  1. I'm in camp no, but the Cubs had a 7-game lead in the loss column on August 28 last year.
  2. Man, that 2011 team was good. All this Lucroy talk sending me down memory lane. As much as last year stings, I never got the feeling they "should" have beaten the Dodgers and they definitely wouldn't have been favored to beat Boston. But that 2011 team was realistically the best in baseball.
  3. I don't particularly have any special love for Lucroy. I just thought his comments were benign and that it was within his rights to not go to Cleveland because of Gomes, because his ex gf lives there or because he didn't like the smell. It was an existing clause in his contract. Why players are just supposed to give up things in their personal interests just to be jolly old team players always blows my mind.
  4. I don't know how anyone could really know. It's a strange enough story to believe. If you were lying, you'd think you'd come up with a better one than that.
  5. It is due to the modicum of success they've had for the last decade. The city would be on fire with this kind of season in the mid 2000s. It's gotten a lot more people, and younger fans, involved with the Brewers, which is great. But one of the effects of that is going to be what you're talking about. People whose real experience with the team date back to 2011 or 2018 want people fired with anything short of that kind of success. You've seen this for a very long time, perhaps more justified, with Green Bay. When the team was in the playoffs for 8 straight years and getting to NFCCGs, it wasn't enough. Calls for firings, people "sick of the same old thing," etc. There was a time in their history as well when people just wanted a .500 team, but with a little bit of success the masses demand more.
  6. Kinda hard for me to imagine 85 or 86 wins and not making it. That should be enough. I don't think the division is really in play. Obviously, it is with 45 or so games to play and being 3 out, but I just don't see that happening. I would say they're 33% of being a Wild Card. The candidates I take seriously for WC2 are the Brewers, Cards and Phillies. If I have to give an answer I'd say they don't make it. If they suddenly have four guys in the bullpen who are lock-down for a month, then that changes everything.
  7. I don't think it was ridiculous at all. He wanted to to win, but probably wanted to be a close to every day catcher. That's pretty par for the course for most guys considered all stars at their position. He knew that was not going to be the deal in CLE. Of course, he kind of sucked, so it didn't happen in Texas either, but he had a shot to be there a few years if he had played well enough. He basically just worked the circumstances to end up somewhere he wanted to be. I don't know why the expectation should be that the players just do what the team wants when they're trying to unload them. The Brewers would have shipped him off to Shanghai if they could. It worked out great for MKE in the end, but I think he probably would've fallen off a cliff no matter where or what he wound up playing.
  8. It's cheesy and cool.
  9. It has to be better than not deferring it otherwise they wouldn't do it.
  10. The 5-game first round is probably the best thing the MLB playoffs have going for them. I still don't know how I really feel about the Wild Card. In the NL this year it's a good thing, but I still have a bit of a problem in situations where WC1 wins like 97 games and has to play an 83-win team for one game.
  11. I don’t get this comment. Maybe I missed something, but I always thought of Lucroy as a model citizen. I remember him supporting Braun a lot after the “exoneration” and then having quite a bit of egg on his face for the “un-exoneration” (though he wasn’t the only one). He also had to endure a massive amount of vitriol directed towards his wife after the suitcase incident, which was absolutely disgusting, even in this day and age. I’ve always liked him for this, and don’t get why some people dump on him now, except for the shirt he currently wears. Is that it? Some were bitter that he rejected a trade to Cleveland, but I think it was just a veiled way of being angry that someone dared to want out of Milwaukee. It was funny when he vetoed it and then Cleveland nearly won the World Series, but it was silly at the time and still is now. Cleveland was on his no-trade list prior to the deal being made. The Brewers were depending on him to waive the clause to go to a place he didn't want to go from the start. The Brewers knew it was a stretch, which was reflected in Counsell's and Stearn's comments when it fell through. So, people basically held it against him that he exercised something pre-negotiated years prior in his contract. You're not supposed to use the things you negotiate for apparently. Then of course there are the multitude of other reasons a person may not want to go to a certain place, not the least of which was that the Indians had an injured Yan Gomes who was younger than Lucroy and making more.
