  1. There were a few in my section (122) but I didn't really hear a large amount overall.
  2. I think Mark has done well as owner but I never liked the fact we had an out of towner running the show. The team is struggling, big series against the Cards and our owner is....where??????????
  3. Yup. Number of DP's Kendall has hit into this year... ZERO. And yes he ended up hitting a grounder. But it's a whole different situation with two outs and runners on second and third than bases loaded and one out. Pitchers pitch differently and batters have a different approach at the plate.
  4. Big four game series against the first place team, 3 sellouts. Important games to be sure. Too bad our owner couldn't find time to jet in and actually be here to watch his team play. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=353945#p353945 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=10651
  5. Calculated one year gambles are fine for some teams. But when a team has a very small window, one year without a closer is devastating.
  6. Blancofan, you are correct. Most teams do have the "acknowledge" sign, the batter has to give a sign back before the third base coach sends the runner. So either Yost is too stupid to do it that way or Sveum was too stupid to look for Kendall giving the sign. Either is very plausible.
  7. Hard to argue with success. Less revenue than we do, crappy stadium and two titles.
  8. He had good training when he was younger http://www.virginmedia.com/images/gruesome_clockwork_431x300.jpg
  9. Better production, HD broadcast and a big comeback win. Hard to beat that. The other director can go back to videotaping weddings.
  10. Well the new director started tonight and I didn't notice any real problems. Once he switched to the third baseman on a pickoff attempt but no big deal. And we didn't see the balk live. But at least we didn't have the usual 15 missed plays.
  11. I like Showalter but he didn't show very good judgment when he let Costanza talk him into changing the Yankee uniforms to cotton.
  12. McClung as a stop gap for a start or two is fine. Beyond that we either call up someone (or more than one) or deal. And I can't see Doug making any deals yet.
  13. Melvin was on 1250 a little while ago. No "big" news. He said he was considering having McClung make a start. He said that he is having a meeting with Yost and the coaching staff "after this weekend" to determine whether any changes need to be made and whether any changes would be made "internally" or "externally". He didn't sound like a guy who was pondering making a change in managers.
  14. Yeah Harv was the hitting coach, the team wasn't hitting and he got the promotion http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Buck never even got a full season (took over for Bamberger after Bambi's heart attack in '80, strike shortened 81 and fired part way through 82). Dalton felt Buck was way too intense and felt a veteran group like the '82 team could benefit from the mellow Harvey. Of course Harvey only lasted on full year himself before we started the Rene Lacheman era.
  15. I doubt that anyone thinks replacing Ned is a magic cure and a guaranteed playoff berth. But you have to start somewhere. Simmons has never managed at any level, never coached either until this year. Windmill Dale would be horrible. If we have to promote a current guy I'd take Sedar over them. Kremblas would be a good move too. If we want a Davey how about Davey Nelson? Getting him off of FSN might be worth it.
  16. The way it's set up now it will be Suppan, Bush and CV in Boston. God Help Us.
  17. You are absolutely right. It's not just Bush. But he's the worst of the worst. You have to start somewhere.
  18. I find the argument that he can't possibly stay this bad the whole season less than a compelling reason to keep him in the rotation. I'll have to look at the old threads but I guess all of you Bush fans were blasting Melvin for sending him down to Nashville when it was obvious we should have kept him in the rotation due to inevitable "regression to the mean". After all his ERA was only 6.75 when he was sent down. And you must have been livid about Turnbow. There was a whole lot of regression waiting to happen with him. Maybe Bush is the best we have for that spot in the rotation. I'm willing to look at other guys. Some of you aren't. I guess if we all have the same opinion there would be no need for this board. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  19. I don't know how anyone can argue that Bush should stay in the rotation and that we shouldn't at least try some other guys in his spot. It's not like he's 22 or 23 and has potential. Maybe you saw him in the dugout tonight with his hand grips and were impressed. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/laugh.gif
  20. That's a good point. If Melvin waits until after the season he can blame the whole thing on Yost, hire a new manager, and keep his job another year. If he fires Yost in May and we don't improve, he could be gone as well. But Attanasio could get an itchy trigger finger and tell Doug that Nascar has to go.
  21. Weaver was crap last year no doubt and he might be crap again this year. But I'm sick and tired of hearing how Bush is an "innings eater" and he's "scrappy". It's crappy not scrappy. Parra is not immune here either. A spot in the rotation is not a season long guarantee. Last year we had a couple of hot prospects ready to come up and pitch. This year we really don't. But to me the real white flag is leaving the rotation as it is.
  22. I guess I don't quite follow you rluzinsk. If Weaver "gets lucky" and pitches well up here in a couple of starts he goes into the rotation. If he then gets shelled we remove him from the rotation at any time. Meanwhile we've won a couple of games we would have lost with Bush. This is DAVE BUSH we are talking about here, not Brandon Webb. He's given up 24 earned runs in 29 innings. I'm sorry but that doesn't give us a 40% chance of winning. I would gladly take a couple of "lucky" starts by anyone over sending this clown out there again. And this isn't even really about Jeff Weaver. It's about settling for a guy with a 6.98 ERA as one of our starters. If you are satisfied with Bush, ok, that's your opinion. I'm not satisfied and I'm willing to try someone else because 6.98 is not acceptable.
  23. So you let him replace Bush for a couple of starts. The worst that could happen is he gets rocked, we lose those two games and he gets released. Those are 2 games we would have lost anyway with Bush. At best (and yes it's a long shot) he pitches well and if he earns incentives for pitching well the rest of the season, that's fine with me. I wish every player had an incentive based contract.
  24. Agreed. In season you pretty much have to pick from your current staff. I'd still like to see an experienced, winning manager in here after this season. It will cost some money but well worth it, IMO.
