  1. And I think the counter argument to that would be that he shouldn’t. This where Rodgers loses me. He'd really feel better if he voiced his opinion in a board room and they ignored it anyway? Yeah I have trouble believing him.
  2. The Packers receiving corps was Adams (111), Graham (55), MVS (38). They could have used Nelson. Randall Cobb missed half the season. It was totally reasonable to cut ties with Nelson and run with Adams and Cobb and some combo of MVS/Allison/Graham. They weren't good, Nelson was getting worse, so getting more snaps for a budding player wasn't really a crazy decision.
  3. There are all kinds of variables that go into whether Nelson should have been brought back that has more to do with the box scores of games. If he's playing, somebody else isn't, and the Raiders WR group was terrrrrrrrible that season. Also, I could be mixing up by years, but I believe Jordy was comeback player of the year in 2016. In 2017, it was very apparent via eye test that he had lost a step. I think that was the year he struggled a ton getting separation and became a total non-factor.
  4. Re: Nelson not playing - it is essentially what happened to Driver as far as the fandom's hero being cast aside. He barely played his final year and wasn't activated for his last couple games including a playoff loss. Hard to see Rodgers handling that situation with Nelson any better than this one.
  5. Well, to Rodgers, they were still useful, just not at the rate of pay they were sitting at...and the Packers did not appear willing to meet them in the middle. I could be mixing up players but at one point he said something like, "Maybe not at the $9 million he was scheduled to make, but what about $3 million? And those conversations didn't take place." I think he has a point here even if in the end you don't keep players like that. I think it's a generational difference in players. Athletes aren't as warm to the cutthroat nature of the industry as they were 20 years ago.
  6. In fairness to Rodgers he conceded several times that some of the old vets were not worth their deals, but that the Packers were unwilling to meet guys even willing to take huge cuts. The rumor at the time was that they offered Nelson the league minimum. Also, Rodgers was adamant about the mentorship role and simply having guys like that in the hallways; he did not appear so delusional that he thought they were all still fantastic players. I'll give Rodgers some wiggle room here: He's a football player, that's literally his life. It's hard to fault somebody living the life who goes to bat for players with far shorter careers and empathizes with them and pulls for them to be treated more like actual people and not cogs in a machine. I don't know what could have been done though. I'm highly skeptical that "inviting him into the room" when they decided to release Jordy Nelson would have made a lick of difference.
  7. Watching Rodgers's media session, there is 0% chance he's on this team next season.
  8. Yeah I don't think Rodgers will be a problem midseason. His beef appears to be with management and not the day-to-day football stuff. He seems to respect MLF and his peers.
  9. I don't follow. All of those would have been objectively awful moves. Especially Sitton and Lang. Unless that was your point.
  10. Bizarre turn of events but it's frankly astonishing any of those women gave ANYTHING to USA gymnastics after what they went through.
  11. The Cobb thing isn't that big of a deal to me which is probably why they threw him that bone, but it still feels kind of pathetic, doesn't it? Assuming he's uncuttable, if I had to guess this means adios for Funchess.
  12. The assumption that Rodgers will continue playing at an MVP level into his 40s is an enormous leap IMO. We really need to stop treating Tom Brady as the norm. I don't think it's a leap honestly. Brady wasn't this stat God until last year. He was looking pretty washed the last few in NE. Rodgers has none of the major injury history of guys like Brees or Manning, and they were still top 10 QBs late in their careers. I just haven't seen any physical erosion at all for Rodgers and he takes great care of himself. The way QBs are protected and advances in sports science, I think it's more likely than not he's great at 40. If he wants to play. Put another way, anyone that has a nerve or labrum injury will tell you that it's 100% coming back to you at some point, or there are certain things that you can never quite do the way you used to. None of that's happened to Rodgers. He broke a couple bones, that is nothing. Every player is one play away from retirement, but even as someone that finds Rodgers beyond annoying, I wouldn't hesitate to sign him to a 3-4 year deal if he said he 100% wanted to play that long. His mobility has diminished a bit, but not so awfully that he can't move, his arm is fine, he's accurate...I just don't see a risk that's substantially greater than any other QB 6 years younger washing out and sucking.
