  1. I am skeptical of this statement. A credit card is a contract. If they CC company establishes you signed a contract where you were provided a line of credit for a promise to repay and you breach the contract I believe they can sue you under breach of contract, take a judgment, and then docket the judgment against any property you may owe.You can be skeptical if you wish but I was a debt collector when I first graduated from college about 7 years ago. If you ever talk to a debt collector they will hint that they can sue but will never state it directly. They will say things like further steps will have to be taken or we will pursue other alternatives. They will never say that you will be sued unless you actually will. I worked with a group of 9 people out of an office of 500 that could actually sue people for outstanding credit card bills and these were the highest balanced and highest credit rated accounts that also had a provision written into the contracts about lawsuits mostly from American Express (It is called an LTO (legal talk off). As I stated a credit card is an unsecured or signature loan and it falls off your credit in 7 years of your last payment. Also the checks you get in the mail that all you have to do is sign the back is the same thing. All you have to do is sign the back and avoid phone calls for seven years. A store like American can do that because their contracts are different with no payments until 2012 and such but almost all credit cards are not. The same thing happens with mortgages where the note is resold and the new servicer of the account never actually acquired the original note. Edit: Almost missed the main point: You are talking about collateral (http://en.wikipedia.org/w...ollateral_%28finance%29) and has to be specifically written into a loan agreement in order to be allowed to be recouped. This is not the same with outstanding taxes for a house or outstanding fees to a contractor on housework, just for credit cards. I have worked in the finance industry for about 7 years so I think my comprehension of the issue is adequate but if you find anything to prove me wrong I would appreciate the knowledge.
  2. That all makes sense, at that point I would rather just wait out the 3 years and have it fall off of your report altogether than pay it off and have it on your report for 7 more years. Collection agencies generally don't have your credit report just a Twentile Score, most times you can better a deal than 80% it just depends on who the collector that is in charge of your account is. Once your loan has been through more than 1 collection agency they are buying it for 10 cents on the dollar. Also these guys work on commission which is why you will see them calling a lot more the last few days of the month as they try to meet their quota which is a great time to get a good deal if you want a settlement.
  3. No you don't any credit card bill falls off of your report after seven years w/o a payment. Making a payment 2 years in only resets the clock. If you do neglect your bills and want to settle them up you can generally do it at 40-50% of the price they demand. But if it is a lagging bill that is 4 years out and you pay it; it will still be there for 7 more years but if you neglect it; it will be gone in 3. Thought I would delve into this deeper. This is no personal guarantee on a credit card or a normal loan from a bank. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Signature_loan. They cannot take a lien against anything you own unless you signed it away in the docs. It is an unsecured loan which is what got banks into this situation in the first place. Unless your loan docs say they can sue you they cannot and it is under about 8% of all CC loans that state that.
  4. Not to belabor the point but if your credit was ruined because of a divorce or something similar all you have to do is provide an LOX (letter of explanation). The other thing you can do is take a settlement on the outstanding fees. Normally you can settle for 40 cents on the dollar max so this could have cleared up your credit long ago. As a sidenote "Lets say you haven't payed a credit card in 2 years. if you make a payment it resets the clock and it will stay on your credit for 7 more years. If you don't make a payment it is a negative for 5 more years but than disappears." Sometimes the best idea is to avoid an issue
  5. You are correct but we also have to remember how few comp picks we had available during Z's tenure. I do not think we had a single comp pick until 2 years ago (too lazy to do the research). Also the extra spending on draft picks that fell (Del Howell) didn't start until after the draft and follow process was terminated. It is not like the crew could grad a Joba or a Bard with the extra comp pick. They had 1 pick per round and had to make it work. The Laporta pick was a stretch in my view and that turned into a huge gain for the team.
  6. The big lug comment wasn't about you, moreso a perceived notion about Angel's lack of effectiveness lately that has been passing around the board and my point still stands hiandtight. Until you provide insight that has more authority than the Coach I don't want to hear your drivel. It is that simple. You have not earned any credibility on this board and have no worth to spout off the way you feel you are entitled too. It is that simple you are calling out a well respected member of this board and the baseball community and back it up with nothing more than conjecture. If you would have read through previous threads to know what you were talking about or even maybe told us why you feel the ability to bash respected members than feel free. Personally I could care less what you have to say; you are trying to discredit Salome, because you can't believe their times. Well who the heck are you? What do you know about times and rehab that make you the authority? You refused to answer my question what do you do all day that makes you so qualified to call out a respected member of our community? I am not rooting either way but you can approach a comment to a respected poster without being so condescending.
