  1. I’m pretty sure you are referring to ‘Story Lords.’
  2. I was surprised to see that Michael Clark retired.
  3. They did that. That's how they got Dudley. The problem was a year later they traded Dudley for nothing and traded the 1st they got with Dudley for Grievis Vasquez. Oh, that’s right. They made an uncharacteristically shrewd move and then followed it up with a more predictable one. How could I forget Vasquez’s 23 games in 2015?
  4. After the Bucks picked no. 2 overall, they should have looked to absorb a few bad contracts while their financial commitments to core players was low. This would have allowed them to add FRPs. Instead they wrote bad contracts and traded FRPs. Now they are left with few options for improving the team. Classic case of short-termism ... although, they got their arena, so maybe everything is going according to plan.
  5. Respectfully disagree. Shea McClellin once broke Aaron Rodgers’ collarbone and enterprising Bears fans did not sell canvas photo art of McClellin standing over an injured Rodgers.
  6. Since we’re still in the NFL dead zone for another week or two, which other NFL teams do you ‘sports hate?’ For me, it’s 1) Vikings 2) Cowboys 3) Seahawks No other team is close, not even the Bears.
  7. If a Packer fan owns a Brett Favre Vikings jersey, are they still a Packer fan? Jets jersey? Fine. Vikings jersey? C’mon.
  8. Boston seems to do ok getting high draft picks. They have a real GM, so it can be done. But the Brooklyn trade that brought a monster haul and the trade of Doc Rivers for a FRP were both kind of flukey. It’s hard to count on those types of moves being available to sustain your franchise. Kudos to Ainge, though.
  9. Couldn’t have said it better. These guys are about making money and to do so they are putting together a team just good enough to make people think they can be contenders. Sorry, but that's ridiculous. These guys are billionaires and could invest in anything else if it was just about money. They bought the Bucks to win a title. Highly competitive guys that want a ring to show off. That's why, as with Mark A, they get impatient at times and make moves to win now. Thanks to these Owners, a part of Milwaukee is being revitalized. Never would have happened otherwise. Yay billionaires! Taxpayers hardly got fleeced. Without the Bucks, that's a lot of state income tax that goes bye bye. They are less of a basketball team and more of a tax-payer funded real estate venture at this point. You’re right, it’s not an investment in the traditional sense. It’s more of a toy or status symbol. If they ever get bored, they’ll sell the team off for double what they paid. Are there some economic benefits to the team and the new arena? Of course, and I apologize for marginalizing those benefits - but they primarily benefit Southeat Wisconsin and not the rest of the state. Milwaukee County alone is 4x larger than Brown County, which funded the $300 million Lambeau Field renovation with no state help. Sure, ‘fleeced’ is hyperbole, but the Bucks marketed their efforts around Giannis and Jabari. We’ll need a new arena just to hold all the banners, right? Thus far, the basket of goods hasn’t lived up to its billing. You can’t blame me and many others for being a little sour.
  10. Couldn’t have said it better. These guys are about making money and to do so they are putting together a team just good enough to make people think they can be contenders. Thank you. The Packers went to the State nearly 20 years ago for help with renovating Lambeau Field and got nothing. Brown County had to raise $300 million on its own through a county-wide sales tax. And this is for a team that is a huge draw across the state and has enjoyed a good deal of success (including XLV) since the tax was passed. Yet somehow the state found money for the Bucks? Politics at its worst.
  11. I have no problem with it as a basketball move. However, as others have said, to get no value out of the #2 overall pick after 4 years is a shame (regardless of the circumstances).
  12. And they fleeced every tax payer outside of SE Wisconsin while enriching themselves and their buddies by buying up land around the new arena. At least Herb Kohl was a good steward of the team.
  13. My summer intern was watching a World Cup match on his phone yesterday while at his desk. Is that still taboo? I personally wouldn’t do it, but in this day and age, I feel like it might almost be acceptable. There’s an expectation in my office that we must be available on some nights and weekends to work on certain key projects, so the boundaries of traditional 8-5 schedule have been blurred.
