  1. I hope RVD is in one of the MITB matches. That would be entertaining to watch again. It's been awhile.
  2. If they ever come up with any type of helmet design for a pitcher it will likely be voluntary. I don't see a lot of pitcher's choosing to wear them honestly. It definitely is something that has seemed to occur more than you'd think it would though.
  3. This is definitely accurate. He needs to learn to work the count more if he ever wants to hit at the top of the lineup. If he doesn't become that type of hitter, then he's really not that useful. He's nothing special defensively either. It's obviously still early on, but it would be more encouraging to see him have better at-bats.
  4. Why would the Brewers need a 4th player who can cover all 3 OF spots? Doesn't really make any sense. Schafer and Aoki can both play CF along with Gomez. Not sure why this would even be needed. If they wanted someone who can play all 3 OF spots they could just call up Josh Prince again as he can also play all of the INF positions also. I guess it's his lefty bat as well, and he's been hot recently at AAA. But I really do think it's his OF defense that's a big factor. Prince is a more natural IF, and Davis sucks in the field.
  5. It's gonna be Gindl. They need someone who can cover all 3 OF spots, and Gindl can. Davis only plays LF.
  6. For one, 3 or 4 games wouldn't make much difference. They'd still be too far out of the race. Maybe they'd have a very outside shot at the 2nd wild card, but that's about it. And also that's assuming that Morris could've put up a WAR of 2-3, seeing as Yuni is at around -1. I highly doubt that would've been anywhere close to the case. He maybe would've gotten them 2 more wins at best. The main problem has been the starting rotation. The struggles of Weeks and Lucroy for the first 2 months and the Ramirez injury were far more of a problem for the offense than who was playing 1B.
  7. The season is already lost, so there's really no point to call up Morris. He's had his ups and downs in AAA, and we're better off leaving him there. Especially since chances are that Hart will be with the team for the rest of the season. The last thing we need is Morris coming up and pressing. There have been a lot of cases where players come up too early, struggle, lose confidence, and hurt their development. I don't wanna see that with Morris. We already saw that in the spring when he had a shot at the 1B job. He's better off finishing strong in AAA, and coming out next year with a shot at the everyday job if Hart is gone.
  8. Also, it would be a joke if Gomez doesn't make it. He currently has the highest BA out of all NL OF, 2nd most hits, most triples, 2nd highest OBP and SLG, and the highest WAR. He also has some of the best overall stats period. He really deserves to be a starter at this point honestly.
  9. Tulowitzki broke a rib tonight, so that could open up the starting spot for Segura.
  10. Well, the real lesson that should be learned here is to sell high on guys like Hart. He should've been traded quite awhile ago. No matter what ends up happening, they won't get adequate value for him. This is why Ramirez should definitely be traded at the deadline as well. He could drop off or end up becoming injury prone, and with a fat contract. Time to move him now while they still can.
  11. Not a huge deal. They can just offer him the qualifying offer in the offseason. If he takes it, then they can trade him next year at the deadline.
  12. I'd say so, yeah. Truly, the doctor said it was a 4-6 month recovery. They really shouldn't have set all those tentative return dates. Everyone just speculated because of what Hart said he'd try to do, and because he usually heals quickly. I'm not that surprised that he's not back yet.
  13. For sure. Could see this lineup as early as August 1. Although I doubt they'd stick Morris in the cleanup spot right away this season. They'd probably go Luc, Gomez, Morris at 4, 5, 6 for the rest of the year.
  14. Ethier's contract: 2014 - $15.5 million 2015 - $18 million 2016 - $18 million 2017 - $17.5 million 2018 - $17.5 million option with a $2.5 million buyout. I'll pass on taking on that contract. But that's just my opinion.
  15. Gorzelanny was just announced as the starter. I'm guessing Thornburg was called up to be the long reliever.
  16. After Saturday, a 5th starter isn't needed until the 22nd. So this is likely for only one start. Not that big of a deal.
  17. Cheap? He's still owed $20 million including his buyout for 2014, or $30 million over 2014-2015. That's going to eliminate a fair chunk of teams, and greatly reduce the return in terms of players though the salary relief is nice. His knee issues also make him less attractive to NL teams. I think the Dodgers would be a main suitor for him, and they'd obviously have no problem paying that salary. Other teams that always wouldn't be deterred by his salary and may have interest are the Angels and Yankees.
  18. Knowing our front office they'll trade for a package involving Ethier instead of prospects, as stupid as that may be. I do have hopes that they'll make the right moves and actually be sellers though.
  19. I think there is a distinct possibility that some teams have actually called Melvin about Weeks, so they called up Scooter to see how he responds. If he plays well then maybe they'll pull the trigger and deal Weeks and go with Scooter. Not saying this is the case, just that it could be. I think it's a bad idea to sell low on Weeks, but you never know how other teams value him.
  20. I guess I care a little that they started Scooter's clock, but I am not as optimistic that he will be good enough that we have to worry about it in three years. But I am encouraged that hopefully this means that Melvin realizes he needs to keep Weeks from vesting his option and this is one step he is taking to do just that. I don't care about his service clock. I agree with you, I don't think he'll end up being the type of player that it'll matter for. The point is that he needs regular at-bats at this point, and he won't get them here. As I said, it reminds me a lot of the Taylor Green situation. They are very similar players. With this being a lost season, I'd just rather see him get regular at-bats. It is smart to make sure Weeks' option doesn't vest though, but that could be done by giving Bianchi playing time a platoon situation. To me, a player like Hunter Morris is someone to be more excited about. Although, that's probably the reason he isn't up here right now. He's a guy whose service time is worth saving. Would've been nice to see him at 1B while Hart was out though. He'd make more of an impact. I think we'll see him when Hart gets dealt though.
  21. Don't like the move. It's a lost season. Should keep Scooter in AAA to get regular at-bats, and play Weeks every day in hopes of him regaining some trade value for this offseason. Production at 2B isn't the reason this team is struggling. I'd actually be more on board if the team was winning. In that case, little fixes would make a lot more sense. This just mirrors the call-up of Taylor Green a few years ago in terms of sporadic playing time and unreasonably high expectation. He's being set up to fail in my opinion.
  22. This move is definitely in part covering for when Hart/Ramirez get traded in July. I like the move. Needed another lefty bat too.
