  1. While Morris is having a good season he still needs to work on getting his walks up. Still at least at a minimum is 1 year away and is probably more like 2-years away.
  2. I don't believe he needs to be in AAA next year. That is just a waste of time for Segura. The competition in AAA is rather weak and he really doesn't have all that much to prove in the minors anymore. It would be a detriment to him improving if he is placed in AAA next year. I would rather see Segura in the majors next year where he will facing a higher level of competition otherwise the Brewers should just put him in AA as the talent level there is a lot higher than in AAA.
  3. I posted this in the link thread today as it had some other information on some Brewers prospects that was interesting. http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120829&content_id=37556608&notebook_id=37556720&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil Found this article interesting today about Gamel possibly playing in the AFL. He would have to be granted an exception since his MLB time exceeds what the AFL allows. Since there is a TBA it could be Gamel or another player. I think Garfield might get in as the last player but I am thinking if Roache is healthy the Brewers will be looking at getting him some playing time in the AFL. I am glad I am wrong about Morris not being in the AFL. Maybe I can catch some of the AFL games that he will be in this year though it is not looking promising with my work schedule right now .
  4. From Adam McCalvy today on Arnett and Burgos http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120829&content_id=37556608&notebook_id=37556720&vkey=notebook_mil&c_id=mil
  5. I really doubt potential free agents care or even pay attention to it. Could you imagine a free agent saying. "Wow, they traded Shaun Marcum in August when they were out of the race to a playoff contender so he would have a chance to play in the postseason. How nice of them. I'm strongly considering signing with them because of that." Probably not but I think what Boston did has more of an impact than something like that. Negatives always carry farther than anything positive.
  6. I use http://www.glassdoor.com/index.htm for salaries. That should give you a ballpark figure to ask for.
  7. If rewarding him is paying him more than he's worth or even market-value, I'd pass. However, if he would take a discount, I might consider it. I just don't think it's smart to spend a lot on players past 30, especially when they could be blocking younger, cheaper players. If it is only for 2-years fine as that would be when Morris would be ready. I am not sure what the Brewers have in Gamel. At the very least Gamel will be a really good bench bat. Is having Hart over Gamel a good or a bad thing? I am not sure what the answer to that question is. I would rather have Gamel at 1B but Hart is rather good also if Hart will cost $10m or less I would go with him but I would rather have the cost savings of Gamel and adding help to the bullpen.
  8. It is not like Lance Armstrong would ever win the case anyways. The American anti-doping agency would have kept on bringing civil suits against him. In the eyes of the American anti-doping agency the athlete has no rights at all and shouldn't even be able to defend themselves. In Braun's case I believe the president of the American anti-doping agency stated that Braun would have been suspended no matter what if they were in charge. I think he even went on to state that false positives are not a problem and that in the case of Braun he would be suspended without even a chance to defend himself as they wouldn't even hear a case for him. In the eyes of the American anti-doping agency they have a policy of the athlete has no right to defend themselves and they are to take the punishment no matter what even if it is a false positive test. I don't really care if Armstrong did roids or used performance enhancing drugs. It didn't even really matter as nearly every single participant in those events were using some kind of illegal drug so Armstrong really didn't have an advantage over anyone really.
  9. I find this rather odd and weird both the Rays and the A's don't play today. I am assuming this is because of the hurricane and they moved a game from Sunday and played it on Thursday? Has this ever happened before?
  10. I will take Adrian Gonzalez over Hamilton. When was the last time Hamilton finished a year when he wasn't on the DL for some period of the season? No DH in the NL so Hamilton can't be played there as he looks to be rather fragile and I don't believe he will make a move to 1B to prolong his career. Crawford will not be out for the whole year. If he was a pitcher yes but since he is not a pitcher the time frame for coming back from TJ surgery is 6-8 months for a position player. That would put him back at about the end of spring training or around the middle of the first month of the season. The Red Sox are not really interested in Greinke. I don't think the Red Sox are done dealing here there maybe some more moves coming this off season. I wonder if the Red Sox will make Lester available. Lester is only signed through 13 with a team option for 14. Lester would make a good #1 for the Brewers to put ahead of Gallardo. If the Red Sox would take a deal headed by Khris Davis, Burgos, and a lower level prospect that would be perfect but I don't believe the Red Sox would do that.
  11. I don't believe the Dodgers were ever going to be in on Greinke. They wanted Hamels more but couldn't get him in a trade and he then signed an extension with the Phillies. I don't believe this is a bad trade the Dodgers didn't really give up much of anything prospect wise. They gave up Loney who has been a disappointment and a couple of prospects who are not even all that good. I wouldn't even put them in the top 25 of the Brewers current prospects. Not really a good return for the Red Sox other than they killed a lot of their payroll.
  12. Who would have thought that the Diamondbacks would have this much drama in the broadcast booth this season? First Sutton and now Mark Grace with a DUI. http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8300650/mark-grace-takes-indefinite-leave-arizona-diamondbacks-job
  13. I think there is a small chance that he may veto it but probably only the Crawford part of the deal (my opinion). Selig could do a Stern and veto it all together but I doubt that will happen.
