  1. I don't think that's a very good argument at all considering that Alabama has first dibs on 75% of the county's top players. If you're a stud you're going there or Clemson and that ilk unless you're a local kid with a dream to stay local. Playing at Alabama certainly hasn't hurt anybody's chances of going pro. I think fans have a tremendous bias and tendency to assume every local kid wants to stay local. Many don't. Many want to get out of a place like Wisconsin. It is just not a razzle dazzle location and that matters to a lot of kids. People dream of California and Texas football, Wisconsin just doesn't have that kind of pull. This is all simply to say that if a teenager has been dreaming of warm weather, the beach, big cities etc., the pitch from UW is going to do little to change his mind...UW has thrived with a lot of local kids, but they're usually second tier recruits. That's who they are and for the most part, who they're going to be. They'll get Frank Kaminsky now and then when scouts get things wrong, but the Diamond Stone types are more often than not going some place else. Mega prospects are staying local when their local school is a power school. I'd guess the UW recruits getting schollies from Kentucky are few and far between.
  2. I think people assume way too often that UW should get anybody good from the state. If I had been a D1 star athlete, I'm going to Florida or Arizona for the women and weather. If I was really elite, I'd be going to Kentucky, Alabama, etc. UW cannot compete with a blue chip guy against schools like that. Madison is a lovely place, and it's a lovely school, but there are plenty of reasons somebody would want to leave. If you're 18 and from WI you may just want to try something new.
  3. The bobblehead nerd group I'm in saw this coming for quite some time. I have all the bobble games in my SSH package, but obviously it's Yelich. And the things I mentioned above just kicked it into overdrive. But you can be certain they scheduled this one when they did on purpose, and not in April in May. They knew it would be a monster.
  4. It's not as if they draw poorly on other weekends. But it's likely a good weather Sunday, the first weekend school is out for just about everyone, and the eBay crowd will want their hands on extras.
  5. I don't think Shaw is done. In fact I was taking a few punches from a certain someone around here in regards to thinking he is still pretty good but has a problem right now. I just meant that until you have reason to believe Shaw has rediscovered himself, you cannot send Hiura down for him and claim you're "all in."
  6. Happ would give Giannis some confidence at the line.
  7. I think it's within the Brewers' rights, however, you cannot straight-faced say "We're all in" and then send him down for Travis Shaw to play third.
  8. Hell hath no fury like a scorned NCAA fan. I'm not into the NCAA really passionately so I've always seen this from the backseat. But the vitriol people have for 17 year olds who back out of commitments is truly sickening. Badgers fans treated Diamond Stone like a pedophile for going to Maryland. And there almost always ends up being a narrative about said player could never have made it academically at UW because every athlete there is a genius. BUT I don't think Gard losing players he never had is the nail in his coffin. Bo Ryan, for all his legendary status, left a recruiting nightmare in his lap. His last several classes were absolutely terrible. Maybe Gard isn't the guy but I don't think the Hausers are really a reflection of him.
  9. They pull this crap constantly. This is a team that won a World Series going 83-78. You never sleep on the Cardinals until they're eliminated.
  10. You have to be a little realistic and give them some leeway. Chattanooga and Montana can't be expected to win things as often as Alabama etc. But IMO where the NCAA really sucks, is for the teams that are big enough to be on the radar a lot but just won't ever get the blue chip recruits. Like Wisconsin. I'm never been really engaged in anything NCAA, but that is a big reason why. Football in particular is an absolute snooze fest. We're 11-1 and headed to the 6th place Bowl. Yippee.
  11. Anyone else getting really excited about the trajectory of this team? The pitching is really rounding out nicely, Jimmy hasn't even come back yet, you have to think there will be at least one semi-substantial move to improve the major league team yet...and I just feel really good about out-lasting the Cubs again. It should be a great summer. I still feel like their best baseball is ahead of them and despite that, they're right in this.
  12. In the last 30 days Brewers starting pitchers are 10-5 with a 3.04 ERA (3rd best in MLB). They have also allowed 0.93 HR/9 (6th in MLB) and have allowed less than a hit per inning. They started the season terrible and have solidified very nicely.
  13. I know we don't do +1's, but I would here. Yeah, everyone would rather win those games. But I'll be that if you sat down with Steelers fans or some other fanbase like that, they'd have a similar story about leaving a dynasty on the field or something. Really, we are spoiled as sports fans. I guess I don't disagree with the desire and feeling that we need to win a couple more titles and perhaps should have won more, but we really are lucky overall. I personally haven't really been lamenting the teams. Just how they lose. I'd rather get blown out like the Packers did against the Falcons than do what they did in Seattle. I was over that Atlanta game by halftime. The Seahawks game had me in a funk for 2-3 weeks. I still haven't actually seen whats his name catch the TD in OT and I still don't really like talking about. I'd rather get blown out. Someone on the Packers that season said the same thing. Think it was Sitton or Lang.
  14. And speaking of real heartbreak, Bart Starr has passed. What a life and a great man.
  15. 4th and 26 and the debacle in Seattle are all-timers. For those to happen to the same team in a fairly short period of time, I still think is remarkable. Somehow, I think they outdid 4th and 26 with that Seattle game. I've never seen anything like that. 10 things had to go wrong in 5 minutes and every one of them did. Toss in Rodgers kicking a fumble into a DL's hands in 09 and then completing a hail mary to essentially lose on the first play of OT, I have a hard time believing anybody in the NFL can a hold a candle to those 15 years. We got one, and good thing we did or else our ineptitude would be a bigger story than it is.
