  1. That 2004 year had some great performances I thought Randy Johnson had a better year than Sheets did and the Cy Young voting that year for the NL should have been Johnson winning with Sheets coming in at a close 2nd but the voters at that time were still into the wins mean everything for a starting pitcher. The year Johnson and Sheets had in 2004 is very comparable to what Pedro Martinez did in 2000. While Pedro's was more impressive that year Sheets and Johnson almost had a year like that and neither won the Cy Young that year. Also looking back at the 2004 roster the 3 best players (not including Branyan as he only had 182 PA) were Junior Spivey, Lyle Overbay, and Geoff Jenkins. Spivey actually had a good year offensively in 2004 with an OPS+ of 101 while Overbay lead the Brewers with an OPS+ of 122 and Jenkins only had a OPS+ of 103 which was just under Brady Clark's OPS+ of 104! Yeah that team was awful offensively that year but during Ben Sheets starts the Brewers did average around 4.67 RS for the year. If I am remembering correctly though Sheets did lose a lot of tough losses and in 2004 Ben Sheets had 9 tough losses while Randy Johnson had 11!
  2. Good thing you are not the GM because we would then be moving more towards the 90's era Brewers teams if you were. Yuck.
  3. From the Dodgers that I really like are Joc Pederson, Angelo Songco, and Chris Reed. If the Dodgers were to give up Gould for Carlos Lee I wonder if they would include him in a deal for Ramirez. If the Brewers could get Gould and Pederson for Ramirez that would be a very good haul for Ramirez. A nice starting pitcher and a toolsy OF would be a rather good return for Ramirez.
  4. I like Halestorm better but they are more metal/hard rock than Dead Sara plus Lzzy Hale has a better voice in my opinion.
  5. No Ramirez does not have less value than Green does and $30m buys you exactly Ramirez in the free agent market. Are you talking out of your rear or do you know something that hasn't been reported about Upton? I have heard absolutely nothing like what you are claiming so I am going to with this being an outright lie as there is no evidence that supports your claim of Upton being a clubhouse cancer. Upton is definitely not a Gary Sheffield type. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/06/kendrick-expects-more-consistency-from-upton.html http://www.hardballchat.com/2012/07/could-diamondbacks-trade-justin-upton-following-boos-and-team-struggles/ There have been talks about his effort and attitude since he played in the midwest league. I was literally sitting outside the South Bend dugout in Beloit when Upton was in a verbal altercation with one of his coaches, because he didn't think he should be playing there. There is a reason Brewers fans have stuck by Braun through all his public adversity and there are reasons the fans are constantly on Upton in Arizona. That doesn't mean he is a bad teammate, but just like his brother B.J. there have always been questions about his make-up. I don't know if all of them are warranted but they are out there. I mean if you were that good as early as he was you would probably be that cocky too. Why else would a 24 year old superstar given comps as highly as Ken Griffey JR be on the market? He is a tremendous talent no doubt but there are also reasons he is on the market. There is a reason he is on the market and it is because the Dbacks want to get more talent on their team and it has absolutely nothing to do with him being a clubhouse cancer or anything of that nature Bonds was a clubhouse cancer. If Bonds was put on the market for a trade back then I highly doubt it would be because he was a clubhouse cancer the reason he would be put on the market is because he is an asset. The team is going to sell an asset if they believe it is going to bring more assets back in return. Teams hardly ever trade a player away because they are a clubhouse cancer. Going off of the vibe that the Dbacks manager thinks of Upton lack of effort and attitude is not something he would say about Upton. Given that Gibson is rather outspoken and doesn't really care about a players feelings he would come out and say it if he wasn't giving it his all or had an attitude problem. The last thing I will make a judgement on a players level of effort or attitude is what a fan thinks as they only see about 1/4 of what is going on. Most fans are completely irrational in terms of evaluating a player and will normally go to one extreme or another when looking at a player and make a decision. I am willing to bet that you will find differing fan opinions about Upton to him having no effort at all to him giving it all every game. The links that you have provided actually go against what you are saying. You can even take Weeks for example there have been fans who have questioned his work ethic all the way through his career with the Brewers. Does this mean that Weeks if he were on the trading block right now would be there for a reason because he has questions on his effort from some fans?

  7. If Bourjos was a pitcher I would agree. The only way Bourjos would be coming back is if Melvin also traded one of (or both) Morgan or Gomez. If I were looking at trading with the Angels I would want Segura, Richards, and Luis Jimenez. Not the greatest trade but a lot of good talent coming the Brewers way though. The only thing that scares me is that I don't believe Segura is going to make it as a SS. If the scouts say he can't make it as a SS I would seriously look elsewhere as the Angles really don't have much that the Brewers would need or want really.
  8. Not to derail this thread any further but the Royals are an organization that has some nice young talent. Not all of the players will reach their talent though. Some might take longer to develop. I do expect to see Marcum on the Royals next year though. I have him pegged as their #1 target in free agency.
  9. This is my favorite All Star game the game was actually rather good minus the ending of the game.
  10. Why wouldn't the Brewers trade for Upton? The Brewers have depth at OF but they do not have anyone that is as good as Upton is. If the Brewers traded for Upton I wouldn't be all that upset as he is an elite player. If the Brewers could extend Upton even further having an OF next year of Braun, Schafer/Gomez, and Upton would probably be the best OF in all of baseball. Offensively the Brewers would also be set for a long time with Upton and Braun in the lineup meaning the Brewers could easily trade Hart and they wouldn't miss all that much. To be honest though the Brewers do not have enough to get Upton even with possibly trading away what they could get in a Greinke deal to the Dbacks. It would take Profar, Olt, and another player for the Dbacks to even seriously think about trading Upton.
