  1. This move makes perfect sense to me. Jeffress has been clean for over a year, passed multiple independent and league sanctioned tests over that period. Now they management has decided to dangle a carrot in front of him to keep him clean for the long haul. It the half point of the season and they protected him as a reward (while stopping the tests) to show him what staying clean will do for him. Making him a September call-up if he earns it would be a great way to send the young man into the off season. 1 year ago he would have been out of baseball and now he is pitching in the big leagues. If that is not enough motivation for a player to stay clean than nothing is. Also by doing this if he fails another test it will be private and he would still have some trade value vs. being out of baseball on a lifetime ban.
  2. In my opinion this is way off base. Mark A. had the chance to fire Melvin years ago and has had the opportunity many times in between. He runs a major corporation and knows how to choose a leader no matter the industry. I do not feel as though Melvin deserves a gold star or should show up for work without just cause for being terminated at any time. Mark A. could hire numerous recruiting firms, headhunters, leadership coordinators, to lead the search for a new GM if he felt necessary. To say that a man with his net worth and business acumen lacks the foresight to hire a leader is misinformed.
  3. They always cover it up during the Braves series' because some American Indians consider that team name offensive. Same thing as the Redskins protests that seem to happen every year.
  4. You are right, they are two great examples. I was going to edit my post to state that under the new drafting philosophy a player falling to higher demands is not as big of an issue as it was a few years ago, unless they thought they had no chance whatsoever of signing the player.
  5. Except this isn't what happened the Brewers do not get a supplemental pick for Cameron because the didn't offer him arbitration. Cameron walked with no compensation whatsoever. Also you failed to note that Chamberlain and Buchholz slipped to the supplemental round due to contract demands. http://5tooltalk.com/draftorder.html I think that at this point in the teams rebuilding process and in order to stay loyal to fans they will not be selling off proven major leaguers for A and A+ ball mid-tier prospects. It would have a negative return at the gate for the end of the season ticket sales and pre-sales going into the next season.
  6. Sounds great in theory. When does the PAYING crowd get to boo the manager or the coach in the middle of the game. Suppan isn't allowed to pitch every 5 days he was given 2 weeks off to start the season and an 8 day breather in between and still hasn't performed. How long would you keep your job working twice in a month at a rate twice below the median? I agree Suppan took the best deal on the market and we are stuck with it and it could be worse, looking at Big Z and Soriano in Chicago. But if you are willing to make 12 million a year you better be willing to take the criticism that comes along with it as you are cashing those checks, once again it is in not in any way fair to compare a 12MM a year job with a 40-60k a year job, the criteria are different. If you showed up to work and under-performed on any task given to you because of your inability to do your job, both you and your boss would receive criticism too. Another valid point is a very simple one. If Soup was making 300k, 1.2 MM or 4MM this season he would not be starting. So why should fans watch a pitcher who at best case scenario would be league average (if lucky) when better options are clearly available. At this point the signing is not worth debating, he is getting paid either way but with a sunk cost at least the team can move on. This is like last year where the team is willing to eat half of Halls' contract so they play him for a while so the wasted contract doesn't seem as bad.
  7. I was reading a piece from Kevin Goldstein today about how people despise Bryce Harpers' attitude and there was a mention about how Mike Trout is already the number 1 prospect in the Angels organization, and if the draft were today would be a consensus top 10 pick. I bring this up because some people on here were asking last week if the Brewers would have taken him with the next pick. I believe I read that they were sitting on Trout and had some lengthy talks pre-draft.
  8. I am having a hard time keeping track of Chris Dennis versus Khris Davis for the T Rats, throw in Kentrail Davis when looking at the nightly box scores and it gets really confusing for the K Davis. If I have learned one thing in my time in life it is to never trust a man with 2 first names. http://www.brewerfan.net/ViewPlayerProfile.do?playerId=1279
  9. I agree, Braddock has been so dominant for the last year+ that people are immune to his stats. You would see many more posts if he were to have a bad outing than if he has a great one. At this point I think most people just want to see his clock delayed about 50 days and than come in and save the big league club millions of dollars in his pre-arby years. With all of the depth in the minors I think it would be tougher to find a a true closer than it would be to find a #3 or #4. I am not saying that is where he would max out, but to save on a Hawkins or Riske type contract is still 4 million saved.