  13. Yes, they never should have traded up to draft a QB round 1 when one game away from the SB when you have a HOF QB still playing at least a top 5-10 level signed to a 4-5 year contract and has given no indication of wanting to retire, while actually saying he'd want to play into his 40s. Plus, as you say he's a stubborn hard head with an ego and they should've known that and how he'd take this and act. Essentially, their assessment that he was declining to the point they might want to move on after 2021 and get out of the contract were wrong. That's what they were looking at doing and he's not stupid and now he's being a stubborn prick about it to spite them. Certainly see their logic and all that, but with hindsight it was clearly a huge mistake as of now (unless they end up being right about Love like the previous admin was about Rodgers). This likely turned another 3-4 years of championship contention into one year. But of course that can change if Love ends up being good. Weren't you just saying QBs hit a wall at 38? They were supposed to anticipate that Rodgers, clearly showing signs of decline by any objective measure prior to last season, was going to provide a title window all the way to 42? Also, we'll never know this answer, but I am calling enormous BS on "telling Rodgers about love" making a lick of difference. If they wanted Love, they can draft him, and if that makes Aaron upset, he can pound sand. This ticking him off when it's literally how he came to GB is hysterical. I mean for God's sake, his predecessor wanted to be in GB on the back of a 13-3 season and they ran with a guy without a career start. Botched? Seriously? Rodgers is a ticking time bomb. Outside of him retiring at 44 after winning the SB, he was destined to be crabby and pouty when this day came. It was unavoidable. He's in the bridge burning hall of fame. He had his chance to win the Super Bowl last year. It was llilterally in his hands to convert an opportunity. He should be most upset with himself this offseason, not the GM, not the president, not the janitor.
  14. I'm still unclear how the FO botched this. What exactly should they have done? Kept Alex Van Pelt? Asked permission to draft Love in the likely 5 minute period they made that decision? Rodgers isn't a reasonable person. There is a track record to support that.
  15. Without seeing the actual terms of the contract the money issue can't really be judged. "Highest paid" QB means little without the guaranteed money or at what point the Packers can wiggle out of it.
  16. QBs only fairly recently started playing that late and if they did, they weren't all that good. In the rare cases they were good, there is rarely an heir apparent on the roster due to the financial commitment you have to make to the position. I don't think the problem on the trade market is going to be that Rodgers isn't good or teams don't think he is good. The problem is going to be that it is league-known massive headache for the Packers now. It only takes 2 teams to drive the price up, but there's a point where you just get sick of dealing with it and have to move on. A lot has to go right for a team to step up. They need space to pay Aaron, presumably close to contention (though one could argue Tampa didn't look all that close in '19), and a spot he wants to play. Then they've got to be willing to abandon whatever QB plan they have going and give up some asset to get him.
  17. Half of the roster is pre-occupied with trying to remain a pro athlete. I don't think that a team in back-to-back NFCCG is going to be blown up from the inside because their old QB may not be playing a year later. I dislike Aaron Rodgers, but his head coach wrote him a love letter in the media in the middle of this. We can say what we want about his diva antics but he appears almost universally loved inside the building. I'm just not buying it. Of course if they do start 2-3, that will become the story in the media anyway.
  18. For the record, I don't think Rodgers is hitting any wall at 38 and I think he'll be quite good into his 40s if he wants to play. I fully expect him to be good for somebody else, but I still don't mind the Packers moving on on their own terms, not his.
  19. You're assuming Rodgers wants to be locked up for years. I'm not so convinced that he does. I'm also not comprehending the "risk." Rodgers had no power play and the Packers end up exactly where they wanted to be. Another run and likely moving on after the season. We're talking about a 40 year old, I don't think a one-year deal is really that big of a make-or-break thing. I don't know that the acquiring team will even want the multi-year commitment, but maybe Rodgers will. In either case I don't think that'll be a huge impediment. My personal guess? Rodgers wants his next landing spot to be the precursor to a media/TV/whatever Hollywood career. He's never going to say this, but Wisconsin is not that place. If ending badly means Rodgers plays somewhere else, yes it ends badly. I think at this point it's about 50/50 that they just part ways after the season and say all the right things publicly. Also not buying any clubhouse chemistry stuff. Rodgers hasn't had anything but public support from anybody that matters on the roster. I don't think most of them care at all about this.
  20. They paid for half the arena. While in a perfect world owners would pay for the entire purchase price of their new toy, it was, in reality, a fantasy proposal compared to what happens in the rest of the country. In the end, much like Miller Park, the new stadium was a slam dunk success and only after it's built do most people admit it was the right thing to do.
  21. He'd be going into his age 39 season and the Packers are in a cap mess. Everything has to come to an end eventually. Winning the SB this year would be as great of an ending as you could ask for.
  22. The more silly the gets I think Cobb will catch 9 passes and the Packers will win 9 games.
  23. We have to go sign his washed up friends to make him happy, lol. Surprised he didn't ask for Jordy Nelson.
  24. You're in a rebuilding of sorts without Rodgers whether or not Adams is around. I'm personally OK with Adams gone if Rodgers is gone. I guess it's possible to win a SB with Love and Adams but I'd guess it's not happening. If things really go upside down this season you can flip Adams in October for a 3rd or something.
  25. He apparently has been ticked for a couple years and the clubhouse was fine. He throws 4 TDs week 1 and this is dead and buried until the ensuing NFCCG loss.
