  1. There were many things to pick. But I'm honestly saying Knebel going down. It put tremendous stress on the pen from the get-go. Just having that blue-chip arm to take some pressure off Hader would've been huge. Hader could have been used more like he was last year instead of forcing him to close so often. Knebel is also really the only guy on the staff that's been good for quite some time. There's real dependability there, even though he has bad stretches like every other player. But none of the other things really stand out to me like that injury. Bad things and bad personnel moves happen every year. He was a huge loss, no matter what WAR says.
  2. Nah, they are. I couldn't care less. But no hitters don't really pique my interest either. Perfect game or let me sleep.
  3. I feel like we've stuck the fork in this team about 75 times. But barring a comeback tonight, I really can't see them making any noise without winning the next two. I also feel like any objective outsider would laugh about this team being in the postseason. But here I am, still clinging to the ship.
  4. If you're going to throw out your back you might as well do it hitting a HR.
  5. Gotta be weird being one of those many players who get called up once or twice in their entire career. You get to the top, maybe even get in a game, and spend years toiling away in the minors. I can't imagine what it's like knowing you got that close to having such a drastically different life. It's no wonder so many ex players have a certain bitterness toward the game or feel like they never got their shot.
  6. Great teams can drop 2 or 3 to the Marlins on the wrong weekend. We're average, so it's not that surprising to me. I really don't get caught up in record/team match ups with baseball. What's funny about this season is that I think most people thought we were going to see a STL-CHC-MKE slug fest where the win totals dropped, but the baseball was good. We've basically seen that except the last part, the baseball hasn't been all that great and it's probably the worst division in baseball unless you want to argue the NL West without the Dodgers.
  7. I think the number of wins people think it will take to get WC2 is way high. I will be absolutely shocked if WC2 has 90 wins. I am thinking more like 85-86. After deciding that was my guess, I went and looked at what CHC is on track for...and it's 86. I think if the Brewers win 87 they'll be in. No idea if they will do it, but leaning no.
  8. Not sure where to put this and don't want to make a new thread, but the SSH playoff strip/renewal went out this week and noticed in some of the fine print that they are doing away with 25% retail on SSH nights. Food and beverage remains discounted, but you will have to spend $100 to get $25 off, and the % offer appears to be gone in 2020. That's extremely disappointing.
  9. Cedric Benson is dead at 36 after a motorcycle crash in Austin last night.
  10. If we make the playoffs/win Central this will be the game everyone looks back on.
  11. Well, either way our pen is taxed heading into tomorrow. The good news is, it can't get worse.
  12. What's also absolutely ridiculous is that last year's team was SIX games out of first 11 DAYS LATER than today.
  13. Idk...this is just...one of those games that makes you feel like this team really doesn't belong in the playoffs.
  14. Hands tied. They all stink, and nobody is reliable. The most reliable guy at present is Matt Albers. This pen is beyond the situational stuff. They're desperate for anyone to get outs in any inning. It doesn't matter who you pick because everybody has blown it at one time or another.
  15. This team has had a real problem firing on both cylinders this year. They can lock down a lot of offenses and score a bunch of runs but almost never at the same time.
  16. I never had any until either until I got married. She was always drinking it, now I really enjoy it. I can only have one cup though or I get the shakes.
  17. Ryan Braun was probably the most impressive player yesterday. Guys were swinging out of the zone pathetically often. I get Corbin is good, but there were ABs that were almost entirely on pitches out of the zone. Guys just couldn’t resist swinging even when obvious they weren’t going to get good pitches unless they had some discipline. 11/18 of their outs with Corbin on the mound were on pitches outside the zone. It would be even uglier if you counted the pitches they went after outside the zone vs. in the zone. This is why his albatross contract still doesn't really bother me. I'd rather have the untied money, but that deal could be so much worse. He is still a productive player and a professional AB almost always. I'm not saying it's ideal, but I still always feel like when he comes up to bat when you need a hit, he's at least going to make the pitcher work. I've just never dreaded his spot in the order like I have with so many over the years.
  18. I don't think a degree is needed to make a sitcom or to write a song. I still believe college is pushed way too much especially for things you don't need a degree for. Do you really need to go to school for 4-years to paint a picture? Do you really need to go to school to write a novel? Even going to school for business is iffy to me. A lot of people have been successful and have not gone to college or have dropped out. College has just become way too expensive compared to what you actually get from it. All of what you're saying is true, but people really romanticize not needing college to do arts careers. The fact is that most of the people doing this stuff on the big stage went through strenuous educational training. It's extremely hard to break in to entertainment without that training, just because of the networking capabilities of those schools. I have family in acting in SoCal and music in Nashville, and they all went to big time music/entertainment colleges. Bruno Mars doesn't need college, but the team of 500 people packaging his brand usually do. Other careers won't even bother talking to somebody who didn't go to portfolio/theater school. People do succeed without that pedigree, but it is enormously helpful if you can get it. They do provide training, but really the value is in the network. The costs are high and college is pushed way too hard, but there is still a huge value if you can make it work. And really, the debt someone accumulates getting a decent state degree is sometimes the cost of a car. Over a lifetime, it still usually isn't significant enough that not going is better - for most.
  19. Seems like every year we have a "deep position" where we then up sucking all year after one guy gets hurt.
  20. Alaska. My parents knocked a lot of them off via road trips. I still really want to get out there, but once I had kids I figured I'd wait until they were older, like 10-15, and rent an RV and go through it.
