  1. Actually before we signed Ned Yost I wanted Bobby Valentine to be the guy we would have signed. To me he was the best option at the time. I wouldn't mind Bob Brenly. The big name manager would be Don Mattingly though I'm not sure it would be the best move since he has no experience as being a manager.
  2. I can think of others that I hate more than Yost. Yost doesn't even crack the top 5 in the most hated managers list. I always hated Phil Garner.
  3. I don't see who the Cubs could get in return without bankrupting their farm system. They are not willing to trade Pie. If they are to make any trade it will be with their younger players and are they really willing to get rid of a Marmol or a Pie for a better bat? Who would they even be able to get? I doubt the Reds will trade with the Cubs unless they got a trade that they couldn't pass up. That means no Dunn or Griffey to the Cubs. I don't see the Pirates trading with the Cubs again. Even though I believe Bay is now expendable for them. The only other option is Barry Bonds and I don't see the Cubs picking him up.Theres not that many options for the Cubs. I doubt they will go offense anyways since their starting rotation hasn't looked to good. Besides Dempster and Zambrano their starting pitching hasn't been that great.
  4. Depends on where the Padres are and when the trade happens. Not to turn this into a trade discussion but, I could see if the Padres are really desperate and it looks like they are not going anywhere I could see a Chris Young for a Tony Gwynn and Gamel trade. This would also depend on where the Brewers are sitting if we are still in it this trade would be good. It would be good if we weren't in the race for a playoff spot. We would probably also get a throw in player and there would be another minor league player in the deal also from the Brewers.
  5. A person named Tony Gwynn Jr.
  6. IMHO I believe Hall is not a player who will hit over .260 every year. He will be around the .240-.250 area. Which is fine as a #6 hitter as long as he is getting his extra base hits. I don't see how a strike out is worse than a pop out or a ground out. They are both equal 1 out, one is not worth more or less they are both equal. A strike out can actually be better than a ground out. Example if you have a player at 1st and 1 out do you want the player to strike out or hit into the double play ending the inning. I would rather take my chances with the next hitter. Strike outs have become an overrated stat when looking at players who strike out. There are times when a pop out is beneficial, a ground out is beneficial, and a strike out is beneficial to a team.
  7. I don't see many managers that will be available that will have that kind of experience available. Don Mattingly could be a candidate for the managers job. This probably depends on if he goes back to the Yankees or not. Other than him I don't see that many other viable options.
  8. Hall SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2008 Mil 33 124 11 26 6 0 7 19 12 35 1 2 .210 .279 .427 .706 Hardy SEASON TEAM G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB CS AVG OBP SLG OPS 2008 Mil 31 108 8 25 3 0 1 9 14 14 0 0 .231 .317 .287 .604 Hall SEASON TEAM TPA #PIT #P/PA TB SF SH HBP IBB GIDP GB FB G/F 2008 Mil 137 544 3.97 53 0 1 0 2 3 42 36 1.17 Hardy SEASON TEAM TPA #PIT #P/PA TB SF SH HBP IBB GIDP GB FB G/F 2008 Mil 124 482 3.89 31 1 1 0 3 4 48 37 1.30 Also Hall has a lot more extra base hits than Hardy does. Hardy is struggling at the plate more so than Hall is. Hardy's average and OBP are deceiving. Half of Hall's hits have been for extra base hits. Hall is fine he will never hit over .260 unless it is a career year. He will hit 25-30 HR's a year though. Hardy will be lucky to hit 20 ever again in his career.
  9. He is probably the one to be shipped off. It doesn't look like Blanton is going anywhere.
  10. There won't be a trade until the trading deadline. Its not that Doug Melvin doesn't want to do a trade right now its just that no teams would be interested in a trade right now. I could see the Marlins dumping players since some of their players are entering into arbitration years. Millwood could be traded but he has a huge contract and I doubt the Rangers are going to want to eat some of that contract. In Peter Gammons blog he said that the Rangers wanted Mike Pelfrey, Aaron Heilman, and Deolis Guerra and that was just a negotiation starting point. Talk about over pricing a player. Millwood would be the best fit for the Brewers but I'm just not sure we have the right pieces to trade to the Rangers. The Rangers have a lot of OF depth and infield depth. Not to mention they have some of the best catching prospects. Other options could be Rich Harden. Even though he is injured and he could be coming off the DL soon. He might be the best bet that would be the cheapest for the Brewers to go after. Cheap as in the Brewers wouldn't have to use a lot of prospects to get Harden. I could see Hardy being traded or Gwynn being traded at or before the deadline but everyone else except for maybe Hall and the BP guys could be traded. Hall and the BP guys would be dependent on if we are completely out of the race for a playoff spot.
  11. Why does everyone want Corey Hart to be batting in the lead off spot? Hart just doesn't get enough walks to be a good lead off hitter. Last year he had less walks than Hall did. So far this year Hart has only 9 walks. Plus if you put Hart in the lead off spot who do you put in the 5 hole? Do you put Cameron, Hall, or Weeks there? Hall is good and all but I believe the 6th spot is the best spot for him. Didn't he have his best year batting in the 6th and 7th spot in the lineup in 2006? I know its not the same lineup as that year but he did have success in that spot of the order. I believe the current lineup is the best lineup that could be made up with the current team we have.