  16. Well, we'll be back is all we have. It's either that or the we suck forever pout fest. I won't read anything into Giannis. One person in the world knows what he's going to do and that's him. Everything else is noise. I learned a long time ago to not trust anything they say or do until it's time to sign a deal. That relationship could sour in a year. You just don't know. Honestly, the biggest thing outside of the Bucks own roster management is that Leonard leaves Toronto. That would make things a lot less muddy if he goes to the Clippers or something. Boston will retool and others will step up and backwards. But we'll have a 50 win competitor and that's reason for hope.
  17. I imagine if we compared results with most places we'd be in the upper half of most cities if you took 50 years or something. But the ways in which the Packers have lost playoff games since about 1997 has been pretty ridiculous. I won't concede that or believe it's bias from being a fan. They've been ripping our hearts out in January for quite some time. They rarely get run out of the building but are almost always on the wrong end of a future NFL films special. The Dallas game is the only one I can remember winning. Well, and the we want the ball and we're gonna score game. We all know what happened the week after.
  18. They've been immensely successful in broad terms. But it's just a fact. 2003 2007 2009 2011 they're 15-1 and go one and done 2013 2014 2015 I would call all of those losses heartbreaking. Pretty weird.
  19. What I thought doesn't make something a choke or not. I thought the Packers could beat the Rams one year and Favre threw six picks. I'm just some guy. In the emotion of being up 2-0 I thought the Bucks had this thing. But in hindsight look at the battles on Kawhi's resume. On Gasol's, on Lowry's. Years of these situations. What did we have? George Hill? We coulda won, sure. Should've maybe. But I can't really call it a choke. In retrospect we never really had control, ever, outside of the second game.
  20. Some of these are borderline. The 2014 NFCCG is the worst. The 01 ECF probably doesn't belong. They lost to a 1 seed in 7 games. Packers-Giants, meh, they beat the Pats. That team was good. A lot like the Packers team that won the SB. Packers-Falcons, another instance of the Packers WAY overachieving with a pretty weak team and just running out of a gas against one that was a lot better. 2011 is a lot worst to me than 2018 for the NLCS. The Brewers had the best team in baseball in 2011, imo. I can't call this Bucks series a choke. They had a blowout win a Game 1 win where the Raps really outplayed them and Lopez dropped 30. Once the Raptors settled in they really had their way. That roster is just so much more seasoned than ours, in hindsight, what unfolded just isn't a big shock to me. We've had competitive teams. I'd rather have this than the Bucks 41-41 purgatory. Winning titles is hard. Oh well. I'm excited. I want a flex plan at Fiserv next year. At least NBA offseason is short. But, I'll admit, the Packers are really underrated in terms of heartbreaking losses in the playoffs. Really an insane run of them for about 20 years. We did win a couple titles, but when we lost, man was it typically painful.
  21. That's ideal, but I couldn't sit up there for a press conference after a big loss like that. A heart breaking loss that we choked away. Edit-I'm not saying you're wrong, I just honestly understand it, and it doesn't bother me as much as you because that's part of what gives Giannis that "edge." I get it. I just would have preferred to see him sit up there and fight through it and own this experience completely. Not sure if you guys know this yet...but the reporter leaked a story immediately after the game that Giannis is likely to leave MKE if there is no Finals run in 2020. That's who asked the question. He got pissed and left. Rightfully.
  22. Toronto took Middleton out of this series basically. It was a good play. They tag teamed Giannis and he still had production, but he worked hard for everything and never really killed them. With Middleton out of the picture Bledsoe had to be big and he was mostly terrible. They basically let the rest of the guys do whatever. It only backfired.one night Lopez pulled a rabbit out of his hat. But for the most part it was take the best shooter out of the game and make either Giannis go superhuman or force a role player to have a big night. It never happened besides the one time Lopez had one. I don't think they thought we could do it four times. They were right
  23. I think Golden State will win, but I don't think it's going to be as one sided as you do. Green and AI2 are going to have to have big series. Kawhi is going to make life miserable for Klay and Lowry isn't going to be able to check Steph, but he can make it tough on him. Serge and Gasol will also make life tougher on them. I think they'll get crushed. We dont have shooters half as good. Toronto's lane blocking won't save them when Steph and Klay are chucking bombs over it. If KD is able to play, LOL. I'm biased. But I think a series with the Bucks would've been a lot more entertaining than the fart we're about to get.
  24. You're chances to win if you foul are probably....6-8 pct. Your chances if you DON'T foul have to be about 1 pct. You extend the game. I love what Bud did this year, but that was the dumbest thing I've seen since Giannis went for a layup instead of a 3 a few years ago with a few seconds left down 3. But he was 21 or 22 at the time, so hard to really fault him. Call me a 1% idiot but I liked it. Those guys hit 90% of their throws. You're not achieving anything fouling and going down 4 with 20 seconds left. And that's if they miss which they likely won't You're still in miracle territory...and it worked! If the Bucks grab that miss they're down three, call timeout, with 8 seconds left. You can't ask for better than that. I was glad right away when I saw they were just gonna let it ride and hope to get a stop and a three. The endless foul fest hoping for multiple misses and multiple trips down the court, just hate watching it and don't think it really does anything.