  12. If the bullpen reinforcements continue to play as well as they have, the Brewers are somehow well positioned to make the playoffs. It never gets less shocking to say out loud because the season really feels like a dumpster fire until you look at the standings. I've felt all year like they should be 5-10 games under .500 but they've somehow managed to tread water.
  13. Also made one of my favorite plays of all time
  14. This could be really big. Bigger than one would think.
  15. I just think Kizer is really bad, and he's still around because of his draft status. QB genius Mike McCarthy loved him and so I don't see the new staff as having any commitment to him at all. Maybe he makes it, IDK, but all those guys are just guys. I would just be really happy with anyone, like Fitzpatrick (I know he's starting right now for someone else) that has been productive as a QB. Someone you can hope to go 2-2 with if Rodgers breaks something. I think if he gets clearly outplayed in the games, he'll get cut. Doesn't seem like they want to lose Manny Wilkins. He's probably another guy, but coaches fall in love with all kinds of weird QBs. My baseless guess is that only one of Boyle/Kizer is kept around. Wilkins stays on as QB3 or gets signed to the PS. If he gets snaps in the preseason and looks good, they may have to keep him.
  16. BA has lived in Hartland for 12 years now. I think Milwaukee is more than a job site at this point. While it's fair to say the Brewers "let" him do stuff, I think it's a safe bet he would be gone by now if he wanted to be. He signed an extension in 2017. He could have easily found somewhere else to be. Pretty sure he's beyond waiting for a big job at this point.
  17. Think the Cubs have the best team but that doesn't always do it. Also think we have the worst pitching of the three, but who knows, maybe the snoozer trades will end being what they needed. Just hope it's fun to the last week.
  18. There are 45 games left and they are what, .5 behind the Brewers or something? They're mediocre like the other six teams bunched in the middle. Any of them could be wild cards. Only the Cubs seem to be separating into a lock position.
  19. They were a few games over .500 before that, hard to believe. Meanwhile it's possible the Brewers end the night tied for WC2. Just about as hard to believe. This season feels like such a struggle. Almost every win seems so hard fought, or a constant playing from behind.
  20. I wish the Packers would invest in an actual backup QB just once. I know that would be too much capital in one position. But it seems fairly likely Rodgers will miss time. I doubt Kizer makes the team being an old regime guy. There's always some hot no name out of camp but I would love to enter a season with a Ryan Fitzpatrick type guy one year.
  21. We went from people saying the team quit to this in 4 days... so baseball. That's why I said it. Lose to them with last year's team and trounce them with the infirmary team.
  22. You responded to literally every post. Not sure how that constitutes "listening to myself talk." You're a troll, and you've done nothing in this thread but troll. If you're such a stickler for the rules, you should probably begin to follow them.
  23. I will say that examples are probably not great since neither one pertained to a sexual crime. There was scandal and other alleged crimes there but nothing that really parallels this one. That said, it was still a very benign statement and your reaction was way over the top. If the purpose of that rule is to avoid things going off the rails it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to enforce it while pushing things off the rails.
  24. Not really seeing that as bringing politics in. It's just a fact, that president today and the president in 1999 were both mired in sexual scandals in which the women weren't believed at the start. Seemed pretty civil other than you going off the rails for some odd reason. Both were very high profile and the latter is arguably the most front-and-center example in history. It didn’t need to be said. Much like this post. We had a mod re-open the thread and asked us not to go there. There isn’t a need for it. Like MrTPlush said, there are plenty of other ways to deliver a point without bringing us into that world. Wasn't aware you are the purveyor of "what needs to be said," lmao. The only one that really didn't need to be said, was, frankly, yours. It wasn't going off the rails at all, and honestly, it just seems like you really wanted it to. Seemed a little too trigger happy there.