  10. If you need an I-phone this could be a way to save a lot of money on your monthly bill and allow you to have a personal and business line on the same phone. http://finance.yahoo.com/...hone-app-to-sidestep-att (offset quoted material --1992)
  11. It seems as though there is at least one point per episode that I have to flip off the office because of the antics of Mike. It is cringeworthy had much of a fool they make him be. On the plus side I thought it was hilarious when Kevin was in the background making sexual hand gestures behind Andy and Erin?.
  12. It seems as though your mind is made up so it is barely worth debating this with you but a tremendous upgrade in the depth of the top 3 starting pitchers this year. If fact people think that so much depth is on this roster that one of the starters will be cut or traded. This was not the case last year and pointing out a spot start here and there by 2 teams that had playoff spots locked up a month in advance doesn't prove your point about the Brewers squad this year. It also doesn't include the fact that the Crew could very easily trade for a starter at the deadline. Also to negate Rivas, Rogers, Capuano, Butler, or even Mike Jones is kind off in my opinion . I am not saying that all of them are going to be productive but there is a chance that one of them could easily come up and be league average. Pointing out that a team used x number of starters through a season has no effect on the playoffs when they go down to 3 starters and both of those teams had top offenses. To be more precise 4 of those Yankees starters totaled 26 games (http://en.wikipedia.org/w...k_Yankees_season), and 5 of the Phillies starters totaled 20 starts. If you add Pedro it is 29 and 6, not including the Cliff Lee trade where he got twelve starts making him #7 of your 12. Obviously the Phillies knew their rotation sucked and went out and got 2 new starters. These teams were obviously searching for a way to upgrade their 5.
  13. Except last year Parra was counted on to be the 2 and this year he is fighting for a spot. Davis, Wolf, and the performance of Narveson since last August has greatly improved this teams depth. The depth this year is much greater than last year. LAst year even Yo was a little bit on an unknown at the 1 coming off of that injury. It just seems odd that 2 guys are fighting for the 4 spot while the 5 is set. I agree that it will be hard to get anyone to pick up anything for Suppan but if we can get someone to cover 2 million of his salary , I say we ditch him. Washburn and the other unsigned pitchers will still be asking for more than that so he could make sense to someone at an extremely reduced rate.
  14. Of course people root for Gamel he has been a top prospect for years, if you take out his pinch hitting duties from last year which we all can agree is a tough assignment for a rookie he was a league average third baseman as a rookie. There is no way that Melvin can know that a guy like Casey will become available, make the team, and put up stats like he did. If he had no intentions in giving Gamel a true shot at the position he should have traded him instead of LaPorta as you remember Gamel, Escobar, & Salome were off limits. Now Salome has lost some of his luster and Gamel has lost all of his. In theory they could have traded Salome and Gamel and had LaPorta and Brantley in the OF this year. Back to the point people aren't rooting against Casey but they have invested years in following Gamel and want to see it come to fruition. Remember how people were following every Inman start a few years ago as he was dominating High A.
  15. Everybody has their own opinion on this. Just understand by trading Fielder the Brewers would probably be rebuilding for a couple years down the road. Unless somehow they get a deal they can't refuse that includes Mlb ready prospects. I have a strong feeling that DM won't trade Fielder if 1.) it means they have to rebuild. AND 2.) If it doesn't include top Mlb ready prospects that could help out Immediately. Losing 1 player, even 1 as good as Fielder does not put this team into total rebuild mode. I don't want to get into how advanced the minor league pitching will be this time next year or the potential move of Gamel over to 1st. I would like to point out that when the Rangers got that Tex deal Feliz was not nearly as highly regarded as he is now so it would be nearly impossible to get both Smoak and Feliz for Prince, you cannot say that is the only deal you would accept as it looks as though the Padres turned down a 6-1 deal for Gonzalez because they were holding out for a 7th player.
