  1. Along those same lines, I think starting all 16 games is another mental hurdle to be cleared for Rodgers. At the same time, I don’t put a lot of stock in the chemistry being built over the last few weeks because a new coach is going to come in and put their own stamp on the team.
  2. I’m not an old man and think having therapy animals on campus during finals is silly. It’s not a good look for Millenials. That being said, if it helps kids avoid relying on drugs, alcohol, or nicotine to cope with stress then I’m OK with it.
  3. I really thought the NFC would be loaded this year. List of disappointing teams in descending order: - Eagles - Vikings - Falcons - Packers - Panthers - 49ers
  4. This is why: Josh Gordon suspended indefinitely for violating terms of conditional reinstatement The Patriots make a lot of low risk, high reward moves that don’t work out. Two examples that immediately come to mind are Ocho Cinco and Martellus Bennett (the second time). We just tend to forget about these bad moves because 1) the risk is minimal and 2) they still win a lot.
  5. I’m a little bummed the Ravens are bringing John Harbough back. I thought he’d be a good fit in Green Bay.
  6. Wouldn’t it be nice to play the other AFC East teams 6 times per year like the Patriots?
  7. I came on BF to complain about Zook, but you beat me to it. Still a fun game, though. Always good to get the W.
  8. My colleague’s cat is being put down. She was in tears earlier today. I’m not particularly close with this person, but we have a good work place relationship. What’s the etiquette in this situation? Do I send a card?
  9. My thoughts exactly. Save as much as you can using low-cost equity index mutual funds then pay to consult a JD / CPA around age 50 to discuss a distribution strategy. This is appropriate for most people. Wallus - just curious, do you consult an accountant or attorney when managing your rental income?
  10. There’s nothing wrong with target date funds. If there’s a knock on them, it’s that they come with an extra layer of fees (since most are a fund of funds) and they’re really ‘one size fits most’ not ‘one size fits all.’ But if you’re contributing to a target date fund at a healthy clip, you’re probably setting yourself up for a successful retirement. I personally don’t use them because they aren’t aggressive enough for my risk tolerance. I already have a fixed income component in the form of a small pension and cash value life insurance, so I prefer my 401(k) to be 100% equities.
  11. I give Matthews credit for staying healthy all season. I wouldn’t mind having him or Cobb back next year ... just at 1/3 of their current price.
  12. He would be on IR if the Packers signed him, but this game came down to 5-6 plays and none involved Mack who's sacks were non factors in the outcome. You’re right - he probably would be on IR right now if he were a Packer. And the Packers had chances to win despite the plays that Mack disrupted, but he’s still a difference-maker.
  13. I didn’t have a problem with it when he was an All-World QB. Now, his arrogance is starting to trouble me, but it is what it is. I’m grateful for all he’s done for this team and he’s going to be around for a while. All I can do is hope for the best. There’s no point in getting down on the guy.
  14. The Falcons beat the Cardinals 40-14. Go figure.
  15. This is not a good team (obviously) ... it’s also not a bad team. I’m looking forward to when these teams meet again in Week 1 at Soldier Field. The Packers will have added two first round picks and the Bears will have added none. The clock is ticking on their cheap QB and when they have to pay him $30 million, they won’t be able to keep that defense together.
  16. The Packers probably win this game if they have Khalil Mack and the Bears don’t.
  17. Someone has to buy Rodgers the TB12 cookbook for Christmas, because he is not aging well. They might have to use one of those two firsts on offense just to get him some help. They’ve been neglecting that side of the ball for years. It’s no wonder the offense looks so disjointed.
  18. That was my first thought, but the ball looked a little behind him. That’s not all on Jimmy.
  19. You just knew this would happen after the Mack sack on 1st Down. I turned to my wife and said they will be punting in a few snaps.
  20. I give the Packers a 40% chance to win tomorrow. I’m not counting on it, but I’m not counting them out either. 8-7-1 is a winning record and I’ll be cheering for them to get there.
  21. lol That is 100% true! I’m actually a big fan of life insurance, including some of the whole and UL products that many bloggers warn against (but I think they’re oversold). I worked for a large life insurance company earlier in my career and the commission paid to the agents for selling a policy was usually equivalent to the the first year’s premium. They might only make $100 on a standard term policy, but could make $1000 for a whole life policy with the same coverage amount. I’m not suggesting whole life insurance is bad. I’m just saying the incentive structure is too out of whack to trust the recommendation of most advisors.
  22. We can hold your hand for free, PlayerHader. For what reasons do you feel you need to meet with an Edward Jones rep? He or she can’t give you any real tax or legal advice. They will just put you in A-share mutual funds and your $1000 Investment will start out at $950 due to the 5% sales load. Then, they’ll set you up with an automatic contribution so they can keep 5% of whatever you invest indefinitely. Next, they’ll try to sell you life insurance you probably don’t need.
  23. I think this plan makes sense for most people in the accumulation phase. It sounds like you’ve got the right idea. Just look fo low cost, equity index funds within your retirement plans. I don’t use a financial advisor (most are glorified sales people), but I will consult a JD/CPA as I get closer to retirement or when my assets hit critical mass.
  24. For the record, I don’t hate the idea of Philbin coaching the team next year if they win out, but I’d like for them to consider other options too. On the plus side, their chances of retaining Pettine probably go up with hiring Philbin permanently.
  25. Gary Andersen is reportedly returning to Utah State.