  7. Some of you guys should be ashamed of yourselves for the way you treat the posters on this board. Who made you the all high and mighty? How can any of you even claim to have more insight than a guy that has coached one of the Brewers top prospects for almost a decade? You guys base your knowledge on some supposed insider reports and a few articles and have the audacity to criticize Coach who sees them train every day. If anyone would be critical of a player it would be his coach which; which shockingly he has been several times and stated that he is overcoming those obstacles. I am not pro Salome or LuCroy but I am pro-catcher which I believe the Brewers spent something like the 3rd-4th most in the entire league on last season for Kendall production and feel either would be an upgrade this next season. As for Hiandtight trying to discredit Coach I am more than leery for several reasons. Other than that how many pop times does he cover? How many world class track athletes has he worked with in order to discredit one of the most valued voices on this board? What has he done in 20 posts that makes his negativity worth more than a strong presence from a man who has always been straight-forward on this board? I am sick of this negativity towards people in the know. Some of you should spend some time at orioleshangout.com and see how much they respect and appreciate inside knowledge instead of peeing all over it and pretending you know better. Of course Coach is biased towards Salome at some level. He has known the kid for almost a decade and watched him grow from a boy to a man and into one of the top talents in the Brewers system. As some of you that have memories longer than 4 months will remember they refused to trade him, Gamel, or Escobar in the C.C. trade. Some insiders wrote that this meant that the Crew thought LaPorta was overrated in the baseball community and the Brewers agreed. Salome could have been the top prospect given in that trade and the management decided to hold onto him. Also being biased doesn't preclude Coach from being Salome'[s biggest critic "which has happened on occasion" Coach has named several faults that he Salome has improved over the offseason and also stated that he had a renewed workout routine. Yet many of you take this as conjecture and berate the man that gives us more insight into the prospects in 30 seconds than Haudricourt does in an offseason. Some people on this board act as if Angel got all the way to AAA because Coach made it happen. Come on this guy knows talent and does not have the time to hype and promote players he doesn't believe in. And I never saw a negative comment towards LuCroy as some would like to propegate but instead asked for an open and free opportunity for all players to participate as anyone else would want. http://www.youtube.com/wa...mvrk&feature=related
  8. I would much rather hear first hand observations about the players from someone who sees the game on a daily basis and knows these guys personally than hear another long winded observation about how good Angel Salome's defense is based on Don Money quotes and snippets in articles because none of us have ever seen the guy play. Obviously Agent39 cannot comment directly on trades and rumors while they are in negotiations, this is his job he doesn't come to your job and ask for the 11 herbs and spices that creates the famous "finger lickin' good" chicken. What is he supposed to say? "Player X wants to be involved in the deal to the Indians because he feels the medical staff mishandled an elbow injury last year and his Aunt Marge lives there." Several times we have wondered why a player was missing from the box score for a few games and the only way we found out about the handling of a player was through Agent39. In my opinion this one circumstance was not handled the best and could have been easily handled by stating that Brewer was at a crossroads in his life and wanted to see what his options were. Either way the piling on reminds me of a 4 year old kid crying at the grocery store because his mom won't let him get a candy bar. No one owes us anything, and no one should be lambasted for providing first hand knowledge and opinions while others on this board can spout off nonsense for what seems like hours on end based on UZR and statistical equivalents without being able to tell you if Mark Rogers is albino, eskimo, or Haitian.
  9. Why I am not more excited about Arnett? I have never seen him pitch but I have read a lot of the reports out there and for some reason I just haven't warmed up to the pick. This has nothing to do with his performance this year after he signed and I commend him for getting into the fold and onto the field so quickly. I realize he wasn't using his slider after the innings logged for IU this year. Maybe it is because he had so much helium before the draft. Even though he could have gone 10-11 spots earlier to the Indians just months before the draft he was predicted as a 5th round pick, and before the season started he didn't even know if he was going to get drafted. I am not concerned about the innings he pitched in college in his final year as it seems as though he kept his pitch counts down except for 2-3 games. Is it because he and Heckathorn are so similar? I like the Davis, D'vo, Howell, Gennett picks, but cannot figure out why I am not hyped on this pick. It could be because I liked the Z formula of taking someone that is the best at something (power, fastball, curve, speed, whatever). Other than that the only thing I can think of is that Seid was sitting on Trout and he got snapped up one pick before ours and went on to tear it up this season. I believe that Arnett was top on the board at the pick but if Trout was there it would have changed our draft, no Davis and another pitcher in the supplemental. What am I missing why? I know I should be more excited about this pick but I am not. Edit: I realize that you cannot always draft someone with the best tools at a certain position, it could be that I am looking for the upside that normally comes with a first rounder and can't see where the growth is going to come from. Arnett is pretty much maxed out physically he doesn't have to grow into his body. I like the pick more than I would have liked getting Aumont a few years ago, I just don't know why I am not sold on it.
