  1. It all starts at the top. Garry Howard is the most worthless sports editor of any major paper.
  2. The 7:00 weeknight start time is a balance between trying to give people enough time after work to get to the game and not making it too late of an evening. For many years weeknight games started at 7:30. For Saturday night games they found that 6:00 was also a good balance. It allowed people to have the whole day to do stuff and the games end early enough to be able to go out and do stuff after the game. As for noon vs. 1:00 on getaway days, it is as described above. Noon during April and May to accommodate school groups. They toyed for awhile with having some 3:00 starts on weekdays like the Scrubs do but decided against it.
  3. Exactly. If a player (or his agent) wants to take their complaints public, then the public can react however they please. Hall's agent was all over the radio yesterday doing interviews. I think most fans are fine with a player wanting to play every day. However when they cross over to the wanting to be traded side and have their agent do radio interviews, they get what's coming to them.
  4. Kendall was brought in mostly for the way he handles a staff. Any offense we get out of him is gravy. And no one expected him to improve his throwing as much as he has. That's gravy also. Our staff absolutely hated throwing to Estrada last year. While Rivera does show some good stick I doubt he can call a game as well as Kendall does. That said I do think he needs to get in more often.
  5. I was there last night. I didn't boo but I certainly understood why people did. On the flipside Johnson commented after the game about the "classy fans" (the entire crowd) who gave him a standing ovation when he was removed from the game. As for the comment above "fans seem more concerned about booing Bill Hall, than cheering on a guy like McClung", there was plenty of cheering for McClung. It isn't an either/or dynamic. Cameron heard boos too. Hall is lucky has a guaranteed contract. In most professions if you can't do your job you lose that job and the paychecks stop. I can't believe that players (and people here) are so thin skinned about some booing to the point where they are "upset" and "concerned". Booing has been around since the beginning of sports.
  6. Wow, I can't believe they didn't show that. I was at the game last night, sitting a few rows behind the DBacks dugout. The standing O was great, Johnson tipped his cap to the crowd. He also got a nice ovation after his first K when he surpassed Clemens. Surprisingly Robb Edwards didn't even make an announcement about it. They had it on the scoreboard briefly but even then it was on the black and white part and mixed in with the regular lineup screen. Weird.
  7. It should be interesting to hear the reception Billy gets tomorrow night.
  8. I agree, if Weaver pitches semi well in his next start they will give him a look before the June 15th deadline.
  9. I agree, especially if McClung gets shelled out there on Tuesday night. If you only have 4 good starters and you can get by with 4 starters, that's what you do. It will be interesting to hear Yost's reasoning for not doing it.
  10. We can debate stats back and forth all day but, like it or not, this is a popularity contest. Braun is more popular to me than the others, so he gets my vote. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  11. Every professional athlete makes a ton of money compared to the average fan. I think even a "layman" would understand it's smart to take an extra $52 million. But I agree there are some that are too dumb to understand that, and hence the boos.
  12. Agreed Jazzy. Sheffield was a turd but I can't boo other players who have been traded or left for a lot more money.
  13. When you vote for Braun, don't vote for any other outfielders who will be his main competition (Soriano, Fukudome, etc).
  14. We offered Lee a 4 year, $48 million deal that we knew he wouldn't take. Houston gave him a 6 year, $100 million deal. This isn't a Coco Cordero difference, the difference is over $50 million. As for DD, he absolutely should get applause but there will be knuckleheads who boo.
  15. The pitch he hit today for a homer may have been a ball but he had two strikes, can't really blame him for swinging.
  16. Good thing the FSN crew didn't handle the broadcast of yesterdays shuttle launch.
  17. It's interesting the T-shirt question came up. A guy sitting in front of me last night asked an usher about that. The usher said he hadn't heard anything about someone getting kicked out and he said that nothing has ever been said in their meetings about it.
  18. The booing was definitely for taking Sheets out. When Ned was introduced before the game there were maybe a couple of boos but not many.
  19. ???? I was behind the Astros dugout looking directly at the home run. There was no "glare" at all. It was just another screwup by FSN.
  20. I was sitting behind the Astros dugout, that ball just kept going and going and going. I recorded the game and was looking forward to seeing it again. Oops.
  21. I was at the game tonight so I didn't see the FSN/WMLW broadcast but I understand they didn't show Branyan's homer to the Dew Deck? Incredible.
  22. Just back from the game. That was some damn shot The Muscle hit. Did FSN really not show it? How the hell could that have happened?
  23. Very generous offer from the most intelligent member of this board. I'm in http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  24. Well at least there's a wildcard.
  25. They have until June 15th so at some point they might as well give him a start, even though he hasn't earned it. I'd throw him out there instead of McClung next week and see what happens.
