  1. If Gamel can't get Bumgarner on his own how is Hardy and Gamel going to get Bumgarner and Sanchez? If Gamel was being talked about getting Halladay along with Escobar and others then I think Gamel for Bumgarner would be a perfect swap. Bumgarner is a prospect and Gamel is a prospect with some MLB experience. For the Brewers to move Gamel it would have to be for someone like Bumgarner and for the Giants to move Bumgarner its going to have to be someone like Gamel. If anything the Brewers could just have Hart thrown in with Gamel if that would be needed. Gamel for Bumgarner would be just about the same in talent level as the Rays and Twins trade and it helps both teams out. The Giants can afford trading one of their pitchers for a premium bat since the Giants really don't have that many in their system that are MLB ready. Gamel fills a void that the Giants need and Bumgarner fills a void that the Brewers need since this is almost a perfect trade I doubt it would ever happen.
  2. Salome shouldn't be called up this year but I bet he does get called up again I would rather the Brewers just call up Corporan and not waste Salome's service time for a month where he will only see at most 10-20 AB's if that. Gamel should also be up but I hope he gets more AB's than he did before. There will definitely be more pitchers coming up than positional players I believe. Heether is probably a lock to be coming up also.
  3. I was thinking of going to my first movie this summer and seeing District 9 all of the other movies so far this summer have been meh and haven't really interested me all that much. I'm hoping this will be a good movie unlike Terminator and others like it that I have read reviews of. Does anyone know when the Wolverine movie will be coming out on DVD?
  4. I wonder if a Mat Gamel for Madison Bumgarner would work for both sides. This is somewhat like a Garza for Young trade. Gamel batting either ahead or behind Sandoval would be a good #3 and #4 punch for a long time.
  5. I would only trade Gamel for someone like an Andrew Miller and maybe a big maybe here someone like Josh Johnson. The Marlins are going to be trading Dan Uggla away this off season more than likely and are going to need a 3B or a 2B.
  6. If you are trading Gamel it would be a Young for Garza type of a deal not someone like Halladay. One year of Halladay wouldn't be enough for losing Gamel. I would rather go after a young starting pitcher who hasn't really been in the majors yet. So no to Danks, Floyd, Halladay, Sanchez, Cain, or Floyd they all have way too much service time to consider trading Gamel for them.
  7. I would put it more on Rodriguez's injury than anything else. Jeter is going to be moved off of SS rather soon. There is no good 3B to replace Rodriguez at 3B defensively or offensively. Moving Rodriguez to DH would lower the load on his hip that he had surgery on. I believe it was his hip that he had surgery on this off season that cost him some regular season games. Jeter is getting older that is a fact and his defense is only going to deteriorate as he gets older. Hardy would be the perfect fit for the Yankees at SS plus if the Yankees get involved that drives up Hardy's value with the Red Sox.
  8. Corporan maybe a fit in a pinch at catcher replacing Kendall. Corporan will probably be the second catcher next year anyways if Salome isn't full healthy with Rivera. That is interesting that Bobby Valentine was released I didn't know that he will not be returning. It seemed as though he was happy over there and didn't really want to come back and manage in MLB. It looks as though it is a money issue the team not having enough to bring him back for another year. I would definitely would love to see Bobby Valentine as the Brewers manager. He should have been the one the Brewers went after.
  9. I think Valentine is loving it over in Japan and it would take a lot to pry him away from there. Same with the USA baseball coach I don't think he will be available either unless the Brewers over pay for him.
  10. Don Mattingly or Kremblas please. I could even go with someone like Boa I think I spelled his name right. Maybe even Ted Simmons but I think that bridge has been burned. How about Phil Garner for another go around this time he will have more talent to work with than he originally had back in the early and mid 90's.
  11. Swisher and Hart are about the same player. Hart is 27 and Swisher is 29 years old. Hart has a bigger upside than Swisher and it is basically a wash between the two the Yankees would get Hart for a cheaper price and extend him at a cheaper rate than what they would be paying Swisher. Hardy for Hughes who is like Buchholz would be a fair trade for both teams. The Yankees don't really have any MLB ready SS in their minor league system and I believe Jeter is going to have to move to 3B or to DH rather soon. I like Kennedy but there is no way I would trade Hardy just for Kennedy. Maybe a Kennedy, Coke, and Swisher package for Hardy, that is probably asking to much though, I could get on board with but Kennedy as the main piece no way. I could live with just a Hughes and Swisher for a Hart and Hardy trade but Hardy for Kennedy no way. Hardy would bring in more if the Brewers would just keep him and lose him in free agency and get a couple of picks for him.
  12. He wasn't coming back and I doubt he would have done any better than Castro did and he would have cost more while getting about the same production from this pitching staff.
