  1. I'm wondering why they omitted Clint Barmes from the article? Is it the whole trading in the same division thing? Aside from that he seems like the best realistic option along with Furcal
  2. Aramis has a 16 million dollar club option for next year with a 2 million dollar buyout. The Cubs almost assuredly will decline the option and buy him out for the 2 million next year if he's not traded. My guess is if the Cubs try to trade Ramirez, he'll try using his no-trade clause to tell the Cubs and any team interested that he'd waive that no-trade clause, but only if the interested team agreed to exercise his option for next year. That may not end up working, but i'd expect Ramirez to at least try it if the Cubs shop him. I thought I read that his option automatically vests if he's traded.
  3. I was drooling about this idea the other day but could we afford his $16M option for next year? If that's not an issue and he's willing to play here we should DEFINITELY look into it. But all I really want is a league average production out of our left infield. A .700+ OPS out of both of those positions would look awfully good compared to what we've gotten out of Betancourt and McGehee..
  4. Clint Barmes anyone? .248/.325/.379/.7045.2 UZR (4th highest)1.8 WARNot a Type A or B FAOwed less than $2M for the rest of the yearWalks at a good rate - 8.7%
  5. * DFA Kotsay * DFA Betancourt* Bring up Taylor Green to use in a platoon with McGehee and occasionally Gamel.* Bring up Mike McClendon until Brandon Kintzler is healthy. * Trade for one of Reyes/Hardy/Furcal with the most likely being Rafael Furcal who will come cheap in prospects.* removing one of the SS's after trading for a SS. If its Furcal keep Wilson (who's more durable than Counsell) but if its Hardy keep Counsell as a LH compliment to him.* Use Kam Loe as a long reliever and send Estrada to AAA.* Trade for another lefty like Tim Byrdak or go big and go after a K-Rod who the Mets will give away so they don't have to risk his contract vesting.* Trade for a backup catcher like Ivan Rodriguez who be a major defensive upgrade. I'm getting sick and tired of watching all these wild pitches and passed balls.
  6. He won't be a minor league deal but how about Jon Rauch?
  7. Finishing up with something like this would end a perfect offseason: * Jim Edmonds for our LH PH with pop * 1 of Capuano/Washburn/Francis/Millwood for our 5th/6th SP * 1 of Punto/Renteria/Cabrera to be our starting SS
  8. I wonder how much we could get him for? This article from the Denver Post suggests that the Rockies wouldn't offer him much more than a million. I'd love to see Doug snag him if it didn't cost much more than that.
  9. Im all for Punto. Switch hitter excellent defender who can take a walk? Sign me up.
  10. If we can afford it I really like the idea of adding both Pavano and Blanton. Getting 5 guys who can pitch 200 innings with the type of bullpen and offense we have is a reason for optimism.
  11. I think you're looking at Gamel and Cain plus one of Axford/Jeffress but it would be worth it.
  12. Im thinking Melvin found out that he could get a nice starting pitcher like Matt Garza or Jair Jurrjens for Lorenzo Cain plus Axford or Jeffress and he plans on using the Fielder trade to fill our hole at closer and 1st base. The Rays are looking for cheap help at 1st, DH, OF and all over the bullpen and with Broxton as our new closer we could match up very well. Would a Lorenzo Cain, Mat Gamel, John Axford for BJ Upton and Matt Garza make sense with Broxton and Loney already on the team?
  13. According to this article the Rays are looking to trade Garza, Bartlett and Upton because they're reaching arbitration. They need help at 1st, DH, OF and massive help rebuilding their bullpen. I actually think we match up great with a deal for Garza centered around Cain, Gamel and McClendon. They could put Cain and Jennings in LF and CF and use Upton to acquire a closer.
  14. I've been thinking about Carl Pavano despite the drawbacks for those very reasons.
  15. Ive thought all along that Gavin Floyd would be the guy we most likely landed. If Melvin could somehow land Zack Greinke for a deal around Brett Lawrie our rotation goes from awful to exceptional.
  16. I post as Troll Fighter on the JSonline and Ive all but given up calling out the idiots on there. Im convinced we might have the worst fan base in the world.
  17. Martin Perez - http://projectprospect.com/article/2010/06/13/martin-perez-scouting-report http://www.baseball-intellect.com/texas-rangers-top-prospects-2010/ Derek Holland - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/minorleagues/prospects/y2009/profile.jsp?t=p_top&pid=502706 Tanner Scheppers - http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?topic_id=7962336&content_id=7150811
  18. Some names to consider:Martin Perez LHPTanner Scheppers RHP Mitch Moreland 1B/OF (I really really like him)Wilmer Font RHPMichael Main RHPRobert Ross LHPMax Ramirez CGuillermo Moscoso RHPRobert Erlin LHP
  19. Bowden just isn't a good fit for Milwaukee being an extreme fly ball pitcher. His 0.32 GO/AO ratio in AAA is a recipe for disaster.
  20. Tell me what you think of my crazy ideas. We start off with a 3 team deal involving the Brewers, Whitesox and Bluejay and the end result is this. Brewers receive Dan Hudson, Gordon Beckham and Shaun Marcum or Brett CecilBlue Jays receive Brett LawrieWhitesox receieve Prince Fielder Then we just need club X whoever that may be (ATL, SDP, SF, TB) to complete my 3 team deal with the Brewers and Arizona. Club X would trade for Corey Hart and provide a SP that we would send with Amaury Rivas to Arizona for Dan Haren. Brewers receive - Dan HarenClub X recieves - Corey HartD-Backs recieve - Amaury Rivas + pitcher TBD In the end our roster would be looking something like this: Gallardo, Haren, Marcum/Cecil, Hudson, Wolf C - Lucroy1B - McGehee/Gamel2B - WeeksSS - Escobar3B - BeckhamLF - BraunCF - CainRF - FA So what do you think? Would that solve all of our rotation problems?
  21. Id prefer Dayan Viciedo over Beckham but that doesnt mean I wouldn't settle for Beckham.
  22. I have no idea why we would have any interest in Matt Sweeney. Matt Moore is a good prospect who is striking out batters at an outrageous rate but hes still only in A+ ball. That would be a very disappointing return when Wade Davis is supposedly on the table.
  23. Could a trade of Prince Fielder and Dave Bush to the White Sox for Daniel Hudson, Dayan Viciedo + some other pieces work for both teams?
  24. The best the Padres can probably offer is a deal centered around Simon Castro. He was the starting pitcher for the world team in the futures game. Corey Luebke could be a nice complimentary piece like Michael Brantley was in the CC Sabathia deal. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/12/7/1190680/san-diego-padres-top-20-prospects
  25. A potential deal with the Giants is becoming more and more unlikely. They dont want to give up Sanchez and would prefer to deal prospects. I cant see them giving up Bumgarner and theres no other ML ready pitching in there system. Plus they seem to be targeting a LH bat now instead. Hopefully the Braves rumors are true. http://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/18135941629
