  1. Keep Prince and trade Corey Hart. Corey already rejected a contract proposal from us but no one ever mentions that. He also has terrible plate disclipline plus is a dime a dozen RH batter. His defense has been extremely suspect so I say trade him while his value is still high. I believe in the offseason we could get a Matt Cain caliber player because I believe that is what was offered to Toronto for Alex Rios who put eerily similar numbers to Corey a year ago. Everyone wants to deal our only LH bat in our lineup which boggles my mind so I say why not trade from a strength and move Gamel to Right or Left Field to replace Hart. IMO Brauns made enough strides in Left that I think he could handle the switch to Right if we decided to move him and from everything ive heard Gamel is athletic enough to make the switch.
  2. I meant we have 1 full year left with JJ before he hits his last season of arbitration. So he has 2 years left is what I meant
  3. If we trade Fielder who replaces him at first base? You're probably gonna say Gamel be he has never played that position before and would be worse defensively than Prince. Plus the guy hasnt even been to AAA yet. How about this for an offseason plan? Resign one of Sheets or Sabathia and keep the rest of the team intact. With the increase in attendance we should be able to afford it with little problem. I dont understand why some of you are so eager to push Prince out of the door when we have one of the best 2-3-4-5 combos in baseball umder contract for the next 2 years atleast so why would you wanna blow it up? Trade Hardy if anyone because we only have 1 more year of arbitration left with him and the demand for short stops is at an all time high. Hardy would be one of the best if not the best short stop in the A.L. so his value is incredibly high.
  4. Can Ray Durham play 3rd at all? I think we got about all we could outa Branyon (hitting .097 in his last 10 games) and Bill Hall isnt an every day player with his .166 BA against RHP
  5. What could we get for Ryan Braun and Corey Hart? How about JJ Hardy and Yovani Gallardo? Whats Manny Parra's value do you think we could trade our entire team that got us winning so we can bring in a bunch of untested prospects? I don't wanna win anymore so lets completely tear down this team! Sorry I couldnt resist... All these Prince trade talks when were in a POSTSEASON HUNT ANNOY ME TO DEATH.
  6. Maddux would be a big upgrade over Bush and would help us gain an extra game or two in the playoff hunt all the while strengthening our bullpen because Bush can be used as a LR guy and McClung can be used as a 7th or 8th inning pitcher before Torres takes over. I gotta believe Gwynn would be enough to get the deal done because he would spark interest in an otherwise dismal time in SD. TGJ will draw people to the ball park just for the nostalga factor not to mention gives them a nice little piece to controll for the next couple years. How cool would it be seeing both the Maddux brothers in the dugout? Not to mention it would be cool to see the future 1st ballot HOFer play in Milwaukee even if its for a couple months
  7. If we can avoid giving them Gamel then I say do whatever we gotta do to get this trade done. Grienke gives us a much need 1-2 punch along with Sheets in the postseason and allows us to maintain our stance as serious playoff contenders after Sheets leaves for free agency while we still have Prince Fielder, Corey Hart, Rickie Weeks and JJ Hardy still under contract. A package of something like this would surely get it done right? LaPorta Escobar / Salome Then 2 of any of these prospects: Gillespie, Cain, Brantley, Gwynn, Irribarren, Nelson, Lucroy, Brewer, Braddock or the Lefties in AAA and AA for Greinke and relief pitcher Losing LaPorta and one of Escobar or Salome would hurt but its the price you have to pay to get serious talent like Greinke. If we give up Escobar that just means we need to resign Hardy to a longterm contract and if we trade Salome that means we need to keep Kendall around an extra year until Lawrie or Lucroy is ready to catch. The other pieces are all replaceable and would be worth parting with for with a legit front of the rotation starter who is under our controll for 2 more years!!!
  8. Great move by Mr. Melvin! He knows Bush and Gross were the weaklinks and he dealt with them appropriately. Once he finds a spot for Turnbow we should see Bush again but it wont bother me the least if we dont!
  9. Im boycotting the Brewers until Turnbow is released.
  10. They shouldve kept Hernan up and did something with Gross. Im sick and tired of seeing him do nothing.
  11. FINALLY!!! I hope Bush is the odd man out when Gallardo returns. A couple more performances like this and I might get my wish.