  13. This is probably an off the wall idea and probably wouldn't work but here it goes anyway. Brewers send J.J. Hardy and Corey Hart to the Yankees. Yankees send Phil Hughes and Nick Swisher to the Brewers. The Yankees would then move Jeter to 3B and Aroid (my bad I will only do that once) to DH. The Yankees will be either letting go of Matsui and Damon or both and will probably sign Holliday in the offseason to replace Damon. Arod would replace Matsui as the everyday DH and Hart would take over for Swisher and Damon. The Yankees would then have an OF of Holliday (LF) Jackson (CF) Hart (RF) with Melky and Gardner on the bench. The Yankees are going to have to move Jeter to 3B sooner or later. Hardy makes a lot of sense for them to be playing at SS next year with Jeter moving to 3B and Arod moving to DH. With that injury to Arod playing everyday at 3B may not be an option it is the same injury that Lowell had and Lowell has had some problems with that injury. I'm not sure how much the injury will hurt Arod's defense at 3B but I'm pretty sure that it may start affecting his hitting. So this would be a logical move by the Yankees to get a cheap and young SS in Hardy while moving Jeter over to 3B. I don't believe Jeter could play the OF at his age and playing him as the DH wouldn't be wise when you could have Posada or Arod at DH. This may not be the best deal for Hardy and a Hart trade but it does give the Brewers the starting pitcher they need and a CF or RF for a couple of more years that the Brewers need. Swisher could play CF next year for the Brewers and be the stop gap until Cain or Schafer are ready all along being able to move Swisher over to RF when one of them are ready to take over in CF. Next year all you would have to do is find a platoon player to go with Cat I believe the Brewers could find someone to platoon with Cat in RF next year. Now I'm not really high on Hughes with his injury issues in the past and I'm not sure the Yankees would trade Hughes especially if they don't know what is going to happen with Pettite but they still have Coke and Kennedy they could put in the rotation. Maybe the Brewers would have to add something into the deal but if they had to add anything more significant than a C type prospect I wouldn't do it unless Kennedy or Coke would be coming also.
  14. Yeah that is the biggest mystery yet I still don't know why he is still around with all the mistakes he has made this year. Not sending guys when he should have sent them and sending guys when he shouldn't have sent them.
  15. Hardy wasn't passed through waivers though. Melvin never put Hardy through waivers yet that maybe coming soon though.
  16. Well look on the bright side here at least Melvin didn't call up Corey Patterson. (Knocks on wood)
  17. Lopez can't play SS with his bad hamstring, Counsell will get some starts against righties, and Hall has been DFA'd.
  18. Well if JJ is steaming mad right now he better look at the mirror to see who he should be mad at. When you are batting as good as Hall is and worse than Kendall you should expect a move like this.
  19. I think the Yankees and the Red Sox would have more money than the Cubs would be able to throw at Fielder at that time.
  20. Well you can't blame Castro for Suppan and Looper and the other pitchers. I could see someone blaming Castro for Parra and Gallardo pitching erratically this year. The bullpen has been really good this year and if it wasn't for it being over used it would probably be the best bullpen in the NL. I don't see how you can blame Castro for this pitching staff. You had to expect Looper and Suppan to be getting worse maybe not Looper but you knew Suppan wasn't going to improve and he would be a 5.00 ERA type of a pitcher that is just who Suppan is. There would be nothing that Castro could have done to make Suppan better or worse. If Suppan had a 3.00 ERA would that be because of Castro?
  21. Over at Baseball America they are reporting that the Brewers have signed Richardson. Brewers sign Richardson for $400,000
  22. Fangraphs has Bowden at this at the MLB level. They don't have the AAA numbers for that but have everything else bleh. 23. Ryan Pickett to me = Mike Cameron. Charles Woodson was a gamble by the Packers and most thought he was done as a player. It would be like the Brewers picking up a young player who just came off an injury and his career was in doubt. Jamal Lewis is comparable to a veteran pitcher like a Suppan. Old running backs never really work out and once a RB hits free agency their career is usually about over. Corey Dillon and Edgerin James come to mind as free agent running backs. Another example of a team spending money on washed up players is the Kansas City Royals. Look at the Guillen signing and you will see what I mean. Small market teams in MLB can sign free agents but it is usually not a good idea. Young talent is better to have than the aging veterans who cost way to much for a small market team compared to their production.
  24. He does strike out less but he also walks less. Dye's line drive percentage has also taken a hit from last year nearly 6% less and 3.1% less than his career average. Cameron's line drive percentage has declined also but his decline from his career norm is less than Dye's is 1.1% decrease compared to 3.1% decrease and both are about the same career wise in ld%. Also you have to take into consideration Dye's defense versus Cameron's defense and that is a no brainer right there you take Cameron's over Dye's any day of the week. Cameron still has positive value when you compare his offense and defense at the position he plays. While you compare Dye's offense and defense at the position he plays it is less than what Cameron gives you. Thus that makes Cameron the better option while Cameron is also a cheaper option than Dye. When you take into consideration defense + offense - cost you will get a fair judgment on who is the better player for the Brewers. You add all of that into an equation I bet you will have Cameron ahead of Dye.
  25. Teams in the NFL can build around the draft just like teams in MLB. The difference here is that it takes a lot longer for a MLB team to build through a draft than it does an NFL team. With an NFL team if you can get a superstar QB in the draft like the Falcons did your team can go from joke of the league to serious playoff contenders. In MLB that is rarely what happens since you have to fill more than one spot up with superstar and above average talent. MLB teams can also build through trading which NFL teams can not because of the salary cap penalties. That means no Sabathia for the Brewers last year the Brewers would have had to sit on their hands and do nothing and take the team they had if MLB had the same salary cap as the NFL has. There is just no way for a salary cap like the NFL has will work in MLB. The one in the NBA or NHL may work with MLB bust I highly doubt those would work also. I still truly believe that MLB only needs to get a draft like the NBA and work out the compensation picks for teams when losing a high valued free agent.
