  1. I don't see anyone signing up for another year of 2025 Ortiz.... I do see: People speculating if he can return to 2024 Ortiz (about average bat with +defense) Comparing 24-25 Ortiz to others to point out that there are limited options to upgrade (though upgrading on 2025 Ortiz alone is much easier) Considering where Ortiz did hit well (e.g. against LHP) to consider platoon options. Considering if Pratt or Made might be ready next year. But nice strawman argument...
  2. It's been like that for two weeks. Fitzpatrick is the primary in-line blocker. Whyle tends to be more of a FB (or move TE blocker). Musgrave is more obvious passing downs. But even then, seems like Whyle is getting more targets. Though all of them are getting a mix of everything. Musgrave just doesn't do anything really well...
  3. Exactly. I didn't say they were the same (or even similar) pitchers. I said they had similar results Gray: 4.28 ERA and 1.4 WAR (180.2 IP) Quintana: 3.96 ERA and 1.3 WAR (131.2 IP) Now, swap the defenses they pitch in front of, and the results will change. And of course Sonny is the better pitcher. But the point was that Gray is getting $20M from Boston and Quintana got $4.5M last year (and is available without needing to trade for him).
  4. I wonder what Quintana will sign for? Sonny pitched more innings last year, but otherwise they pretty much had the same results for the same age.
  5. When is KPJ coming back?
  6. I don't think that would be wise money for the Packers. As good as Willis has been, I don't want to see a ton of money wrapped up in the backup QB when you have so much in the starting QB. Maybe the guy can take another step as a starter (especially as a passer). He is an ideal backup because he is a bit of a wild card. When your defense is setup to stop a pass-first QB and a QB with good scrambling capabilities comes in, it really throws your D off.
  7. And the Bears nearly lost to the Raiders, Commanders, NYG, Bengals, Vikings, and Steelers (with a backup QB)... *checks notes* that is 6 of your 7 wins...
  8. He was averaging around 31-32% CS rate prior to the injury and 19% at AAA last year. Perhaps he never bounces back to the level he had (which was pretty high), but I wouldn't be surprised if this year is much better. I'd assume the Brewers will bring in some competition for ST at least and see where he is then.
  9. You could also say that he will be still 27 for half the season (July)... 😂 I think the main question is which Joey will we see this year? Last year's 66 OPS+ or the prior year's 102 OPS+? Somewhere between? I don't think he will "develop" anything more than those two extremes but having him bounce back to being a league average bat would be a great offseason development. And given this will be a prime year for him... not really out of the realm of possibilities either. There aren't many FA options that would be better anyway... If Made keeps tearing the hide off the baseball at AA and Joey is the 2025 version of Joey, I wouldn't shock me to see Made come up late in the season just to see what he could do. More likely we stick with Joey at the start of the season and if he is bad, make a trade for a rental SS.
  10. I have to admit that I feel bad for McCarthy. He must've felt really bad about his play; his mascara was running really badly. I compared him to Christian Ponder with several of my Viking friends. They weren't too happy about it... but no one would debate it either.
  11. Yeah, I saw similar posts about his "debut" (how quickly they forgot he actually played in the last game?) and then crowing about him leading the Browns to victory. Then I saw the stats... yikes. If his last name was Johnson, no one would care...
  12. After the season Jake had last year, I don't understand this take at all... Black hasn't been able to beat out Bauers (even the previous year's poorer version). Jake continues to improve, is a good defensive 1B, a good PH... Yet, you want to go back to scrap heap pickings? Unless he really breaks out next year, I'd bet this is his last year (doing a second year of arbitration for a then 31yo backup 1B that gains less than 1.0 WAR is unlikely). But I don't think we will find a cheaper LH 1B that will outhit Jake this year either.
  13. It certainly didn't help Nixon... Wyatt moving backwards cushions the blow some... moving forward increased the impact quite a bit. Just the way it came it about, it looked oddly intentional by Brinson rather than reactive....