  14. Do they still sell souvenir soda cups at Miller Park? I have about 20 (one for every game I’ve attended in my adult life). However, I wasn’t able to find them for sale on the terrace level during my one trip last season nor during my May visit this year.
  15. My situation is similar to GAME05. Three years ago I began experiencing some knee pain. An MRI revealed the ligament attaching my quad to my kneecap is 50% torn from the kneecap. At then age 50, decided to live with it. A good PT showed me some exercises to strengthen the hip and quads. I now do activities pain free. If you're in Milwaukee, PM me and I'll pass along his name. I really appreciate that! My wife teaches at a small college and has some neat benefits, including free access to an on-site physical therapist at the student health center. Her benefits extend to spouses, so I think I’ll start there. It’s also a good excuse to meet my wife for lunch on campus. It’s like a date except we don’t need to hire a babysitter.
  16. I surveyed the knee brace selection at Target yesterday and noticed the patella tendon brace you recommended. Would the larger sleeve style brace give me the same support around the knee cap (plus a little more) or is that more of a general purpose brace?
  17. Thanks, All, for weighing in on the knee pain. I dislocated my knee a few times in 2002, so that likely explains the pain around the knee cap. The patellar tendon brace is a great suggestion. I used one during my recovery many years ago. New, decent shoes are also a must. I’ll also look into some stretches and strengthening exercises.
  18. I had a bad knee injury in HS. I had no problem staying in shape while riding an exercise bike in my 20s. Now I’m 33 and the same old habits aren’t working. A few weeks ago, I started walking at a brisk pace for 40 minutes / day (plus a 2-hour walk on the weekends). Feeling great. Now I’m starting with knee pain. I think in the short term it makes sense to battle through the pain - haven’t been this active since before kids. Step 2 would be to drop $100 on a nice pair of walking shoes from an actual running shoe store (not the Kohl’s specials I’d ordinarily buy). Otherwise, I’m dreading having to see a specialist. I don’t want them to say I need to cut back on the long walks or that I’m 10 years away from a knee replacement. Praying for an easy fix.
  19. That’s a pretty open-ended question. What’s your risk tolerance? Do you currently use any tax-advantaged savings vehicles?
  20. I think that’s a decent allocation. Personally, I love precious metals as a recession hedge. Maybe that’s why your FA friend is suggesting mining? My knowledge of the law and trusts is minimal, but what happens if your GF gets cleaned out in a civil suit? Is the $500K safe? That’s something I might want to run by a trust officer. I’m overly cautious about that sort of thing and will probably explore some options once my assets hit a critical mass.
  21. I work in Financial Services and am generally distrustful of your average financial advisor. Most are glorified salespeople. However, I’d strongly entourage you to visit with a few bank trust officers - highly qualified individuals who are lawyers, accountants, or both. There is virtually no downside risk involved, besides your time. They’ll give you their best efforts pitch for your dollars and you can simply walk away if you’re uncomfortable. I don’t pay for investment advice, but I do pay for legal and tax advice.
  22. Even if you have a great facility that is capable of hosting men’s and women’s college hockey, you’d be forgoing other revenue by hosting poorly attended women’s hockey games. Ice time is expensive and other groups are willing to pay to use your university’s facilities for their own competitions. The University of North Dakota has no problem renting out their ice when the men’s team is on the road. They book various youth hockey tournaments, curling and figure skating competitions, and concerts. Not only does this help generate revenue for the university, but it also creates part time jobs for current students and helps showcase the campus to prospective students who visit for these activities.
  23. Actually, it’s probably easier to add 18 different scholarships to existing women’s sports, but it’s a delicate balance. I believe there’s still a back door way for female students to force the school to add hockey either through a petition or an annual survey. There are different routes to Title IX compliance and it depends on which route the school has chosen.
  24. The biggest expense associated with adding D1 Men’s Hockey? Adding D1 Women’s Hockey. Expansion is great for college hockey, but i just don’t think it’s feasible for many schools.
  25. I just can’t get behind Vegas ... doesn’t seem fair to long suffering fan bases.
