  1. Yes, but he's hurting our pitchers the way he's shuffling them around. I wasn't a huge fan of Estrada, but he was adequite as a starter, then he pitched three days of relief and it killed him. This type of shuffling of starters to relievers can't be done. You need your starters stretched out.
  2. No kidding. 7.0 IP / 14 K / 0 BB / 4 H / 2 ER... 14/0 K/BB ratio. Haha, ridiculous.
  3. 14-13 (finally a winning month) 3+2+5 = 10
  4. Yeah, put me in as someone who was also excited to see them try this on Sunday, and then disappointed when they reverted back right away again on Monday. It must have been the lineup that caused Suppan to throw meatballs and lose the game on Sunday - better switch it back.
  5. I hope so Prince. From what I've read on the minor league forums from coach; Salome has some issues similar to what Zach Grienke went through. He should be back, but we don't have an exact time-table.
  6. Aren't you all forgetting that Melvin has tried to address the "bad luck" in the pitcher area. I'm sure he was just as sick of all his top pitcher pickups getting injured as we are - which is why he picked up Rick Petersen. He is supposed to be the guy that will prevent this from happening to us as much in the future. His entire MO is fixing pitchers deliveries to make them safer and less injury-prone. The hope is in a few years we are talking about our pitching prospects who made it to the bigs, not who all got injured.
  7. sheethead, do you see what FtJ did in his post? That is what people were asking of you. When you dismissed their points with blatant opinions and were being overly critical of them, they wanted some "why?" points to make a good arguement... not just opinions. Before FtJ posted I was completely with everyone else. However, FtJ actually got me thinking more about this, and to be honest did a great job of "proving" that Trevor has been historically (for him) ineffective. It might be hard to prove why he's been ineffective, but because of that... to me... it will also be hard for me to be confident in him improving in time to give us a shot at making the post season.
  8. True, but Howard also has more hardware than Prince at this point -- Rookie of the Year, MVP, World Series ring, and a pair of NL pennants. That kind of thing tends to factor into contract negotiations, but I agree $109M guaranteed for Prince seems low for what he's demanding. I'd think he would at least want $120M guaranteed over those 6 years -- still significantly lower than the Howard deal, but more in line for what he's been rumored to be looking for.Yes, but Prince is also significantly younger, which could prove to be a big advantage in contract negotiations. The chance of a dropoff coming are slim. In fact, he really is is still a few years away from his prime; whereas Howard is already in his prime.
  9. I agree with that Invader. Yost is actually a good fit for a bad team that will be looking to play a lot of young players until they get better. We know Yost wasn't the whole reason for the Brewers turnaround. But he was a really important piece into getting them respectable again. And some could easily argue he would still be a better fit than our current manager.
  10. "Roller Coaster" and "Tilt-A-Whirl" are ok... but at the same time, you know what's coming with those. I think my favorite so far is "Macha's Mysterious Travelling Show."
  11. And are even likely to give you seizures if you watch too closely?
  12. I'd rather watch Lincecum pitch, it's just sweet seeing his entire body flail like it does. Plus I just hate Ubaldo's name... it's the only reason why I always pass him over on my fantasy baseball drafts. Haha! So I'd rather see Lincecum win it again. Though I think it's probably Halladay's to lose in the minds of most of the voters. Halladay has been my favorite fantasy baseball pitcher for who knows how long. He's as consistant as they come.
  13. So... does last night's game indicate that Russ was probably the closest to being right? :-)
  14. My Prediction = 14-14 Tie Breaker = 5+9+3 = 17
  15. 1. Escobar 2. Weeks 3. Braun 4. Fielder 5. McGehee 6. Hart/Edmunds/Gerut 7. Zaun 8. Pitcher 9. Gomez IMO Escobar will have a higher OBP than Gomez, but this way Gomez can be like another leadoff hitter at the bottom. If he gets on he has the ability to steal and do his thing. Also Rickie should have more RBI opportunities with 2 lead-off-ish hitters ahead of him.
  16. I probably could have predicted that you'd pick the Rays GM. You talk a lot about liking what the Rays have done. And while I can't really argue with you on most points... it seems like part of it that you gloss over is that a TON of the talent they have they've gotten by being the worst team in the league (or close to it) for years. They stock-piled high 1st round draft picks and got a ton of talent. Yes, they had to make the right picks and evaluate the talent - but I think you might overrate him slightly. I agree he is a good GM, but I wouldn't put him at #1.
  17. I really don't think any GM could win on this site. We criticize him for keeping players too long; even though it's extremely hard to predict someone like Hardy is going to have a terrible year after two very good ones. We criticize him for letting to of players too early; even when there's no evidence to suggest said player would keep producing at a decent level for years to come. I could keep going... but you get the point. Basically no matter how good a move seemed at the time, if it doesn't work out perfectly, he gets chastized. Come on, that's not even close to fair. No one can truely know what's going to happen with a specific player. We just have to take the evidence and work with it. And regarding the above trade; I think the evidence could have easily suggested that we would have made out better in this trade. That didn't happen because of many things outside of DM's control - and I really don't think he should be getting reamed because of it. At the time, it wasn't a blockbuster trade, but it should have been at least considered a solid move. And I think for the most part it was. Yeah, some people criticized it at the time; but you'll have that with any move... because some people are just more pessimistic in nature - plus then they get to tell everyone they were right when it does fail.
  18. The point was there is a pretty wide gap between those. The difference between NYY and the LAA group is HUGE. And the difference between the majority and the FLA group is also pretty wide. I wanted those to stand out.
  19. I would say more like: Tier 1: Yankees Tier 2: Tier 3: Red Socks Tier 4: LAA/LAD/CHC/CHW/DET/PHI/NYM Tier 5: The Majority Tier 6: Tier 7: KC/PIT/MIA/OAK/FL Edit: You might even be able to throw another tier between the LAA group and The Majority...
  20. I would say it's more like all of last year and at least half of the year before... probably more like everything except the first month. Hardy's only under-achieving year was last year (his 1st year wasn't under-achieving to me since he shouldn't have been up that early anyway) and the rest he finished as one of the top 5 at his position.
  21. If he had said Sveum is a better manager, sure. Or even if he said he thought that Sveum would be the better manager going forward. But the way he worded it, I also thought he was talking in past tense as thought Sveum would have gotten better results last year because the players would have liked him better.
  22. The season is still young. Dave Bush can probably grow a beard faster and fuller than any man alive.I think Chuck Norris would disagree. ;-)
  23. I can't believe no one mentioned how good Rickie looks. He looks to be in fantastic shape. I'm excited!
  24. Haha, this made me laugh out loud at work. Well done.
  25. Isn't McGahee a football player? ;-)
