  1. My guess on this is the he used something to help him recover from injuries faster during the 2011 playoffs, and he obviously got caught from that. I highly doubt he's used since that positive test, so that's what this is all stemming from. He likely got whatever he was taking from Bosch. Then he realized he could get off on a technicality, so he did. He denied it because he thought there was no chance of him ever getting caught, but then this biogenesis stuff came about and he finally got burned. I just wish he had come clean when he failed the test, and explained why he failed it and that it was a one time mistake. He would've gotten the 50 game suspension, and people would've gotten past it a lot faster than they will this. The main problem I have with this is him lying to us all about it, and throwing so many people under the bus in the process. Cheating has been prevalent in baseball, and mistake happen. I can get past that and forgive him for that. The part I have a problem with is being lied to. Lots of people supported him wholeheartedly, and were all let down. It's really disappointing, and that's the part that I'll have a harder time getting over. He lied to all of us hardcore fans who supported him up and down, and that is what hurts most.
  2. I don't think it's his $11M salary deterring teams. That's a fair contract. Teams were clamoring for Dempster this offseason, and he's arguably not even as good as Lohse. The reason being is that a draft pick didn't have to be given up for him. I think if anything it's the $7M in deferred payments that would turn teams off. Otherwise, there's definitely a market for a pitcher like Lohse at that price. I would agree that it's more likely that the Brewers for some reason don't want to trade him.
  3. It's pretty obvious that Henderson will move to closer since he's currently the setup man.
  4. I think the best plan with Ramirez would be to sit him out the rest of July, then slip him through waivers on August 1 before activating him. Then hopefully he'll be pretty healthy, have a few good weeks, and get traded somewhere.
  5. Not necessarily. With his contract, he's a perfect August trade candidate. Again, I could see someone like the Dodgers claiming him (if he's healthy) leaving the Brewers to either let him go for salary relief or pull him off waivers. Or work out a trade with the Dodgers. Letting him go or pulling him back aren't the only options when a team claims a player. A trade negotiation window opens between the team and the claiming team after the claim is put in.
  6. Not necessarily. With his contract, he's a perfect August trade candidate.
  7. Yep, I completely agree. Young isn't a difference maker. Ramirez definitely is. I think teams will come calling if he proves to be healthy enough when he comes off the DL. All of the interest in Young baffles me actually. The Phillies also may not end up even being sellers, so most of those suitors could turn to Ramirez. I think the market for him may end up materializing, and with the news of the Red Sox and Yankees possibly scouting, I think it already is.
  8. K-Rod to the Dodgers on July 25
  9. Ramirez isn't the next best player to Michael Young. He's a better player than Young. Yes, I know he's injured. If he gets even a little more healthy though, he's a far better option than Michael Young. The only thing that may pull them back together if Ramirez's salary, but that shouldn't really deter teams like Boston, New York, and LA much. Ramirez is controlled beyond this season though, and Young isn't.
  10. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope that he's actually traded, along with a host of other guys! I just hope Ramirez can come back and hit well for a the week + headed into the deadline. I think there's a really good chance he'll get traded if he can do that. He'll also have to show he's relatively healthy though, and not be limping around like he was before he went back on the DL.
  11. Partially yes, but the defense is still not where it needs to be even if everyone was healthy. A healthy Ramirez is better than McGehee defensively, but still below average. Hart is better than Fielder also, but again below average. Weeks is still Weeks defensively. Segura is definitely better than Yuni, and is the best IF currently, but he's still not outstanding. 1B and 3B are going to be the real issues moving forward. I still think Segura can get by as a SS for a few years, but it would be better to find a defensive SS for the future and move Segura to 2B.
  12. Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo 55m When Aramis Ramirez returns from the disabled list Monday look for the Red Sox and Yankees to be scouting him. Both teams need a RH 3B. Looks like there will be interest in Ramirez, and the Yankees and Red Sox are two teams that can take on his salary.
  13. Agreed. Laughing it off because some of the pitchers mentioned may not end up being in the rotation isn't the right way to look at it. It needs to improve no matter what.
  14. Lol, yeah. Moving Braun to 1B would help the OF defense, not the IF defense.
  15. I know that, which is why I said find one. Would have to come in a trade most likely. I don't really see the SS in the system being able to hit enough to warrant an everyday spot in the lineup. Segura can probably stay at SS for awhile, but I think if a good defensive SS who can hit well enough could be had in a trade I'd do it.
  16. I definitely agree with this. The fact that all of what you listed has to go right to compete is why the focus should be on a rebuild. I just don't see everything going right all at once. It makes a lot more sense to at least take a step back for a few years and then come back with an actual fighting chance. The main thing to look at for me is how good the Cardinals, Reds, and Pirates are. I could see the Pirates falling back, but the Cardinals and Reds will be there. The Brewers just don't have a shot at the division. An outside shot at the 2nd WC spot is probably the best they can do, and that's not enough reason to hold off on trading away certain players and rebuilding.
  17. I think the best move to consider in the future would be to find a really good defensive SS and move Segura to 2B. He'd likely be well above average defensively at 2B, which he isn't at SS. This plan would at least lock down the middle of the IF defensively.
  18. Yeah, I think the Garza domino needs to fall before serious suitors and offers start coming in for Lohse and Gallardo.
  19. I guess it depends if you think the Brewers are going to compete in 2014. If you don't, I would unload him for the best offer whatever it may be and give Schafer the reins for the rest of the season. It would be better to find how his bat will play now, when planning for 2015. You still have Gindl and Halton as backups. What I think isn't important. Melvin said on a telecast last week he's not going to trade anyone unless it makes the team better in 2014. His window is closing and he knows it. A case can certainly be made that thiis season is an aberration. Injuries and a muddled rotation can do that. But a rotation of Peralta, Lohse, Gallardo, and Gorzellany as the top 4 can certainly be competitive in 2014. Of course there's never any guarantees. That's why I don't think we'll see any deals of current major leaguers for A ball and rookie league players. A case could be made that if Weeks could be packaged with Aoki, that whatever they got in return would represent an improvement for 2014, just with some addition by subtraction outweighing the loss of Aoki. He also said previously in an interview with the JS that any trade he'd make would be for 2-3 years down the road, and they can't afford to be making trades focused on winning now. Melvin is hard to read. He keeps things pretty close to the vest. I guess we'll find out what direction they are going when the deadline comes around, but also with what they do in the offseason.
  20. Agreed. No reason to hold him back, especially when there are also so many emerging outfield prospects in the system as well.
  21. As I said before, it's been reported that MLB is waiting to make their cases on every player involved so they can lay down all the suspensions at once. So the fact that they haven't yet really isn't an indication of anything except that they aren't done interviewing all of the players yet and putting together their cases. They still may not have anything on Braun, but even if they didn't they'd wanna try to sully his name as much as they could before that was found out for sure.
  22. Witrado said MLB is specifically waiting so they can suspend all 20+ players at the same time. So while they may or may not have evidence, it wouldn't be done by now anyways.
  23. Yeah, I think they're better off holding onto Yo for now. Then hope that he finishes the season well to restore some of his value. I'd try to trade him in the offseason, but waiting until next year's deadline wouldn't be bad either. A good start to the season next year would help a lot. I think Lohse is who they should be shopping even harder right now. I feel like he could drop off at any point, and it's better to try to trade him now while he's pitching well. Granted, the right offer for Yo may happen to come along from a desperate team before the deadline, but I don't see it happening at this point. No point in dealing him if good offers aren't there. He's not a guy you trade just to trade.
  24. This would be great. Then Gallardo and Lohse would be at the top of the list for all of the starting pitching needy teams out there.
