  1. Why is this baffling? They still need to rely on him. He's a cheap, good arm that will be around for awhile. He needs to make an impact for the bullpen to be successful. Obviously Melvin believes in him, and wants him to turn it around and be closer again. That what be nice, because then he wouldn't have to go out overpaying, or looking for a closer in the offseason. He's not gonna bash Ax, and not voice confidence in him. What he says and what he actually feels are two different things. Roenicke didn't use the same explanation, so that's obviously not why the move was made.
  2. I'm not really concerned about the market for Greinke. He'll probably come out an pitch well on Tuesday, and then again on Sunday if he's not traded by then. Any worries will be gone pretty quickly. I don't think Melvin will have a tough time trading him if he ends up doing so. Even if no one wants him, you gotta think that would help our chances of keeping him in the offseason. So many teams being turned off by him would limit his market in free agency. But like Rosenthal said, all it takes is one. I'm not really concerned at this point.
  3. Houston is making some good moves. Very smart for them to completely tear it down and rebuild. Great trade for them. A yawner for the Jays.
  4. I'm with you on this. I think he needs to be traded whether Melvin thinks we're still in the race or not. He doesn't need to sell off all of his tradable pieces, but he needs to make sure he gets something more than a comp pick. Maybe if he wants to keep a chance at contention he'll try to land a young, major league pitcher as part of the deal. I wouldn't mind that as long as other prospects were also coming along. It's possible that he does plan to trade Greinke, but the Brewers place in the standings will determine more what type of package he's looking for. He said he'd wait to determine whether or not to sell, but not sure that just trading Greinke would be considered selling.
  5. I don't care if that was a Cena match, it still should be #1. That match was outstanding.
  6. Just because Melvin initially said he'd wait until after these 9 games doesn't mean he won't end up waiting longer based on the outcome. If the Brewers can take 2 of 3 in Cincy, he may wait it out longer to see how they do in Philly and the first few games at home against Washington. He can afford to wait if they can keep making up ground. 2 out of 3, or a sweep, would put off the decision. 1 out of 3, or getting swept, would likely push him to sell. This is a HUGE series. It could go a long way in ultimately determining the future of this team. I think best case is probably a sweep either way. I obviously would prefer to get the sweep, but it's gotta be one way or the other at this point. This team needs a direction. If they end up in limbo, don't sell, and miss the playoffs, that could cripple the future. They need to sell and reload for the future, or make a serious run.
  7. I don't see any way Melvin becomes a buyer. He'll either sell to some extent or stand pat. Maybe a minor move or two, but nothing major at all that would designate the Brewers as buyers.
  8. In terms of a Greinke trade we should hope that Hamels re-signs with the Phillies soon, and then Greinke is Plan A for the Rangers. They are the best match, and will be better if they need to go hard after Greinke.
  9. Yeah, he's been pretty bad in June and July. Hamilton has always been a huge risk. I don't think anything will change that. It's definitely risky to sign him to a big deal. Not sure how many teams will actually be scared off though, just because he'll be the best available bat on the market.
  10. This makes me think there's actually a chance of it happening. Will Carroll is a very credible source. Before now, I really didn't believe there was any chance. Was this on Bill Michaels or Chuck and Wickett? I'll have to listen to it later.
  11. Just looking at teams that were interested in Greinke. The only other one I see is the Angels have Jordan Walden eligible to come off on the 24th. I'm not sure that Feliz or Walden would be traded, but never know. There's also the possibility of prospects being on the DL though.
  12. http://brewersbeat.mlblogs.com/2012/07/17/for-now-axford-out-as-closer/ http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/162789176.html#!page=0&pageSize=10&sort=newestfirst Here's a few links discussing the move.
  13. Now there's reports that Ax may work some in the 7th and 8th, so I guess it depends on the situation. I highly doubt he'll get many setup chances in the short-term, because the 8th is just as important as the 9th, so that wouldn't really change anything.
  14. I don't understand how this is going to help him. Axford's problems aren't from pitching in pressure situations. It's about helping the team more than him. He can't be in there trying to work on control problems while still pitching in pressure situations.
  15. It's official, Ax is out and K-Rod is in as closer. This is according to multiple people on twitter. McCalvy, Rosiak, etc. 8th inning will be matchups with Loe, Veras, and Parra. Ax will pitch in situations that put him in a position to succeed. Or basically non-pressure situations.
  16. Neftali Feliz is close to coming off the DL for the Rangers.
  17. Apparently Craig Coshun said today that the whole team are scratching their heads about Greinke being rested for so long. Now it's gotten even more fishy. Something is definitely going on if none of the players understand it.
  18. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/07/brown-on-athletics-dodgers-brewers.html?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=facebook Tim Brown says the Brewers are looking for major league pitching for Ramirez. I guess this at leasts means DM is open to trading him. There's just a set price.
  19. I sure hope so. But Ziggler/Jericho will be great whether it is for the title or not. The 1000th Raw looks like it'll be awesome too. I still think they should've held back the Punk/Cena match until SummerSlam though.
  20. I don't see that happening. Especially since he really made it seem like he doesn't view draft picks as a good return for losing players while in the booth during the game tonight. Made it sound to me like he won't let that happen. At least not with guys like Greinke.
  21. I couldn't disagree with this more. One solid reliever isn't going to fix the pen and make up an 8 game deficit, and trade prices for relievers are severely inflated near the deadline. Let's not compound the problem this year by further depleting an already weak farm system. It's not happening this year. They are just not good enough. I agree. Trading for anyone is not something Melvin should be doing right now. One pen arm isn't gonna fix a thing anyway. No reason to give up prospects. It is what it is at this point. It's something that will need to be addressed more in the offseason. It's gonna take a lot more than one new arm to fix this mess of a pen.
  22. I wouldn't mind using Estrada in the pen late in games. He's very versatile. Although, there's also something to be said for keeping him as a starter to see what we have for the rotation next year.
  23. He honestly said this? Wow. That is absolutely ridiculous. I don't even have words for how poor that logic is.