  11. Well there is reality and then there is a perceived reality. People will come on here and just like the FALSE rumors of Hart for Cain keep on repeating them like they are true every chance they can get. There will be some off the chart rumor that will be about Baltimore and someone will link Greinke to Bundy or Machado and that will then get made into Melvin was offered Machado and other prospects for Greinke but turned it down for something else.
  12. No it did not change in the new CBA. The only thing that has changed is that teams if they want to get supplemental picks is they have to offer a qualifying contract which is going to be something around $10-15m at least that is the rumored range nothing concrete yet that I have seen or can recall at the moment. The second part of your statement makes no sense at all. I think you are thinking of something completely different which isn't even in the FA compensation part. From the CBA: http://bizofbaseball.com/docs/2012-16CBA.pdf This link breaks down the new CBA almost perfectly. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/11/cba-details-luxury-tax-draft-.html
  13. So if Roenicke then makes the switch to someone in the bullpen and then they give up the lead its on Roenicke still right? I would have made the same move as Roenicke did there and not go to the bullpen as it is a mess. It was a 50/50 shot that either Wolf was going to get out of it or the bullpen was going to mess it up again. My bet would be on the bullpen messing it up anyways might as well just go with Wolf in that situation with just about no one in the bullpen you can trust at all.
  14. Extreme overpay by the Marlins. If this is any indication of what the trade market is going to be for a player like Carlos Lee a Greinke trade is going to bring in a whole lot more meaning a teams #1 prospect plus a prospect from the 10-15 range plus another 2 high upside prospects.
  15. There was a story about Carlos not wanting to go to the Dodgers because of tax reasons. Not sure if that is true or just speculation. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/rosenthals-latest-cardinals-greinke-astros-rasmus.html
  16. I honestly think there are at least 5-10 people who post regularly here who could do a better job than Roenicke. Hell, they'd probably do a better job than a lot of managers because it seems like most guys still think in terms of "old-school baseball." Then half of this board would call them Macha 2.0 and want them fired the day before they were hired. I always find the fire this manager because x y and z can do it better when x y and z are also being discussed to be fired and questioned why they are even in baseball as a manager. In the end a manager doesn't really have much of an effect on the game as most seem to think they do this is the "old-school baseball" mentality I guess.
  17. This is untrue. The Rangers could have kept Wilson last year they just decided what he was getting paid was over what they had him valued at. I still see Wilson as being over paid right now and if the Rangers would have given him more and for more years that would have been a really bad contract. This was just a GM being smart and knowing how far they should go and not to give in and pay the player more than they are actually worth.
  18. The Phillies are looking for a Mark Teixeira type of a haul for Hamels (4 to 5 prospects for Hamels). The demand by some here for a return on Greinke isn't even what the Phillies are looking to get for Hamels. The Phillies are looking at 3B so Olt would be in the discussion plus at least 3 more A-/B type prospects with a C+ prospect with a high ceiling. The Phillies are asking for the moon and rightfully so. I am not sure the Phillies will get that much as teams have been hesitant to give up that many prospects for awhile now even with getting picks in return. If the Rangers only offered Profar for Greinke it would be foolish to pass that deal up. The Phillies are actually setting the market which I like as it makes selling Greinke that much more easier.
  19. The one FA other than Greinke that I can see the Brewers being on in next off season is Liriano. It would be a very risky move but one I see Melvin and Mark A taking and selling to the fans as a #2 behind Gallardo. Not sure I would want Liriano with his past injuries but he is the one I expect the Brewers to go after.
  20. Seen quite a few people on here and other message boards talk about how it wont last. Read people calling him Suppan and such. It's stupid. Just people looking to be negative about a guy who has been nothing but positive so far. Sigh again. The Suppan comparisons are what will happen to him when he has an off night. Which means he will look like Suppan when he is not hitting his spots. For example when Collmenter is not hiding the ball and hitting his spots correctly he looks like Suppan as his stuff is not all that great. Sometimes I wonder if people read what is being written or just read what they want to read and leave out everything else.
  21. It is basically to see with their eyes what is going on and if the stats match up with what the player is doing. It is mostly just seeing for themselves and taking their "opinion" on the player to the GM.
  22. Josh Collmenter is the closest comp that I can think of for Fiers.
  23. I think Greinke is going to be heading to Baltimore. The Orioles to me look to be the most aggressive team to be going after Greinke no sources I just have a feeling that they are going to get Greinke as they have what Melvin and Mark A. are looking for. Mainly the Orioles will have a SS in Schoop who is blocked by both Machado and Hardy and the Orioles also have an MLB ready starter in Matusz or Arrieta. Matusz makes more sense to be in a trade as he was just sent back down to AAA a few days ago. I believe the Orioles will get Greinke and will be a package based around Matusz and Schoop with a B- or C level prospect thrown into the trade.
  24. If you are scouting a player and then say you are not in on that player sounds more like GM speak and posturing more so than anything else. Toronto is not really a team I would see getting in on Greinke anyways maybe in free agency but the way Toronto has been going after free agents I don't think they will be in on Greinke then either. The Orioles are said to be interested but with Machado off the table do the Orioles really have anything that the Brewers would want (Bundy is also not available)?
