  1. Imagine the Brewers being 42-37 in 2004, with something to play for at the ASB, and someone suggests trading the MVP on pace for 60 HRs.
  2. I really like Gamel. I'm always surprised his stats aren't better though. He just seems to be in an awful lot of big plays...his eye test is just really good so I always think he's doing better than he is.
  3. Really? Which team plays 81 games in Miller Park besides the Brewers? Half the league doesn't bat pitchers. I'm with whoever said they don't want a cap. Small teams have won consistently. We have to be better.
  4. This is just it, but it requires more than a knee jerk reaction so nobody really brings it up. Our problem is Corbin Burnes and Jimmy Nelson, it's not Yasmani Grandal.
  5. In a sport where the field is literally a different size in every stadium I'm not sure this is strongest argument.
  6. the explanation is the Braves and Cubs have more resources than the Brewers. I know that's not an explanation people want to hear, but that's the explanation. It is amazing to me how quick Brewer fans are to bail out management by saying they don't have any money, you can't expect them to compete with the Atlanta Braves!! We are a small market team. Draft and develop. Man, I want to own a team in a market where the fans are like we just can't afford anybody. It's unbelievable. What always been more amazing to me actually is how people act like singing someone like Kimbrel is like flicking on light switch and purely a matter of will. Like if you really want him, you can just get him and nobody else is trying to do it. I'm not directing this at you, but I'm frankly exhausted of the Mark A is a cheapo vs. Milwaukee is small debate. Just totally exhausted and bored by it.
  7. Maybe it's the fan in me but I still have this feeling the Brewers have a 15-5 stretch in them at some point this season. I just see to much talent and an inability to hit their stride. Sometimes that occurs for an entire season. But I still have hope they can get this thing going.
  8. Stanley Cup is the best one, not even a question IMO. But I actually like the WS trophy.
  9. Yes, I know about google and all it's magic, but I was looking for recommendations from people on this board who have tried multiple places and which ones they liked most. It still helps as you can find Yelp reviews and other reviews of the bars and restaurants. What is the point of acting like this? The guy asked a really simple, innocuous question. Also, your sacred Yelp is a pretty god-awful website. For all your brilliance you must have missed that it's been absolutely swarmed in scandal for years. Online reviews are useful but flawed. I've lost count of the number of times I've read something like "The food was good we had to wait an hour for an open table, 2 stars."
  10. Second the Ice House. It was sold? I was in there two weeks ago and it was still Bruce and Dorothy. Beer is cheap, food is cheap, and actually homemade - the pizza crusts, the burgers, all is hand made there, not delivered frozen. Shuttle is great and runs often, and when you get back at end of game it is a great spot not full of traffic and an easy on/off from freeway. It's a classic dive bar.
  11. I expected the win total to drop, I think most people did. What has been frustrating about this team is that they are basically one notch above middling, and there is blame to go around everywhere. The SP, which has looked really bad at times especially early on, solidified nicely and for example was not why they just got swept by San Diego. Despite that, the offense is just way too streaky. Especially for one with as many good, experienced major league hitters as it has. There's been this 6-7 games over .500 hump that they just haven't been able to break out of, because they're never firing on all cylinders. They did just get to +10, and you thought with the teams coming up it was going to be the time to separate from some other teams, but instead they do the same stuff again, bats disappear, and we're back at +6. So, I'm basically at a point of thinking this team is either merely just good, or has a really hot streak coming at some point. I do get the feeling CHC is going to have much better 2nd half than first. Their record does not matter much to me, they just have to get to the playoffs, and at that point, it's anyone's game. There are countless incidents where a team in the 80s takes out the top regular season team, so I really couldn't care less. But to me a successful season is the playoffs. Not the play-in game, the actual playoffs. Anything beyond that has such a luck element to it I don't really think the outcome is fair to pin on anybody.
  12. I just got a notification that Machado homered to put SD up 5-1. Then a minute later it says Braun doubled, 3-3. I'm not watching, but wha?
  13. Ball and Ingram will be nice pieces to supplement Zion. I'd be excited if I were a Pelicans fan. Those guys are really, really young. There is plenty of room for them to grow.
  14. We gotta wait on this. Dude hasn't played MLB in two years. This is pretty much exactly what I expected. I won't even think about re-evaluating until he's thrown 5 games.
  15. Still fully expect STL to make it interesting
  16. Thompson and Durant tear ACLs. Oof.
  17. I'm only saying that when a record stands for 100 years it's a good sign the game has changed drastically and it likely won't ever be toppled. Like Gretzky's records that he himself has said aren't good measures of today's players because he never had to deal with backside pressure when he played. But yes, relative to his era he was insane.
  18. Is it really though. I'm sure we can find some record that still stands from Johnny Sweet Shot in the NBA's first season. I just don't care for cross-generation comparisons. I don't need to go beyond an eye test to know Babe Ruth wouldn't be in majors today. And that's fine and I don't say it to discredit him. I still count the Packers 20s championships, but I just don't equate them with what the Patriots are doing. It's just totally incomparable. It's a feat of greatness in the 20s, but I don't find it more impressive because it still stands today.
  19. The men's team may embarrass us but they are paid better for reasons other than being men.
  20. That list was made in 1999, but I think I found the article it was pulled from and that was from 2017, so, made by a very lazy writer in 2017.
  21. It's also funny to point out that the Thailand national team (yes, the women) beat Indonesia last year, you guessed it, 13-0.
  22. This same pouring it on conversation would be happening if it were men. They're just wrong there. Usually there is merit to those arguments, but people would be saying it with men.
  23. List is missing Manny and Big Papi who did it in 2004 and 2005. When I saw the list I knew they'd have to be on it so went back and looked. I also thought A-Rod and Teixeira would be, but the latter never actually hit 40.
  24. When Alex Morgan retires her little career summary will have a section for World Cup goals. Nobody will really remember that she scored 5 vs. Thailand, it'll just be a nice boost to her "World Cup" stats. Have at it.