  14. Is it just me?
  15. Love looked much better against the blitz (pretty much a requirement when playing Brian Flores), but not sure MLF trusts him yet with so many run plays. Please, please stop running the ball on EVERY 1st down. So stinking predictable! Interesting game for a couple of rookies as Belton played the whole second half at RG. Perhaps a better spot for him anyway? Morgan's inability to win a starting spot is discouraging, but he never struck me as a G anyway. Kamal Hadden had a very nice, quiet game. Even with McCarthy as the QB, he'd be throwing Hadden's way if his WR was open, but both he and Valentine (and Nixon prior to getting hurt) played well against a good trio of WRs. Speaking of Nixon getting hurt, did anyone else see Brinson push Wyatt in the back as Nixon came crashing in? Looked like Wyatt was trying to move backwards and Brinson pushed him right into Nixon. Watson is looking very nice out there now. Smooth routes, nice hands... just stay healthy please! Get Reed and Golden back and we might have something. Wicks had some nice plays out there too.
  16. Short week turn around for two teams with SB expectations... yet neither really living up to that hype. The short week probably favors the home Lions over the beat-up Packers, though I expect a few players were held out against the Vikings to be ready for the Lions. Both teams recently beat the NYG...though barely in both cases. Maybe the Packers feel a little better about a close game in NY rather than the Lions having to scramble back before winning on OT at home. But here we are with both teams looking up at the Bears 2/3rds of the way through the season. May Jordan Love always remember the great turkey leg snub... and come back to win it every chance he gets!
  17. Even worse when you realize that at least half of Gary's sacks are due to Parsons looping behind the QB and pushing him up to the LOS and running into Gary (who got nowhere on the pass rush)
  18. Been getting coached up by LeBron...
  19. This happens every year.... We assume just because one player signed for $X million that there are plenty of other players just like him waiting to sign in FA. I made a post a while back grouping players in position of need (e.g. 3B/SS/2B - to replace Ortiz). It came down to about 6 players that would realistically provide more value than Ortiz and about 4 of them would be out of our price range (Bichette, Bergman, etc..). So there ended up being only a couple realistic options in FA. Now you have to convince that player to play for Milwaukee over other teams that also want his services. So which specific player do you have in mind that would sign for $22M (I'll even give you up to 3 years at that price - far more than our exposed risk with Woody) that would be more of an improvement to our team than Woody?
  20. No. We rarely sign FAs anyway. Trades are far more likely to bring in offensive help.
  21. There are a lot of HOF TEs that couldn't block to save their lives... But they could also stay on their feet and hold onto the ball.
  22. Also realize that Madison/Milwaukee has an accent that isn't in the rest of Wisconsin... YET WE ARE STILL FROM WISCONSIN! No, I don't say "bubbler". I didn't hear anyone say "Wes-consin" until I went to MSOE for college. No, Tomah is not "Up North". Yes, the bears still suck. #ProudlyRepresentingTheNorthWoods
  23. Bucks really need a 3 and D SF. Emphasis on the D. GTJ is way out of position. Seems like a non-traditional player like Giannis gets ref-ed to minimize the advantage he has. Bucks need to start doing a promo campaign to show all the terrible non-calls against GA.
  24. I've had to say things like this all the time when people come to complain about a particular worker and you have a performance improvement plan in place for that person... You smile and say things in a positive way because you don't throw them under the bus to others. "Absolutely needs to play more": Translation - his own stupid mistakes kept him off the field. We were sending a message. "We'll make sure that happens": Translation - he is going to run fumble drills all week to drive it in his head. "He did a pretty good job overall": Translation #1 - he had two sucky plays when we put the ball in his hands, but he made a great cheerleader on the sidelines in the second half. Translation #2 - We don't have other options and are stuck with the guy for the year and trashing him to the press would eliminate one of my several bad TE options.