  10. My thoughts on Braddock are simple, everyone is high on him but we are unsure of how he is viewed in the larger plan. A dominant reliever that could take over the closer role the year after next is fantastic, but a starter coming up that could be converted later ala Hughes, Joba is a bigger focus in the dire straights of the pitching staff. We all know Braddock has the stuff and at this point watching him dominate is more of an expected outcome than a surprise. We know what he is going to do and he does it twice a week. I would rather see the Brewers try to stretch him out next year and see if he can perform as a starter than waste a year of service time as a reliever and give him the McClung treatment. Braddock like Gamel as a young player should be told what their role in the organizational depth chart and what the plans are to advance them up the ranks. I am a big proponent to setting goals and deadlines that people and players need to set and achieve to advance.
  11. Just saw this thread I have the full game worn Sheets uni in the white pinstripe.
  12. I know I am different than most but I have never and will never wear a hat backwards as I feel it causes a lack of respect to them the team. I know that many MLB players do it but no matter what level of ball I played at would I ever wear a backwards hat. That is just me though, I also will not wear a gimmick not gameworn hat.
  13. Yep, you caught me Trevor time is cool. That is why I started smoking in 8th grade and started drinking in 9th. Always trying to hang out with the cool kids. Let's be real, if this team spent all of this money on the rotation and didn't have a closer all of these games would get blown. Remember how tough it was when we thought Gagne was our closer, how about Mike Adams, Turnbow anyone? The team got lucky and traded Kolb. If you really feel as though a reliever that had an ERA of 1.83 and was 5th in the league in saves even though he missed over a month of service time is a waste of space, than I think we have different views as to how close this team is to achieving. Correct me if I am wrong but I have never seen a contending team give the closer role to a player that had never performed in any circumstance in MLB, but yet this makes sense to you. We could bring up the young guns and teach them the situation while bridging the gap to 2011. Name one guy that could outperform a 1.83 and prove why he could and I will eat my words. Ask the Phillies what they would pay for Hoffman during the stretch run, that is how I determine value. Maybe it's just me but I will take my chances with one of the top 2 closers in MLB history at the reported 8M.
  14. Compared to dropping 10 M on Gagne for a year whatever Hoffman signs for is great. From all accounts he likes Milwaukee but more importantly doesn't want to move again, this gives him 3 options: Padres w/ the new GM if they want him and trade Bell, Brewers, retire. Options 1 & 3 are not going to happen. I would gladly have him back for another year to bridge the gap until one of the young guys (hopefully Braddock) steps up and takes the spot. The Brewers have a ton of options for this winter and basically everyone is on the block, I believe that next years team will have some extreme changes in it. One way or another they are going to probably get a C, RF, 2 SP, and some relief pitching. I just hope this little hot streak at the end of the season doesn't entice them to bring Kendall back.
  15. There is a better chance that Yunel or Kelvim Escobar are acquired by the Brewers and traded than the possibility of Alcides being traded anytime in the near future. The OPS is a little low in theory but everything else is ready. No way he gets traded this offseason, it has been stated that J.J. has been playing so much because of all of the scouts that want to see him in person.
  16. Exactly, the Twins overplayed their hand. Those Santana negotiations went on for months and the teams had standing offers sitting out there forever so they pulled them back. Even if one were to believe that the best offer for Santana was from the Mets it is still not a good comp because of the no-trade and a demand for a new contract. I believe that a better comp for a Prince trade would be the Bedard deal. Bedard had 2 years left and does not have a no trade. Bédard was traded to the Seattle Mariners in a 5 for 1 deal sending outfielder Adam Jones and pitchers George Sherrill, Tony Butler, Chris Tillman and Kameron Mickolio to the Orioles. I am not saying that the package will turn out the same way but it least it matches up closer, a near Cy Young winner vs. a near MVP. We all agree that Prince has as much value as Holliday. Holliday for a half season was worth Brett Wallace so Prince for 4 halves of a season is equal to 4 Brett Wallace's. [/sup]
  17. First of all, the Santana trade is a horrible basis for this conversation, Santana had a no trade clause and demanded a new contract, this limited him to 3 teams being in the bidding (Mets, Yankees, Red Sox). As most of us are aware the trade offer from the Mets was the worst one on the board but the Twins overplayed their hand. By the time the deal was done the other 2 teams had either dropped out of the bidding altogether or significantly reduced their offers. http://www.mlbtraderumors.../12/latest-johan--2.html Joe Christensen of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune has the latest buzz surrounding the Johan Santana trade talks. The Red Sox and Twins talked yesterday, and the Twins are leading toward Jacoby Ellsbury rather than Jon Lester. Jed Lowrie and Justin Masterson would also be included, and the sides are trying to figure out a fourth player. That is a lot nicer package than the one that the Twins actually received. Fans of other teams are undervaluing Prince. Below are Prince's #'s for the past 3 years vs. Manny Ramirez for 4 years including the 2 years that the Red Sox won the World Series. Ask a Sawx fan how much value Manny had after they won that first championship and that is how much value Prince has now. Even though people see his stat line through fantasy baseball they still don't understand the true value of Prince because they don't see him play on a daily or a weekly basis. I assume this is why we are still hearing about how bad Prince's defense is even though anyone who has watched the games knows this is false. I used Ramirez as a reference because it matches up with perceptions of offense first players whose D is a liability. 18. I have one in the basement that I never use. I would give you a deal on it, the only thing is I do not know the size of it. I got it from one of those U-Haul auctions years ago.
