  1. Tyrod Taylor to start for Texans; Watson to sit: https://sports.yahoo.com/tyrod-taylor-announced-texans-staring-160829057.html
  2. I really hate the media... everything is clickbait now. Yeah, even on semi-reputable sights like CBS Sports, you’ll see headlines like ‘Eagles sign former Super Bowl MVP.’ Why couldn’t they just say ‘Eagles sign Joe Flacco?’ Sometimes they get me, but I try not to take the bait.
  3. It sounds like ‘Bishop Sycamore’ may have just been a vehicle for the head coach to make money. He charges the players ‘tuition,’ takes in travel fees from actual prep school teams who have difficulties filling their schedules, and then spends the bare minimum on travel and equipment to field a team (bouncing checks along the way): https://www.yahoo.com/sports/opinion-scam-sadly-bishop-sycamore-105816447.html
  4. I was out for a walk this morning and noticed the Prime truck was making deliveries at 6:00 am (on Labor Day). It’s no wonder why they are winning the internet.
  5. ^^^ I had fielded a middling team for years, but the stars were aligning for me in this particular season. My top guys stayed healthy and I hit on some late round picks. The only problem was I’d either win by 40 or lose by 5. I didn’t have a rage episode or anything like that. It just became more frustrating than fun. I decided I didn’t want to spend Sundays grumbling at my phone. When my son gets a little older, I wouldn’t mind managing a team together (or competing against him), provided the interest is there. For now, I’m content just watching. * Edit: I saved a screen shot of the final standings. I finished 6-7 with the most points scored, but with the second most points against (in a 12-team league).
  6. I’m not a big Fantasy guy (I rage quit 5 years ago after leading my league in points scored, but missing the cut for a 6-team playoff on the basis of W-L record). However, one of my colleagues named his team ‘Cooper Troopers’ because he drafted both Cooper Kupp and Amari Cooper. I thought that was pretty clever and worth sharing. Great movie. Good luck to you All.
  7. I just saw a WI Packers vanity plate with the tag ‘ILVGOLD.’
  8. A one loss Power 5 conference champ usually still has a route to the 4-team playoff. College football won’t be the same when they eventually get to a 12 or 16-team playoff system. I love that every game matters, even if that mean losses sting a little more.
  9. The Seahawks just flipped a CB they signed as a FA for a 5th Rounder: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/steelers-swing-trade-with-seahawks-to-land-a-confident-cornerback-174916211.html
  10. I find it amusing that Louisiana-Lafayette has successfully branded themselves as ‘Louisiana’ for athletics by taking the ‘we’re just going to do it, state legislature be damned’ approach. That’d be the equivalent of UW-Milwaukee just deciding to be called ‘Wisconsin State’ or UWGB calling themselves ‘Wisconsin Tech’ by just changing signage and the apparel they sell at their respective book stores.
  11. It sounds like BYU, UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston will receive invites to join the Big XII: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/big-12-conference-selects-four-001417752.html I think those are realistically the best programs they could hope to add, but I don’t see the Big XII around in 10 years. A few years ago, I thought we were headed to 4 16-team conferences (with the Big XII effectively the loser of the consolidation process). Now I think we’re headed for an ESPN-driven super league with approximately 40 teams. Do you think Conference USA teams are waiting on the edge of their seats for an AAC invite? It’s amazing how many dominos will fall as a result of 2 teams switching conferences.
  12. Tomorrow he'll be a golfer. The next day it'll be professional pool player. He's 4 LOL I know … it’s funny to watch him go through these phases. Although, beginning in 1st Grade, I played a different sport every season at the YMCA (flag football, basketball, baseball, and soccer). It was fun. I liked the variety. His reaction to merely watching another sport (track) was amusing.
  13. I told my soon-to-be 5-year-old that we could go watch a basketball game at the local high school this Winter and then maybe catch a track meet in the Spring (his mother and I both ran track). He turned to me and said ‘No, Dad. I’m a basketball player.’ And so it begins …
  14. Jeff Green and Paul Millsap basically switched places this off-season. I’m not sure there’s any net gain there (no pun intended). Agree with Homer - It will be very satisfying if the Bucks repeat, especially if they conquer both super teams en route to the title.
  15. That’s neat. I don’t think Alex is really an NBA player … yet. He did not play much in Europe last year and was relegated to his club’s ‘B Team.’ I just don’t see him getting a roster spot unless it’s strictly to appease Giannis. Thanasis may be a fringe NBA player, but at least he was an All-Star in the top Greek League. A G-League deal for Alex (or a TW contract) seems far more likely.
  16. I feel bad for the kids (even if they are 19 and 20). Their season is cancelled and now their ‘school’ has become a punch line.
  17. Moody’s has been forecasting a Q4 pullback in asset prices for a while. That includes both stock and real estate. I think it’s more of a correction than a recession. Their mid-term outlook is still bullish, but I sense some short term uncertainty.
  18. The Saints apparently researched which alternate site would give them the closest thing to home field advantage. Aaron Rodgers is 3-4 all-time in Florida with a 78.1 passer rating. They chose Jacksonville over Miami and Tampa (which were also open that date) because flights from Wisconsin to Jacksonville are more expensive than flights to either Miami or Tampa. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/saints-considered-every-detail-choosing-014811182.html
  19. Brett Hundley was cut by the Colts, but signed to their practice squad.
  20. The punter switch looks even better now … wouldn’t want to risk JK cramping up in JAX.
  21. Exactly. I think he’s on the PS because he was the 7th best receiver on their camp roster. (and probably has some upside, when healthy)
  22. Lots of reported practice squad signings, including Benkert, Van Lanen, and St. Brown: https://www.acmepackingcompany.com/2021/9/1/22651985/green-bay-packers-practice-squad-signings-and-waiver-claims-tracker
  23. I wonder if the Saints already declared their jersey color or if they will switch to white?
  24. Apparently, Minister Andre Peterson: Seems odd that a school administrator would use a gmail address. That probably should have been another red flag.
  25. FIXED. [sarcasm]Ha! No, I really meant cooler … I dig the whole Bills Mafia vibe.[/sarcasm]
