  1. Call me greedy all you want, I'd take the money without a 2nd thought. And that's knowing I would probably only see 50-60% of it by the time the government got their hands on it. Lol, same. I read the fine print the other day. It's about $187k pre-tax if you take the 30 year annuity and $3.2m if you take the lump sum.
  2. I picked Semien for Beat the Streak today. Two walks. Got me thinking. Supposed you are at 56 games and picked a guy against the Brewers, or just a guy from the Cubs or Cardinals. It's the last game of the season and it comes down to that guy's final AB for the $5.6 million, lol. Now ignoring that you put yourself in the position, would you want the $5.6 million to knock the Brewers out of the playoffs? I know my answer.
  3. This would be a really nice one to get. I was hoping for a 2-1 split in the Cubs/Cards series and we're getting one. I guess I want the Cubs today and then hopefully we take 2/3 from them. Too early to really matter, but we win today and things tighten even more before the help arrives.
  4. Maybe I'm in the minority but I thought last year that Anderson and Davies at least would go on to be productive in some way for them again. Just seemed like their arms fell off last year. I don't think Chase was a the sub-3 guy he had in first season with the Brewers, but I did think he was a decent player. Davies is what he is. I do hope that happens though. Anderson was a total gamer about his reduced role and while obviously was frustrated when they shut him down last year, he stuck it out when many, many other guys would've asked for trades or whined about it publicly. I have a lot of respect for him. Great teammate.
  5. I've literally not seen anyone say he's expected to do that. You just keep pretending everybody is.
  6. If people were expecting Ken Griffey Jr you'd see them clamoring for more than 3 starts a week. Get a grip. Seriously. Get a grip is exactly what I was going to say.
  7. I really couldn't care less because I don't think Dubon is going to do a thing in the majors.
  8. Imagine if we just got a reliable 2020 rotation arm for Jesus Aguilar. If we did, that's phenomenal.
  9. He has a point. They should have definitely traded Jesus for Syndergaard. That would have been a much better deal for us.
  10. How I see it as well. He was a bag of chips trade candidate. This guy has a chance.
  11. This seems like tremendous value. Maybe I'm way off.
  12. I think a good number of people are for it. Shaw is worthless though. Some are really clinging to "this team can get hot" and that they're still very much in things by way of a bad NL and bad NL Central. Sorry, I'm not pinning the staff on Grandal. They're not very good with anyone back there. Another problem is that the contenders have catchers. Their value isn't as high as people seem to think. At this point, I'd rather just keep them and go for lightning in a bottle. Cubs and Cardinals seem just as incapable of pulling away. My money is on STL.
  13. 6'6 6'3 6'4 6'3 6'4 6'5 6'3 6'5 6'3 6'3 Those are all guys that play front seven for the Packers. Martinez is 6'2 and the smallest. Most of them play up or down. Daniels is very clearly the odd man out compared to the rest of the group. He can pass rush, he was a very good player. But he clearly doesn't fit what Pettine likes.
  14. I think when Tom Silverstein essentially predicts that he's going to be traded in April and then he gets cut in July, there's very likely merit to the reasons he laid out for doing so. He really wasn't a part of their plans. I also haven't seen anyone diminish the player he was, but he is now 30 and in an entirely new scheme not suited to his skills. This really wasn't a shocking move.
  15. Daniels was definitely not coming back after this year. But what is it that people think Lowry or the rest of the DL can do that Daniels can't? This I don't get. He hasn't fallen off like Cobb. He had one down year, last year, and otherwise he's been healthy and durable and productive. I understand that it was 8 million probably better put towards future considerations and we have DL depth. But he was still their second best DL most likely. And unless you're talking about Gary, Za'Darius Smith, he can do pretty much whatever Dean Lowry or Adams can do. I do think that Daniels is in a really-really good position to succeed this year next to Damon Harrison in a 4-3. I could see him topping his previous career high for sacks. Harrison is such a monster, teams will have to double him, particularly in the run game, and Daniels will be there to clean up. First, of course it's cap related. If Daniels was making the vets minimum he wouldn't have been cut. What can Lowry and others do that Daniels can't? You got that question backwards, IMHO. What can Daniels do at $8MM that others can't? He is a run stuffer, period. There's still value in that in today's NFL, but not enough to justify $8MM for a few short yardage snaps every game. This is what I meant though, it's a pretty comical standard for calling it "cap-related." When I hear the term cap-related, I think of someone you would REALLY prefer to keep, but have to let go, like a Marco Rivera/Mike Wahle situation, where the roster is a mess and you have to get money off the books. I don't think this was quite that. I think they had an old regime guy who is a 1-D player. Dean Lowry is five years younger, 6 inches taller, and a versatile player who's improved every season. Of course, if he made the vet minimum, they'd keep him. But he just doesn't provide much in the defense they're running and they would be paying a lot of money for a strictly situational lineman.
  16. Cobb hasn't had 700 yards in his last three years. Hasn't had 1,000 in his last four. He's topped 1,000 once, which is incredible for the reputation he has. What's more disturbing than that is his precipitous drop is YPC since his one really good season. He gets hurt too much, and how many games does he play per year on some kind of bad hamstring/ankle/whatever? His age is also misleading since I believe he was drafted at age 20. There is a lot of mileage on those wheels. IMO he's going to be one of those guys with a couple preseason stories about how he "feels incredible" and "is in great shape" and is out of football in 2020.
  17. I don't think it's that absurd. Things happen. It made sense to let him go. I'd rather have someone admit they made a mistake and go get somebody they might need at a low price than be stubborn and refuse to do it to save face.
  18. If we're going to make moves at this point I'm happy they're nothingburgers like this. The deck is stacked against the Brewers right now I guess it's time you just keep Moose and Grandal on and hope some guys like this get flukey at the right time.
  19. Picked up a game on CHC. Hope for an STL loss. Brewers sit one back of both with more games played. Still July. Things don't look great with the injured pitchers, but I guess we're staying it for now? The Cubs schedule this week is STL and us. So there is going to be more movement one way or the other, most likely.
  20. 4 seems a little harsh for Davies. He doesn't blow anyone away but he's been a pretty productive SP for a while. I would say he's a solid 3 on a decent team, and can pass as a Great Value 2 when he's playing well.
