I'm inclined to agree. I keep hearing that the Cubs can't keep the pace up offensively, which is probably correct, but that doesn't solve any problems as far as how terrible this offense is. Or the reality that we have a lot to look up at right now that isn't the Cubs, too. We have a major reliance on youth right now and it's showing. It's definitely an off year. -
I think they were correct in complaining, ended up not mattering at all. There is no rule you have to run straight down the line and he has been running way outside from the beginning of the play.

We got a break on that call. He had definitely established that outside running lane and I am not sure at all that he was tagged, so if they hadn't called that he sure looked safe. And there it is - moot anyway.

Agreed. His contract carries him through 2026. He enters UFA at 32, the age at which the Packers kiss you goodbye. The agent knows this and knows that he won't get paid at 32 by anybody either. Not like he would be today. Packers should stand their ground on this. Don't rework anything. He'll get pissed and leave in FA like they want him to anyway.

The first 5 days of the season don't tell you much about anybody. To be honest, seeing the Packers SOS ranking near the top (I've always kinda thought preseason SOS is dumb), they got really lucky with the shakeout of the games. They got a lot of the tougher ones at home, and I'd prefer playing these two really early in the year. I don't see a single game on there as unwinnable; for example if they had played @Philly I'd pencil that in as a loss today. I'm sure they'll drop games, but overall things are pretty favorable for them.

This isn't going to affect anybody in any real way other than LeBron types. It will keep them from facing consequences six years after somebody finds out they were secretly given a Cadillac. The WI HS state player of the year isn't getting a deal from Harley Davidson. Only the absolute mega stars will see anything substantial. -
Was reading about Nick Chubb and a clickhole led me to Emmanuel Wilson...had no idea he ran for 500 yards last year at nearly 5 a pop.

Jaire coming back sounds great, until you remember that he has played 1/3 of the defensive snaps for 3 of the last 4 seasons. His health is as big of a question mark as his happiness.

Jrue was severely limited offensively. He was capable of your 38-point game here and there but he would go 4-of-18 all the time. This dynamic worked when Middleton was healthy because he was someone who could generate his own offense. Once Middleton was cooked and never there (see 2022 East Semi), it was basically what you have today. It's a horse a piece on different ends of the floor. Giannis and Dame don't work because both need the ball in their hands; Giannis and Jrue don't work because neither one is a reliable jump shooter. I'm aware Giannis added that a bit to his game this year, but I mean once he's walled off and draws too much defense, Jrue isn't the guy to take any heat off, at least not consistently enough. Of all the things to blame the Bucks for, this isn't one of them IMO. It was obvious they needed more offensive star power. They swung for the fence, but they missed. He has a dream setup in Boston where he doesn't need to be relied upon to score pretty much at all, but is still highly effective.

Nope. I'm the guy who said they're a top 10 team, not a Super Bowl team, and unlikely to win their stacked division. A couple of posters had their feelings hurt over this and made a strawman that this means they suck. I don't see the Brewers as a World Series team, but capable of a good season. Since the leagues are about as different as imaginably possible, the two teams really don't have the same metric for what's a good season nor should they have the same expectations for what's reasonable. But why don't we not discuss the Packers in a thread called NL Central, and leave this thinly veiled goading crap out of it?

Every move they have made beginning with firing Bud and since, has been a desperation move. Bud should have been kept if they were going to land Dame. I don't know that they win anything, but I am nearly 100% certain it goes better than it has. Kuzma was a classic "Well we have to do something." I am indifferent as to trading Middleton. His career is effectively over. He can be a 15mpg guy for someone somewhere, but he's not a star anymore. And everyone knows they are desperate, thus likely why they had to toss in something to get...Kuzma 🤮

Two minutes? It was 35 seconds. That absolutely should be safe. Kuzma sucks, you're right. But Middleton is cooked. This series was not a Middleton away from winnable.

Again, there was NO PLAY drawn up at the end of regulation. It was pass to Giannis and let him do whatever. It was idiotic as a) he was double teamed b) if he gets fouled, he can't shoot c) someone was open by means of said double team.

These last few years have really been a shame. Giannis has put together some crazy statistical seasons, and they can't escape the first round. Just as a basketball fan it sucks, because he's too iconic of a player to not have any iconic playoff games the last few years and likely not again until he's somewhere else.

When I need a game-winning shot, I definitely want Giannis shooting a fadeaway from the baseline into two defenders...

Honestly, I might have more fun rooting for Giannis on a contender than I would watching him lead the Bucks to 44 wins. As long it's not like Indiana, LA or Miami, I'm fine with it.

I didn't say you said he was a bust. I don't think you said he was a bust. But if we are giving "passes" on Eric Stokes for being hurt, Javon Walker certainly deserves one as he had already reached star status in his 3rd year. He produced, but more than that he was a 6'3 215lber that ran a 4.38 and was a triple jumper at FSU. Jordy Nelson was a great player. I think Jennings was really good, but a notch below Nelson. Jennings was soft as a cupcake, avoided contact in any context he could, and never had Jordy's other-worldly instincts. I don't think there was a better back-shoulder WR in the NFL than Jordy. But they didn't have the measurables or talent that Javon Walker did, and I think that's significant when the topic is the Packers drafting first rounders. Walker was precisely the kind of talent that people have wanted the Packers to grab in the 1st round. I don't really believe that Jennings or Nelson do what they did without Rodgers, though I don't think Nelson ever got the respect he deserved around the league, because, well, you know. I think they're good in their own right, but I do believe Walker would have been a star just about anywhere if healthy. Clearly, Jennings, Nelson and Driver had more productive careers, but I don't think any of the 3 are the prototype that Walker was.