  14. He can play RF it is just that his arm can't play there. If his bat can play at RF I'm not all that worried that his arm would be inadequate for RF if anything you can bring in a defensive replacement in the later innings if you want. If Morris for whatever reason doesn't continue to improve I would be all for moving Braun to 1B and having Davis taking over in LF.
  15. Well the players the Dodgers are supposedly giving up are not all that great especially for what the Dodgers are getting. Even with the salaries that are involved with this move if all of the players truly are involved it seems like the Red Sox are getting a rather bad deal. As for free agency after this season who exactly would be better than Adrian Gonzalez and Crawford? Other than Josh Hamilton who would the Dodgers be interested in? Beckett and Punto there would be better options but the Dodgers really don't need another starter really and Punto is only going to cost $1.5m which is fine for a utility player. I would rather have Crawford and Gonzalez over Hamilton.
  16. You can but the commissioner needs to approve it I am going to assume that Bud Selig will approve this as the stars are going from one major market to another.
  17. It depends one which infield position you are talking about. SS and 2B you will want to have a lot of range as they need to cover more ground. I believe the order is SS, 2B, 3B, and then a distant last 1B as being positions you want range at. I can see not needing a guy with good range at 1B or 3B if you have guys with good range at 2B and SS. To me SS is the most important position in the infield where you need a player with a lot of range with 2B coming in a little bit behind SS.
  18. Just like the voters. Add in that he's having a good offensive season and there's no reason for him not to be considered. Well, if we are just talking about what the voters do, they care about three things: 1. Hitting Prowess 2. Errors 3. Previous Fielding Reputation I believe that ARam has little chance because of #3. You forget steps 4 and 5 4. Is name Jeter? 5. If not Jeter please see steps 1-4.
  19. Well they do kind of help in the healing process so I guess I can get on board with this explanation on why a player would take PEDs. On another note I don't believe Bautista is taking PEDs.
  20. I like Trey Ball the best but I am not sure he will be available when the Brewers are picking next year. The second player that I would want the Brewers to look at would be Kevin Franklin but he is probably more of a late round pick and then see if he signs or not. I would love to get either Austin Wilson or Justin Williams. I don't think Wilson will be available where the Brewers will be picking but it is early and maybe his stock will fall a little and he falls in the Brewers lap. In the end I think the Brewers go with Colin Moran. He is a rather advanced hitter and could be somewhat like Braun and progress through the minors rather quickly. Moran is probably going to be a rather good defensive 3B and the Brewers currently lack a good 3B prospect in the minors. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers take Morlan with the 8th or 9th pick in the draft.
  21. Rankings all depend on how you view a prospect and what value they have. Some people value performance more so than a players stuff while some others value stuff more so than the performance. While others value them equally and some others just pull numbers out of a hat and assign that to a player.
  22. Edwin Jackson > Jake Peavy
  23. My preferred lineup for the rest of the 2012 season: CF: Gomez SS: Segura 2B: Weeks RF: Aoki 1B: Hart 3B: Ramirez C: Lucroy/Maldonado P: Whoever is starting that game LF: Braun That should get the Brewers to somewhere around the Astros record.
  24. I wonder if the Brewers bullpen would be one of the best in MLB with Buck Showalter as manager. Bullpen management is the biggest impact a manager can have on a single game. RR continulally sets up the pen for failure. Unless management is forcing him to use KRod in the 8th, Axford in the 9th, he assumes an sizable portion of responsibility for their continued failures. So Showalter's bullpen management last year was the reason that their bullpen wasn't all that good? Because if his bullpen management is the reason they are good this year then it has to be the reason why it was bad last year right? The Brewers bullpen would be just as bad with Showalter or insert any MLB manager name here past or present. This has very little to do with bullpen management and more to do with the players underperforming I know you don't want to admit this and just want to use the easy scapegoat and blame the manager but the blame here is more on the players underperforming than it is the managers use of the bullpen. Also if you are blaming Roenicke for this years failures you have to give him credit for last years success of the bullpen. Now what happens if next years bullpen is a good to a great bullpen is Roenicke now a good manager of the bullpen?
  25. He is breathing and has been in baseball for awhile that is all he needs to be to be qualified as an MLB manager. I wonder if Joe Maddon was the Brewers manager and he had Aramis Ramirez bunt two times in one game how much would this board blow up. Or how badly Joe Maddon mismanaged his bullpen in his earlier years, wait we have that right now. There is no such thing as a good, average, or great manager every single one does more stupid things than you can even count up to in a single season. If you think this teams record is because of Roenicke you are just fooling yourself which even includes last years record. At best a manager is going to win you maybe one game a year if you are lucky. Most of the time the manager is either going to lose the game by doing something stupid or the team will just play poorly for no apparent reason at all. This years bullpen is completely underperforming and that is putting it lightly.
