  1. I think Hart may lose his starting job pretty soon if he continues to struggle offensively, Edmonds could be getting a lot of playing time in RF. Frankly I prefer starting Edmonds in RF over Hart to begin the season. Maybe the Brewers should consider releasing Hart to save money and add payroll flexibilty.
  2. I totally agree with everyone who said that Suppan should not be in the rotation. Unfortunately his contract is too huge to eat so we probably have to live with Suppan in the bullpen, but frankly I prefer having CV instead. I feel bad for CV should he be sent down because of Suppan. My choice for the rotation thus far, Yo. Wolf, DD, Bush and Narveson, with Parra as sixth man. But I wouldn't mind seeing a rotation of Yo, Wolf, DD, Narveson and Parra, with Bush as sixth man though. Either way I think Narveson should start ahead of Bush and Parra until further notice.
  3. I followed the game from start to finish, great game by the Bucks tonite. They outscored the Hornets every quarter, even when Skiles rested Bogut and Jennings the entire 4th quarter. Salmons has been a great pickup so far, hope they make it 5 in row tomorrow. Go Bucks!
  4. I don't think the Brewers are greedy, to me the pre-arby structure is fair. The Brewers drafted these young prospects, invested sizable bonuses and decent salaries to sign them (especially the high picks), invested resources to develop these young prospects in the minors. If the young prospect develops into a quality major league player, it is only fair for the Brewers to reap some benefit for their investments in terms of pre-arby player salary.
  5. Maybe the experience of losing in an arbitration hearing could give Hart that chip on his shoulder and motivate him to prove his critics wrong. At this point, I don't really care if Hart is offended by criticisms from Brewers management or fans.
  6. Good call NievesNoNo. Wonder if DM reads this forum, that would be really nice.
  7. I think Escobar has better range than Hardy defensively with his superior speed, he probably covers the gaps better than Hardy. I'm optimistic about Escobar's offense, I think he will improve his OBP from last season.
  8. Just read about the DD signing news and I'm fine with it. I think the price is good, glad it's only a one year deal with a mutual option. I think the rotation, the bullpen and the SP depth has improved from last year. With Wolf, DD, Parra, Narveson and Cappy, I think having more lefties in the rotation this year is a good thing. I'm not too worried about the offense, I think it will be as good as last year.
  9. Like others, I'd like to get both. But if I had to choose one, I prefer to get Bedard.
  10. It would be very interesting to watch what results having 3 lefties in the rotation will yield. And if Narveson step ups like last season, there could be 4 lefties in the rotation sometime in 2010. Hopefully Cappy's command is back along with his velocity. I'm keen to watch how he performs in ST before deciding where he goes.
  11. Jack Z is a newbie GM so I agree it is a bit premature to say he is superior to DM, but as mentioned I think he did a better job this year than DM. I think Jack Z deserves lots of credit for helping the Brewers make the playoffs in 2008. The offensive core in 2008 were the cheap young homegrown players drafted by him, and DM wouldn't have been able to pull off the CC trade without the quality prospects JZ had drafted. I think it can be said that without JZ, the Brewers may not have been able to make postseason in 2008. Listening to this recent MLB winter meetings interview, I think explains DM's mindset towards starting pitching which doesn't sound intelligent. Paraphrasing DM, he said that in the past he had looked for guys to give him innings, but now he knows it's not good enough and he now looks for guys to give him quality innings hence Wolf signing. I think his past mindset could explain why he had targeted "innings eater" Suppan and Looper previously, and why he wasn't aggressive in upgrading our SP last offseason. DM basically thought that the offense could carry most of the load which was wrong. Glad that DM has a change in mindset towards starting pitching and I hope he's not done yet in improving our SP. Last pre-season most pundits predicted that the Brewers wouldn't get to postseason due to starting pitching, but DM thought otherwise and we now know who is right. Think I'd be interested to read the pundits' prediction for the Brewers this pre-season. Edit: incorrect link.
  12. To me, Jack Z has done a better job as GM than Doug Melvin this year despite his newbie status. He has proven to be more intelligent and have a better eye for talent than DM. Jack Z also seem to be more creative and hardworking than DM. It's mainly due to Jack Z that we have our key players Prince, Braun and Yo, while DM unwisely splurged on Suppan, assembled a poor rotation resulting in a disappointing 2009 season. For a modest payroll team like the Brewers, I think maybe Jack Z is the better choice for GM than Doug Melvin.
