  1. I don’t like how MLB gamecast resets stats for each series. I’d be nice to see how players are hitting in October, not just tonight.
  2. I should have bought a Timeless Ticket.
  3. I’m not speaking from experience, but I would imagine teaching English in a foreign country is very different than spending a year on your parents’ dime creating a top-notch Instagram account.
  4. Good color there, thank you. I had incorrectly assumed its reversal was political, given the timing. I have no doubt that Mark A will use all legal remedies to minimize his estate tax bill, but with assets that size, it would still be a significant obstacle for any heir wishing to retain ownership of a pro sports team.
  5. It also depends on where the estate tax is sitting at the time of the team owner’s death. Hypothetically, if the estate tax were 50% and the value of the estate’s ownership interest represented more than half the estate’s value, the heirs would have no choice but to sell unless they themselves were independently wealthy. The Steinbrenner Family was exceptionally lucky when George Steinbrenner passed as the estate tax was repealed for one year only in 2010 (a result of a planned phaseout beginning in 2001 that was eventually reversed when political winds shifted ... that’s not intended to be politicall commentary, but rather the facts surrounding an odd tax loophole that ensured the Steinbrenners would control the Yankees for another generation).
  6. Some people simply choose to maximize the importance of things in their life that are going well and minimize the importance of things that are going poorly. I don’t see anything wrong with that. I’m certainly guilty of having more interest in this year’s team than any team since 2011.
  7. I didn’t know that was a thing. I’ve only seen chairs and blankets.
  8. lovvvvvvvve it for the trading i do. More info, please. I’m considering opening a small account to deposit a few dollars in each paycheck just to play around and learn about the market, basically. How easy is this to do? It’s pretty easy to set up a Robinhood account. It took me less than 5 minutes to open an account using the mobile app, but they also have a desktop version. You will likely have to wait 2-3 days for the account to be approved. Once it’s OK’d you can start trading immediately. I transfer $100 once a month manually without an automatic contribution. Then I buy $100 worth of whatever I like. The no-fee model makes this feasible. Buying 1 share of Disney (for example) at a time would be impractical on any other platform. The whole process takes me 2 minutes each month (cash transfer and purchase). Very easy.
  9. The greatest aspects of beating the Cubs was obviously all Baseball related, but the huge icing on the cake is we don't get another Wild Card banner! I love almost everything about Miller Park, but that Wild Card banner is flat out embarrassing!!!! I honestly believe the Wild Card banner was appropriate at the time. Sure, it seems a little silly after the pair of division titles, but 2008 is still arguably a Top 5 season in franchise history. I can live with it (and even bought a t-shirt to commemorate it).
  10. Look at the way some teams go through kickers. I know Mason isn’t elite, but he’s been a steady performer. I’d give him another week to get right.
  11. All of the pressure is on the Dodgers: - Defending NL Champs - Ace Pitcher (with a so-so postseason history) - Big move for Machado - Big Payroll / Market Let’s have fun.
  12. I’ll echo that sentiment as a northerner. The Brewers are a much more accessible team. I attended some Bucks games in my early 20s, but now the thought of driving 2+ hours in the winter is unappealing. You never know what kind of weather you’re going to get when you buy tickets. With the Brewers, the chances of hitting severe weather from April - October (yay!) are much lower. Also, the Wisconsin tailgate culture helps drive Brewer attendance, but you’ll probably get a fine if you take out your grill in a parking ramp. Lame. Lastly, I still hate that the state kicked in $50 million to help the Bucks after the Packers’ request for help was denied in 2000. Brown County (population 250,000) had to go in alone with a half percent sales tax to finance the Lambeau Field renovations. The Brewers are a state-wide team and the Bucks’ appeal is limited beyond Southeast Wisconsin.
  13. I think I prefer being the underdog.
  14. Welcome! That’s a great first post.
  15. There is some new NLCS gear on the MLB Shop. They also note online that most ‘Defend MKE’ gear is ‘almost gone,’ but I have a hard time believing they wouldn’t print up more if they can sell them for $70.
  16. This is probably the quickest I’ve recovered from a Packers loss. Hopefully local sports radio glosses over the Packers this week and gives this team their due.
