  1. I'm cautiously optimistic about the Sogard / Gyorko platoon. I'm never excited about bringing in former Cardinals though. Call it PTSD from all the pitching we brought in under Melvin.
  2. I'd like to sign Todd Frazier as a strict platoon option. With teams being forced to use pitchers for 3 batters, I feel it's going to raise the value of heavy platoon split hitters. Teams will know what pitcher is starting the inning and can load their lineup to match up against them.
  3. Buchholz is a sneaky good option. His FB, CT and CH were all plus pitches a year ago.
  4. A platoon would likely put up similar numbers than Cabrera with better defense. Although I would definitely take Cabrera over Harrison. No idea what Cabrera is looking for in terms of a contract. If we're platooning Spangenberg/Perez at 2B, then Shaw is starting every single game against LHP. Cabrera brings much better offense and allows Perez to play elsewhere. This is the key to our next pickup. Our lineup could use an upgrade at 2B and we were very vulnerable against LHP in the playoffs. Getting a switch hitter or a RH bat to start at 2B would fill both those holes at once.
  5. Eh, he doesn't crush lefties. At least he didn't in 2018. He posted just a .610 OPS against LHP last year. Perez on the other hand is coming off his best year facing LHP, hitting .277/.304/.479 in 125 PA last year against lefties. I just don't get the "anybody but Perez" thinking. Perez is a good heads up player. He might hit better playing primarily one position but he's a respectable .263 hitter with a .404 slugging percentage in a Brewer uniform. With the potential impact guys off the market, I'm fine with Perez with occasional starts by Spangenberg as the alternative until Hiura. In 2018, Flores had some weird reverse platoon stats going on with an .804 OPS against RHP and only a .604 OPS against LHP. However, he slugged .710 and .553 against LHP in 2016/2017 and has slugged .471 against LHP in his career. His reverse platoon in 2018 and his past history against LHP is what gives me hope that a breakout might be coming. I've never seen anything from Hernan Perez that gives me hope that he can handle RHP. That is the reason behind the "anybody but Perez" thinking. Even if we signed someone like Wilmer Flores, that doesn't mean that Hernan's role on the team would change. Travis Shaw is a complete liability against lefties and it would greatly benefit the team if Hernan picked up those AB's. If we go with a 13 man pitching staff, that leaves 4 spots on the bench. Perez is our only RH bat besides a catcher so one of Spangeberg/Gamel (LH bat with an option) would be the odd man out unless we moved Thames.
  6. I'm intrigued by Wilmer Flores. He's young, doesn't strike out much, versatile, crushes lefties and won't cost much. He would also fit nicely as Shaws platoon partner if Keston tears the cover off the ball.
  7. I can see the reasoning behind this trade if Schoop is going to play some SS. Both Moustakas and Schoop should play everyday in our lineup with Shaw platooning with Arcia. VS RHP 3B Moustakas SS Schoop 2B Shaw VS LHP 3B Moustakas SS Arcia 2B Schoop That power vs RHP is insane. Last year Moustakas, Schoop and Shaw hit 38, 32 and 31 HR's! Plus The extra quality player on the bench would ease the pain of all the double switches that the team does. Against RHP with all that extra power, they could get an early lead and bring in Arcia to improve the defense. If they're trailing against a LH starter and they bring in a RH reliever, then you have a LH power bat who could change the course of the game in a swing. I'm really hoping this is how it shapes up. It would be fun to watch all those DINGERZ!
  8. Are you going to teach him to play the middle infield? Because he's not an improvement over Cain, Yelich, Thames or Aguilar.
  9. What other teams have a need at 2B? I know that the Dodgers were looking at Dozier but if they get Machado you can cross them off the list of suitors.
  10. This feels an awful lot like the Twins DFA'ing Big Papi. After seeing this surge, I'd be sick to my stomach if I was an Indians fan.
  11. The problem with Escobar is that he's in a month long slump and isn't showing any signs of getting out of it. He's also a "switch hitter" but his splits suggest he should be platooned against LHP. The good thing is that he's crushing RHP on the year which he would face the majority of the time. I view him as a slightly better Brad Miller.
  12. It suggests that Wilkerson is considered a capable pitcher... Who's to say the Orioles aren't interested in Wilkerson & Woodruff? Wilkerson has a 3.74 FIP in the majors, albeit a very small sample size.
  13. This is how I feel. I'd be willing to include Zach Davies or Brent Suter as the 3rd piece but Baltimore would have to sweeten the pot a bit. A reliever would make sense but Britton, Brach and Givens all walk way too many for my liking. Maybe a change of scenery would help them though?
  14. I would bet that the Orioles are targeting value more so than a specific position. Both Ruiz and Mejia are top 50 prospects.
  15. So the Dodgers have the best offer without including Verdugo or Alvarez? Looks like a lot of people are going to be eating crow on this site if that's the case.
  16. The thread starter is correct. Losing Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson is what set the Brewers back for years. If they were around, we wouldn't have made the Greinke and Marcum trades.
  17. Yet you don't want to trade Hiura. So who are you going to get out there that has a higher upside than Fulmer without trading Hiura? J.A. Happ
  18. Why would you even consider making this move? Who would he be an improvement over?
  19. I'm not really a big fan of Merrifield since he's an extreme platoon player. I'd rather target a more balanced bat if we're going to pay the price in prospects. vs LHP - .388/.427/.612/1.039 vs RHP - .230/.325./.291/.615
  20. Dietrich makes so much sense! He would solve our 2B problem and make our lineup loaded 1-6. Now I'm going to get my hopes up that this happens.
  21. Machado (even as a rental) will cost a ton. As for your untouchables, I can understand the first 3 names but I need you to explain why Luis Ortiz. Ortiz has yet to pitch 100 innings in ANY season so far and if I read his record correctly Ortiz will need to be added to the 40 man this off-season or be exposed to the Rule 5 draft in Dec 2018. If he remains healthy, now maybe the time to move him while you can get some value in return. The lack of innings aren't an issue with me because I view him as a future multi-inning reliever. There's no way the Brewers expose him to the Rule 5 draft because they would surely lose him. His FB / SL combo should play up very well out of the pen and could probably help us now if we really needed him. The Brewers lack an elite starting pitcher but the entire pitching staff could be above average if they don't foolishly trade it away. Peralta, Burnes and Ortiz all have the potential to be #3's or better with the floor of an above average reliever. And for the record, I believe Ortiz has the highest upside of the 3 because of his slider.
  22. Keston Hiura, Freddy Peralta, Corbin Burnes and Luis Ortiz are all off the table in my world. Because of that, I would target short term rentals who won't cost a ton. 1. Wilson Ramos - C 2. Manny Machado or Jose Iglesias - SS I'd offer Woodruff + an outfielder for Machado and if that's not enough (which it won't be) then I would turn my attention to Iglesias. We should be able to cobble enough production out of 2B between Villar, Miller and Perez.
  23. It is not. Then I'd happily pass. I'm not willing to give up anything other than spare parts in a trade at this point. Somehow the Astros turned 3 major league ready spare parts into Garrett Cole. My offer is roughly the same value as what the Pirates received. You could swap out Santana with Corey Ray or Brett Phillips if they want more control. Then toss in another pitching prospect that would have to be protected in next years rule 5 draft like Cody Ponce or Marcos Diplan.
  24. I would offer Domingo Santana, Jacob Nottingham and Brandon Woodruff. If that's not enough then pass.
  25. Zack Brown's last two starts have been absolutely ridiculous.