  13. I like Wang and I hope the Brewers sign him. I think he'd make a good SP for the Brewers when he recovers from his injury. Also it'd be nice to have another Asian Brewer since Tomo Ohka.
  14. Yes I know, good deal for the Yanks. I just think that Wolf is not truly the 2nd best FA pitcher.
  15. I think maybe Andy Pettitte is the 2nd best free agent pitcher, considering the division he's in and his consistency in staying healthy with over 200 IPs each year. I think the Mets went hard at him, but as we all know he will only pitch for the Yankees.
  16. I think you may have missed out an expensive, overpaid reliever on the books, David Riske. He will cost the Brewers $4.5M next year plus $250K buyout for 2011, Yucks! I can't imagine him spending the whole of 2010 in the minors at that price.
  17. Interestingly, that would be 3 lefties in the rotation and if Narveson replaces either Suppan or Bush, Yo would be the only righty in the rotation. Can't remember the last time if any, we had this many lefties in the rotation. Frankly I'm very uncomfortable about this deal, 3/27 million is an awfully high price to pay for Wolf in this economy, even the Mets seem to be balking at that price tag. I hope DM doesn't raise the current offer on the table, if Wolf wants more maybe it's prudent for the Brewers to look elsewhere. Sorry but 3/24 is way too high price to pay for DD, no way I'd do it and I sure hope DM don't do it too.
  18. I think FIFA takes into account qualification results too. England did very well in qualification, top their group with 9 wins and 1 loss. Though France and Portugal are ranked ahead, they didn't top their group and qualified through the playoffs. To me, France qualified very unfairly, the Irish were robbed and deserves a re-match. A friend who watched the live world cup draw informed me that it was Beckham who drew USA into England's group, what irony methinks. I think Group G is the toughest. Portugal and Ivory Coast have very solid teams with world-class players like Ronaldo and Drogba. Ivory Coast has the most talented team in Africa. The first match, Ivory Coast vs Portugal will be crucial for either team. Portugal vs Brazil should be interesting too, both Portugese speaking and very close historically. Finally the last team in the group, N Korea. The last time N Korea played in the world cup, they made it to the quarter finals eventually losing to Portugal. The N Koreans outplayed the Saudis to qualify. Their strength is in fitness, stamina and defense, expect them to be tenacious and discipline in defense, attack on the counter.
  19. As a big English soccer fan, I sure hope that Beckham doen't make the team or is buried deep in the bench, nowadays England preforms better without him. I think the toughest group from the draw is Group G, I think Brazil is in for a tough group stage.
  20. Why no mention of Parra in the article? Isn't he not a former top pitching prospect and now cheap major league ready pitcher? And he's a lefty.
  21. The best 10 movies of this decade for me off the top of my head, in no particular order: V for Vendetta Kingdom of Heaven Matrix Reloaded Matrix Revolutions Master and Commander - The Far Side of the World The Da Vinci Code Angels and Demons Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring X-Men Origins: Wolverine 300 I'm also very keen to watch the upcoming Sherlock Holmes movie later this month, hope it's a good one.
  22. There are 3 untouchables in this team -> Yo, Braun and Prince. No way do I want any of these 3 traded this offseason, they are our key players and I want to add another to this mix. My hope is for the Brewers to add another stud SP to complement Yo. A Halliday and Yo combo could really solidify the rotation, and imagine a Halliday and Yo rotation in postseason, we'd stand a good chance to win a playoff series. I still think that Halliday is well within reach (extension included) for the Brewers and an offer of Parra and Gamel is more than sufficient to get it done. Because of the money component and service time, it's a lot cheaper trade wise to get Halliday than Josh Johnson. I really hope DM is working hard on getting Halliday right now, but sadly there's no mention of him talking to the Jays in any of the news outlet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  23. From what I've read, Halliday is well within reach for the Brewers including the extension. Dear Doug Melvin, please do everything you can to get him, I implore you please. We need to add a starting pitcher of his calibre to realistically contend and possibly do better than 2008.