  12. I never singled any one out but if you're getting all pissy it shows that I touched a nerve. Theres a large majority of people on this site that hate TGJ so much they try to make their opinion of him not being a Major League caliber player a FACT when it's just an opinion. You can take your pecota and whatever projections there are and read em like a bible. The fact is TGJ is a smart team player who does anything to win and you need those type of guys on your team. Ive never seen such a large portion of Brewer fans root so hard against a guy and its sickening. I know personally I'll be rooting for him to prove all you haters wrong during the first 25 games of the season. Congrats Milwaukee and TGJ on a great start to the season!
  13. TGJ shouldn't play at all! He should be sent down to AAA where he belongs. Who needs Defense, Speed, and Clutch Hitting?
  14. Doug Melvin added three former All Stars one being a 3 time Gold Glove winner to a contending lineup. To go with that that he didnt mortage away our future. I dont see whats wrong with that. Not to mention we received 4 early draft picks for losing Scott Linebrink and Francisco Cordero to restock our minor leagues. If Gagne can stay healthy and doesnt have a complete meltdown like he did in Boston our bullpen should be in good shape. Getting extra arms like Riske, Torres and Mota allow Ned to have a shorter leash when Turnbow isnt on. Everyone was down on Jason Kendall when we got him but how bad can he be compared to the junk weve had at catcher here of late? He cant be any worse than first pitch Johnny, Jake Taylor, Henry Blanco or Chad Moehler. The guy had a terrible half season but was playing good with the Cubs. If he can hit like he did when he was with the Cubs I think its a vast improvement. I personally think he can bounce back and will be a decent fill in for the next two years until Salome or Lucroy are ready. Melvin set out and accomplished his goals to rebuild the bullpen, improve our defense and raise the team OBP. Sure I wish we wouldve went after Eric Chavez or Hank Blalock to give us a left handed hitting 3rd basemen to balance our right handed heavy lineup but what we've done should have us in contention till the very end. Overall I give Doug Melvin a B+ considering our budget restraints
  15. Incase you havent noticed theres scandal going on everywhere in sports! Between the Patriots spygate, Kelvin Sanctions at Indiana, and everyone including their wifes roiding up in baseball its refreshing to hear something like this http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/tongue.gif
  16. What time will Talkin' Brewers start today? I wanna make sure I catch it live.
  17. Its definately an interesting idea. Its like a DH for one inning that can only hit once. It seems like a cheap thing to do and stat keepers would hate it. Bellicheck esque is a good way to describe it. If it was done to us Id frown upon it then wish we would do the same thing. I think its one of those things that if its done once it will open the flood gates and in the end would be better if it never happened in the first place! but ya its illegal for a reason so it doesnt matter what I wrote http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/ohwell.gif
  18. I cant wait to hear anything Brewer related on the radio. 2 Oclock cant come soon enough.
  19. If you take a look around the league theres alot of teams that could use Vargas in there rotation. I did a quick skim around and these teams (Phillies, Nationals, Astros, Rangers, Whitesox and the Orioles) would look at Vargas as an upgrade over who they currently have in there 5 spot and in some cases the 4th spot in the rotation. Teams like the Mets, Tigers, Indians and the Redsox could look at him as a LR to start the season and a fill in starter if someone gets injured. Playoff teams need depth at SP and DM knows that. Theres no doubt in my mind that Melvin is gonna get something for Vargas or Bush whether it be a low level prospect of a backup catcher. With the settling of Johan and the Bedard trade nearing an end the phonecalls are gonna start coming in. In reguards to Mota I personally think he is worth a shot when you compare him to the guys on the FA market and who we had in our pen at the time. Mike Maddux must think he can work his magic with him because he does have good stuff. The Brewers have a fascination with power arms like Turnbow McClung etc and Mota fits into that bill. Atleast the money we are giving to Mota is only for a year and looking at the deals we made this offseason his 3+ million salary didnt really have an affect on anything we did. Best case scenario he has a good year becomes a setup guy solidifies our bullpen and becomes a type B free agent. Worst case scenario he plays like last year in NY and we waive him.