  12. I'm not making excuses for Gagne being not great so far its just that I think he has ran into some really bad luck. I doubt this will continue with Gagne. When you look at the available closers that we could have gotten only Percival would have been the cheaper option and I believe he wanted more than a one year deal that the Brewers were offering him. I'm not sure if we would even be at the same record as we are now without Gagne. It would have been either Riske or Turnbow as the closer starting out the year. Knowing Ned it probably would have been Turnbow as the closer. I really like Turnbow and I think he can be an adequate BP guy but he is not a closer anymore at least not for Milwaukee. The only way Turnbow could be a closer again is with another team like Brad Lidge going from Houston to Philly. If you look at the person who had the most saves last year in Valverde he hasn't been dominant either so far this year either. It's early and maybe it was just a jump to a conclusion where it seems Gagne is getting squeezed. I still believe he has been getting squeezed on the borderline pitches. Something has to give here maybe his luck will change in the next couple of games.
  13. I believe it is more than just a lingering wrist injury. He is not throwing the ball very hard and has been playing back defensively. This also maybe just all in what Aramis does anyone he is a lazy player. I still think Aramis will go on the DL later this year which will hurt the Cubs more so than if Soriano goes on the DL again. I'm just not convinced that this is just a lingering wrist injury.
  14. The way Aramis has been throwing the ball to 1B looks as though he wants Derrick Lee to get injured. Maybe Aramis is having some arm problems. Every game that I have seen from the Cubs Aramis has been throwing the ball very poorly. It looks as though something is wrong with his elbow when he is throwing the ball. Nearly all of his throws have been waist down. Rarely have I seen Aramis throwing the ball to the chest or even above Lee. They have been either waist high or lower. This could be hazardous for Lee if he has to stretch out a little bit more and a runner hits him as he is stretching for a ball. This was the same way he got injured before if I remember correctly.
  15. It feels like every game that the strike zone for Gagne is getting tighter and tighter. Every time I have been watching Gagne pitch the zone seems to shrink when he comes into the game. Today there were a couple of borderline strikes that should have been called a strike. A couple of strikes that were borderline in his first blown save. It feels like it is becoming a trend. Maybe someone can look up the stats and see if my feeling is correct. My gut is telling me that Gagne is being squeezed because of his past.
  16. I would trade Tony Gwynn Jr. and a mid level prospect for Kevin Millwood. The only problem with Millwood would be his big contract. But this could also work to the Brewers advantage instead of trading a big name prospect for Millwood and the Rangers paying all the salary the Brewers could take Millwood and get away with only a Tony Gwynn Jr. type of a player for Millwood.
  17. I bet he signs with us next year. If we follow the signing of former retired players trend.
  18. The Rays have a better pitching staff than the Phillies though and their offense could be on par with the Phillies or just a little bit less. The Mets are an inconsistent team though maybe Santana later in the year will give them the consistency that they would need. The Rays look like the 2005 Brewers if you want to compare the Brewers and the Rays. I bet they will finish with a near similar record as the Brewers did that year.
  19. If the Rays were in the NL East they would be a favorite to win that division. To bad they play in the AL East.
  20. Never even should have gotten to the 10th inning. The bases loaded up with Hart at the plate and he looks like a little leaguer and grounds out.
  21. Depends who is picking ahead of us. I think we could get Beasley if we get a top 3 pick. If not I don't see why we can't trade down and then take D.J. Augustin later in the first and then draft Brian Butch in the second round for some bench help. I believe Butch could be a Kukoc type of a player. I don't think he will be as good as of a defender as Kukoc was but he could definitely be an offensive threat like Kukoc. Does anyone think that the Kelvin Sampson rumor might be a pointer that the Bucks are looking at Gordon? I'm not sure this would be a wise move I don't think Gordon is a good PG/SG. He wouldn't be an upgrade over Williams or Redd. We would be getting basically the same player. What about Mayo? If the Bucks were to draft in the 4-6th spot in the draft would they take Mayo? Does anyone remember what round in the playoffs they do the draft lottery?
  22. Bogut and Yi are too slow to play PF and SF respectively. Not really maybe Yi would be to slow but Bogut would be fine at PF. The only player I see worth while going after assuming the Bucks don't get a SF type of a player in the draft would be Shawn Marion and we would have to over pay for him to come to the Bucks. Plus I don't think Marion will be a good player if he doesn't have someone like Nash passing him the ball all the time. Williams is no Nash in passing he is more like an extra SG. Hopefully the Bucks get a top 3 pick and they will be able to land Beasley.
  23. I was watching the Time Warner Sports show that they have on their channel. One of the people on the show said that the team was now Bogut's after the final game of this season. So how does Redd and Williams react to this? Are the Bucks a better team with Bogut leading them? I still believe that trading Redd would be best for the team. I know Redd's contract isn't that great to trade away but maybe the Cav's will take on his salary and we could pick up Zydrunas Ilgauskas and another player for Redd. This would allow us to move Bogut to PF which he would be a better option as and move Yi to SF which he would make him even better. The only better option in Free Agency that the Bucks could get instead of Yi at SF would be Shawn Marion. But I don't think the Bucks would be able to sign him without getting rid of Redd and Williams.
  24. I don't think the Brewers will release Turnbow. I believe Turnbow would clear waivers but would Turnbow go down to the minors is the question really. I believe Turnbow will be traded. I don't want to get rid of Stetter either we shouldn't be sending him down. We definitely need a second lefty in the bullpen. You can't use Shouse every night and Stetter has looked good so far. I believe it will work like this. Turnbow gets sent down to the minors. A couple months later when the Tigers bullpen starts blowing up again the Brewers get a call and trade Turnbow to the Tigers for something. Stetter stays with the Crew Bush gets put into the bullpen for long relief work taking over McClung's job who takes over Turnbow's spot in the bullpen.
