  1. Looking ahead, the Packers play the Cardinals on TNF and the Chiefs play the Giants on MNF. The Packers and Chiefs meet the following week with the Packers on 10 days of rest and the Chiefs on 6. That’s good news for the Packers, but I think I could design a better, more fair NFL schedule with my buddies and a very large sheet of poster board..
  2. Miami, currently tied for the worst record in the league at 1-6, does not own its first round pick next year. They used it to trade up from #12 to #6 in last year’s draft. If they finish in the bottom 5, that’s a fireable offense, right?
  3. [sarcasm]I guess their strategy of starting a kicker who hasn’t played in a game since he graduated from college 5 years ago backfired.[/sarcasm]
  4. They would first need the cap space to absorb the full WR tag. It will take some maneuvering.
  5. I’m half joking, but if the NFL is going to add an extra game to the schedule (against the Chiefs) and then make the Packers fly across the country to play an undefeated team on 4 days rest, the Packers should take a page out of the NBA’s book and practice ‘load management.’ That might not turn out to be the almost certain loss it appeared to be. No, but someone at NFL HQ clearly tried to cajole an extra Rodgers / Mahomes matchup out of this 17-game season nonsense.
  6. I’ve been meaning to compliment Olsen. He’s covered the Packers two weeks in a row. He’s been smooth, insightful, and not overbearing. Impressive for a first year broadcaster.
  7. [sarcasm]Que the barrage of angry emails.[/sarcasm]
  8. I’m half joking, but if the NFL is going to add an extra game to the schedule (against the Chiefs) and then make the Packers fly across the country to play an undefeated team on 4 days rest, the Packers should take a page out of the NBA’s book and practice ‘load management.’
  9. I’ve been critical of Gary in the past, but he’s earned my respect this season. I questioned why they’d take him #12 overall when they devoted so much capital to the Smiths in free agency. Even if he breaks out, they pretty much waisted 2 out of his 4 ‘value years.’ That’s not Gary’s problem, but again, I question the choice as the best use of draft capital.
  10. Joining live at halftime. A few observations: 1. What’s their record in coin tosses this year? 2-5? They are lucky it didn’t cost them a possession. Sooner or later, it will. 2. Special Teams giveth and Special Teams taketh awayith. 3. You hate seeing the defense give up another opening drive TD, but 7 points surrendered in a half is a win.
  11. Those two things have little to do with each other. No college football offense is going from one of the best in the nation to one of the worst due to losing one player. The truth is probably somewhere in between. From 2014-2020, either Deshaun Watson or Trevor Lawrence started at QB in 6 of those 7 seasons. That probably accounts for a good portion of their recent success.
  12. When I heard 9OT, I assumed the game ended with scores in the 70s. Wrong. 20-18.
  13. No Jrue. No Brook. No Bobby. The box score showed Pat starting at Center. Plus the Heat were playing their first game, while the Bucks battled Brooklyn two nights ago. Concern Level = 0 My only complaint is I wish they would have just given Giannis the night off.
  14. The Packers are apparently the most hated team in 6 states: MN, MI, IL, IA, ND, and SD. The Bears are the most hated team in WI, while the Cowboys are the most hated team overall: https://www.yahoo.com/news/dallas-cowboys-nfl-most-hated-182743766.html I’ve never really hated the Bears. For me, my hated teams are 1) Vikings, 2) Seahawks, 3) Cowboys.
  15. I got in on a work pool, so I’m watching Survivor for the first time in years. The game has really changed with its advantages and hidden idols. I’m not sure I even understand how it fully works. Also, all the contestants are awful (at least the ones featured prominently in recent episodes). One gal is a pastor and she’s been the most manipulative player.
  16. This is an interesting gossip piece: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/greg-schiano-going-bring-joe-180816226.html Apparently, had Greg Schiano been hired as head coach at Tennessee in 2017, he was going to bring Joe Burrow with him. At the time, Schiano was the DC at Ohio State and Joe Burrow was buried on the depth chart. Schiano allegedly knew what he had in Burrow, but Urban Meyer was enamored with Dwayne Haskins. However, Tennessee fans threw a fit and the school backed out of an agreement to hire Schiano. Burrow then winds up with rival LSU and wins a national championship.
  17. Bucks sign Grayson Allen to a 2/$20 million extension: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/bucks-grayson-allen-agree-extension-212113841.html
  18. How fitting would it be to watch Mike McCarthy’s team end Aaron Rodgers’ Packers career after Rodgers ended McCarthy’s Packer career?
  19. This is going to get me through my week! Rodgers was kind of bashful about it in his post game press conference, but it was apparently in response to a Bears fan giving him the double birds after that TD. Edit: This feels a bit clownish now that the heat of the moment has passed, but I get that it was something the field mics picked up and not a public statement.
  20. It’s really hard to complain about 5-1. They’re winning the games they should without David Bakhtiari, Za’Darius Smith, and Jaire Alexander. Rodgers looks invested in this season and the defense, despite its limitations, has gotten enough timely stops.
  21. I’m swamped at work this week, so I’ll be DVR’ing the game and watching a condensed version beginning around 1:00 pm. Go Pack!
  22. I’m not a huge Badger fan, so please help me understand the angst against Iowa. Is it because the Badgers are still in contention for the Big Ten West or do fans legitimately hate Iowa? I’d like to see any team besides Ohio State (and maybe Penn State) come out of the Big Ten.
  23. Sam Merrill made the Grizzlies roster. Good for Sam. https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/264431/Kris-Dunn-Waived-By-Grizzlies;-Sam-Merrill-Jared-Culver-Make-Opening-Roster
  24. Ha. I think that’s a fair assessment as far as Wisconsin goes.
  25. A Catholic Diocese in Italy has temporarily banned the practice of naming godparents for newly baptized babies because parents have been using it as a networking opportunity for their children, rather than appointing spiritual mentors. There are also some mob implications, with some ‘well-connected’ individuals having at least a dozen godchildren. https://www.yahoo.com/news/land-godfather-comes-ban-them-153816569.html Even though my wife and I are lapsed Catholics, we still had our son baptized. My wife has one sister and I have one brother, so naming godparents was easy and uncontroversial. I suppose the potential for hurt feelings exists in other families. Never once did I think of appointing a godparent to further my career (or my son’s).