  20. The Orioles remind me of the Brewers when we traded Richie Sexson for those 6 players that started to get us over the hump. At this point in time they just need bodies. Chris Capuano Dave Bush Tony Gwynn Jr Derrick Turnbow Hernan Irrabarren Cole Gillespie Chris Capuano and Dave Bush would fit into there rotation. Derrick Turnbow is a major improvement over Greg Aquino which solves there closer problem until Baez and Ray return. TGJ could play every day in center for them and Hernan is there incase they trade Brian Roberts. Cole Gillespie I threw in there because hes a good looking prospect that is blocked by Braun and LaPorta. We in return get a dominant front end of the rotation guy that gives us a nasty 1-2-3 even better than the Mets imo. Adding Bedard makes us a World Series contender instantly Sheets, Bedard, Gallardo, Suppan, Villanueva Gagne, Riske, Torres, Mota, Shouse, Parra and then one of Mclung or Stetter (Lefty or another Turnbow) Weeks, Hardy, Fielder, Braun, Hart, Cameron, Hall, Kendall Gross, Dillon, Counsell, Kapler, Munson We still would have alot of depth with guys in AAA ready to come up. If I'm Doug Melvin I'm throwing that offer infront of them hoping that they bite on it.
  21. 1. Mets 2. Rockies 3. Dodgers 4. Brewers 5. Phillies 6. Cubs 7. Diamondbacks 8. Braves 9. Padres 10. Reds 11. Astros 12. Marlins 13. Giants 14. Cardinals 15. Nationals 16. Pirates
  22. I hardly consider 1 year 5.22 Million Dollars a big contract anymore. Theres no long term attachment and if he has a good year we can bring him back with that 10 million dollar option and if we dont want him so long! To be honest I cant believe we got him for this cheap. 1 year stop gaps of Eric Gagne and Mike Cameron at areas of extreme need. I guess I could throw Jason Kendall in there as well. If they return close to their All Star form this team is gonna win alot of games.
  23. Heres the reasons why Im optimistic about this years BP - Gagne and Mota are Free Agents after the year and players always seem to play better in there contract season. - Torres has admited he didnt show up in shape last year just outa spite for the Pirates organization. He has gone on record on saying that he has lost the weight and is focused on bouncing back this year. I think a change in scenery is exactly what he needs as he bounces back. - Riskes contract is nothing to hefty and all I want outa him to is to be solid and judging by his career numbers thats exactly what he should be. - The main reason I love this years BP is that if everything falls into place Turnbow wont be relied upon in the 7th 8th or 9th inning. We put Turnbow in for middle relief and if he doesnt have it you put in Mota or Torres who has shown in the past he can pitch 2 innings almost any day if you really need him to. IMO this is the deepest pen we've had in a long long time. It has insane potential but at the same time could be a total flop. I remain on the optimistic side. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif CL Gagne 8th Riske 7th Torres MR Turnbow MR Mota Loogy Shouse LR Bush
  24. After the way the Packers blew their chance at the Super Bowl and not being able to watch all the Badger basketball games because of the Big Ten Network. I just want a team I can FOLLOW AGAIN! To deal with my boredom Ive been looking over every team and making there lineups and rotations to see how we stack up against em. Its all I can do as I wait. Ive also been projecting our 2009 lineup and when I think prospects are gonna make it to the bigs. Ive also been looking at every single roster to see who might possible be interested in Claudio Vargas and to see who has any excess catchers that would be an improvement over Eric Munson, Mike Rivera and Vinny Rottino
  25. I can only really think of one of those positions truely shored up for the future. I have to believe Corey Hart will be our Centerfielder in 2009 if LaPorta is ready and Cameron is not brought back. A future outfield of Laporta , Hart and Braun looks very bright. Catcher is a crapshoot. I think Doug really hopes Jason Kendall can bounce back so he can give us 2 years of service till Angel Salome or Jonathon Lucroy are ready. If Kendall fails the FA market next year could have Kenji Johjima on it which looks appealing but I have to believe he will fetch a rediculously high salary which most likely will be outa our budget. Closer is anyones guess. Im hoping Gagne blows up and we get another 2 high draft picks for him. Maybe in this years draft we get a college closer who could make an immediate impact. Otherwise in house options for next year would include David Riske and if we pick up there options Salomon Torres and Derek Turnbow. If I had to make an early prediction it would be that Doug Melvin signs another high risk high reward closer next year if Gagne works out for us.