  19. I don't follow the draft as close as many but try to be very knowledgeable. I wanted Moustakas but his value was skyrocketing before the draft. Heyward was my #2, I felt like Laporta was a stretch but he soon justified his position. Too bad we didn't get one of those San Fran pitchers. At least they didn't take Aumont.
  20. It is a job and it is a game. If these men did not get paid to do this for a living at a healthy sum they would find other things to do with their talents. Do you have a problem with kids getting candy on Halloween? How about what the Yankees do when they hit a walk off, and everyone dives at the helmet like a bridal bouquet? How about the Cavs last year with all of their antics in the playoffs? Yes, the Brewers had a disappointing season but should that stop them from trying to keep other teams out of the playoffs? If you don't like the way the season is going take your ball and go home. I am a huge fan of the history of baseball but I am sick of this uber-sensitive junk we have to hear. The crew was on ESPN, Deadspin, JS, and whatever else for enjoying themselves one time in the course of 162.
  21. I would bet that any upgrade that the Crew gained in OBP they would lose two-fold in defense. It is a tough decision because right now Weeks is still probably 5th or 6th in HR on this team and I want him back. I just don't want to see him turn into a Brandon Phillips as soon as he leaves. If he turns it on and a prospect is ready than his value will be maximized. Lopez has been so good while he has been here it is tough to just let him go, but with the picks that are available, hopefully it works out. But to stay on topic, with how many changes this team will see next year keeping Cam would be great, especially if we could get him at 70% of his contract. With changes at SS, C, 3B confusion, and maybe doing something in RF, having Cam in center would be great.
  22. I have this irrational hate for Jerry Garcia and his grill tips (Not Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead). I'm not sure what bothers me more: Him, or the fact that he annoys me so. ---------------------------------------------------------- It's not just you, that guy walks around like he owns the world. I have a lot of better ways to describe but will not waste a strike on such a waste of space with a soul patch. I know him on a business level as he took over at the Hotel Metro a few months ago, one of the biggest downfalls for restaurants downtown and I work for a food service company. Needless to say that he actually believes that you can get better produce and meet at the Pig than companies that actually provide for the industry. I would suggest if you ever meet him personally to kick him in the shin and walk in the other direction without starting a conversation. But thanks for teaching me how to cook a hamburger with blue cheese on it. Otherwise I would be lost. (edit: shortened "---------" to hopefully eliminate horizontal scrolling --1992)
  23. Am I missing something here. I read the posts but could have missed someone else bringing up this point. MA already turned down a Harang for Hardy deal before the deadline because of the salary implications next year. If we cannot get Harang for Hardy how could we ever get him for Hall. Like I said if I missed this I apologize. On top of this good luck in Seattle Bill, he just didn't have it anymore and when you have a guy on your team making that kind on money that is best case 3rd on the depth chart he has to go. Even some salary relief at this point is a great get, saving that cash is like getting Kentrail Davis for free.
  24. Yeah if only he didn't smoke all of that meth earlier, there is no way he would beat a random person with a lead pipe while trying to break into a house. We all get mad at one point or another but I will assume that most of us have never beaten a stranger with a lead pipe. This is just ridiculous to claim it is anyone elses fault but the assailant. Why wasn't he allowed to see his kid in the first place? Did it have something to do with his record? I am not saying the kid was high but come on, you cannot beat random people with a pipe and expect to get away with it.
  25. http://brewersbeat.mlblog...o_sign_scooter_genn.html Davis is eight inches shorter than the 6-foot-5 Hall, a power right-hander. He threw a perfect game this season for T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, S.C., in which he struck out 12 batters on 76 pitches and reportedly didn't throw a pitch below 90 mph. Hall also sports a quality slider. --------------- I am extremely happy with the philosophy of taking the best player available throughout the entire draft and being able to sign the top 23 picks. I know that Hall is extremely talented and threw the perfect game this year, but one would have to assume if this statement is true from this blog than he threw a perfect game without throwing anything but a fastball.
