So I click on the thread link about SS position and see this post first... Yes, the rest of the post was about him at 1B, but when you are thinking SS and see that statement it was worth a good laugh.
Agreed. The one they showed against Suter was a joke. The ump should've called a strike for batter interference. His arm was almost in the strike zone. Two other interesting points to note about Boxberger hitting him: 1) Pina escorted him to 1B and Contreras has no issue with it. I'd assume there must be a friendship between the two so that Contreras allowed it. 2) I appreciate how Baez tried to defuse the situation by coming in to separate Contreras from Suter and others coming out of the dugout. It is understandable when people back up "their guy", but far less often (and more commendable) when someone can look at the situation and work toward cooler heads.
Oh yeah... forgot about Dickey. Just looked up his stats to see how long he lasted. He didn't "figure it out" until he as 35 years old with the NYM. Pitched until he was 42. Very typical knuckle-baller career.
There are 21 balls hit with over 100 MPH EV today. Cardinals have 7, Brewers have 14. Four of the Cardinal's balls had negative launch angle (grounders); Brewer's were all positive LA.
The ball he snagged at first (then threw wild to second) he was just reaching out to get the ball when he had a chance to get his body in front of him. Certainly needs some work defensively.
He was clearly standing in foul territory... I'm assuming the ump felt that the ball was in fair territory when it hit him (i.e. body part leaning into fair ground)?