  16. I would never wash a hat, I generally won't wear a hat out until it has 6-12 months of wear and tear on it. I like my hats to look like they have seen better days. To me it shows how long you have been following the club. As a sidenote a great way to break in a hat and stretch it out is to wet the bill and lining and microwave it for 30 seconds, it will formfit you head in a few times.
  17. I remember seeing on PTI when Mack Brown got his latest extension that the Texas athletic program made about 74 million last year and the 2nd highest earning team in the nation made about 40 million. These are not exact figures but are in the ballpark, I just remember that they almost double any other school in the nation. You always want more money that they are raking it in already.
  18. I agree, my only point was that Parra alone would not get you that type of player. The best trade the Brewers could do straight up for Parra would be a change of scenery deal.
  19. That's my point why would another team trade their sure-fire frontline starter for Parra. It wold be like trading a Sega Genesis for a PS3.
  20. Quick question is Parra a sure-fire frontline starter? If not how could he be traded for one? Now if you want him traded for a guy that has untapped potential like Parra I agree. Maybe someone like Aumont this year or Edwin Jackson last year.
  21. This won't work for you but it was one of the best times I ever had at a wedding reception. One of my old roommate's eloped and had a reception at the Hinterland near downtown (http://www.hinterlandbeer...html). For what they wanted it was a perfect venue they covered all wine and micro's, had a dessert bar, sampling station, cake. appetizers, chocolate fountain. Instead of having a sitdown dinner they had a lot of grazing stations and rented a "Jack Johnson" type to play live music. It was a great time for all of us because it was so care free and without restrictions. As soon as we showed up we were greeted by the couple given a drink and told to just enjoy the evening. There was none of the normal wedding stress.
  22. This guy is not a Brewers prospect but I was wondering how many of you guys remember this guy and how he was the hot pickup in fantasy leagues 5-6 years ago the way Amezaga was this year. Bo Hart http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_Hart. He set the league on fire the first 2 weeks of the season covering for an injured player. I thought it was Eckstein but I am wrong.
  23. While I think this article is ridiculous as Braun has put up numbers to start his career that are only comparable to Pujols, the writer is actually very knowledgeable. I don't agree with many of his assertions or opinions he always has plenty of data and reasoning to back up his premise. He posts a lot over at brewcrewball and I believe he was an area scout for 5 years or so. He kind of reminds me of how 804Sox is here with some rather crazy ideas like this one that the Brewers generate over $240 million in revenue every year. http://www.brewcrewball.c...205515/show-us-the-money Thinking that most teams make $60 million in profit each year but a team like the Rangers is sold for what $570 doesn;t add up. Anyways Braun was a monster his rookie season and it shouldn't have even been close as to the vote. When he came up the whole team changed, plus he hasn't had a down year yet while Tulo has.
  24. RyDogg, you are correct. I was talking solely about debt collection agencies. If the account is sent to a law firm it is a totally different story, I would assume that only the most recoverable of debts are sent straight to litigation instead of to a debt collection agency. As I stated I was one of only 9 people out of 500 that could actually send the accounts to an attorney because it was better paper. Most of the loans get resold 4-5 times and just end up getting written off by every company that buys the paper.
  25. Thanks, also there are several other laws that most people don't know, I will give you a few. 1. You should record all phone calls with a debt collector because they cannot cross certain lines; if they do and you have it on tape your outstanding bill will be negated and you will be compensated. For instance if they say they will sue you, or send someone to your house to collect the money in person they are breaking the law. This is what I found on a quick search http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/ed...onsumer/credit/cre27.pdf ( it is called the fdcpa) Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. 2. If you talk to someone about a debt once during the day they cannot call you again that day unless you give them permission. So if you are sick of getting calls 10 times a day all you have to do is answer the first call and say talk to you tomorrow. If they call back and you have the first call recorded or can prove the conversation somehow, they broke the law and are liable for the bill and compensation.
