I'm upset about the players all sliding into the free-fall mode together and playing baseball that's so far below what they're capable of. Place all the blame on Doug Melvin if you'd like, but they're playing worse than anyone could've possibly expected. I'm not talking overall record here - I'm talking about this post-all-star-break period. Something else is going on that we're not seeing on the field - whether it's coaching, managing, clubhouse chemistry, etc. They're playing so far below their ceiling it's unbelievable. Don't the good coaches get the most out of their players?
  8. Hate to be an echo, but Gamel/Salome's absence has me nervous...any explanation?
  9. I can't remember a time when the Brewers have discouraged me more...wow.
  10. Geez, these bloggers and writers are in a different universe if they think Washburn/Morrow is fair value for Alcides Escobar. Maybe I'm just drinking Doug Melvin's kool-aid here, but Escobar is a top 10-20 prospect in the entire league, isn't he? That's a ridiculous asking price to me for a guy who will make a few starts in 2009 and a 25 year old who isn't a sure-fire success at the ML level (as a starter, he did pretty well as a reliever). If they're willing to part with Escobar they'll be trying to get a much bigger fish than Jarrod Washburn. I have to believe that.
  11. I'm not loving this idea, but it's probably the best the Brewers can do at this point. They sure better get more than Washburn in return for Hardy. I like the Washburn + Morrow idea, but that's unrealistic. Seattle's always been the likely trade partner, but with Bedard out of the question I'm much more interested in what it would take to get Brandon Morrow. Washburn doesn't excite me, though as others have said it isn't impossible for him to continue his success.
  12. I like that the Brewers are in pursuit, but I guess I don't really get the point if Parra's included. Halladay/Yo is obviously a better 1-2 than Yo/Parra, but Manny has looked awfully good in his last couple starts and I'm not sure Halladay is so much of an improvement that it justifies trading away multiple MLB-ready top prospects. Either way, like others have said, we're waiting on a healthy Dave Bush. Am I overrating Manny Parra's potential? I'd prefer a package centered around Gamel, Lawrie, and maybe even Salome if necessary. McGehee is looking more and more like a legitimate starter at 3B when healthy, and though not a star, can at least fill in respectably until we know what Taylor Green can do. But really - I don't think standing pat at the deadline is such a terrible idea. Opening holes for Gamel or Escobar comes a lot easier in the offseason.
  13. Wisconsin people don't watch TV. We're all eating cheese and getting hammered.
  14. For what it's worth - and I'm not all that excited about it - apparently the Brewers scouted Cliff Lee today. I guess they're doing their homework, right?
  15. Braden kept the ball in the yard tonight. He did exactly what everyone was hoping he'd do. Pretty boring win. I LOVE boring wins.
  16. He pointed his finger almost horizontally inside and slapped his left thigh repeatedly. Great pitch by Smith, right on the elbow. Interesting start for Lopez. Great at the plate, but spacy on the basepaths and infield. Pretty much what we expected. Ryan Braun likes Jesse Chavez, apparently.
  17. I wish I could say what Jeff Karstens is without getting in trouble with the mods...good for Jason, teach that kid a lesson.
  18. I'd weep tears of joy if the Jays took just Hardy and Lawrie for Halladay.
  19. Well, in that case...SHHHH!
  20. Notice they said JJ Hardy could be available "in the right deal". Would the Brewers really prefer to have Escobar at SS right now despite already seemingly establishing themselves as buyers?
