  1. 2 walks for Jimmie today. Big part of his success. And controlling that little curve was a big part too.
  2. Boom! Jimmie! Nice Father's day game with a CG against the Fathers. Still throwing 93-96 in the 9th.
  3. Nelson is pitching well. Why pull him??? Let him go back out in the 9th too. He isn't that high on pitch count and still going strong.
  4. I heard that the Zach Davies bobblehead actually weighs more than Zach Davies himself.
  5. He also botched a relatively easy grounder before that. With all the attempts every player is going have the easy misses. And Arcia doesn't make many of them. But not many SSs can make the great plays that we are talking about here.
  6. Man, another great play by Arcia today. Ranged way behind second, spun and threw a perfect throw to first, all while his momentum heading heavily into RF. Thames barely moved to catch the ball.
  7. Trade him to a team that has a young up-coming 2B that they have soured on. Then Sogard can help him tank this year. Then in the offseason, we trade a reliever for him and a few other guys. Only to have him bounce back with us have have a great career. Its a complicated plan, but it worked before...
  8. Of course, the wild card helped that too. We would've made it 1987 if they had the wild card then. Nothing like finishing 5 games ahead of the WS Champion Twins and being 3rd in your own division.
  9. My family and I have attended several games at MP, but this will be the first after adopting a child who is blind. Normally, we tailgate, watch the game, and go home. But this time I'm considering going earlier and spending a bit more time with the other amenities at the park. I'm wondering what might be provide a hands-on experience at MP. Also, I'm going to a day game. What seats are typically in the shade? My memory is saying third base side, but I might be remembering County Stadium too... FYI, if anyone is going to the Thursday game against St. Louis on Aug 3rd, look us up!
  10. Given how quickly this thread went to trades and WAR discussion... no I don't think you are the only one.
  11. Sakowski and Ebert's two thumbs up. Clearly better written. The other one looked something I wrote in 8th grade when I joined the school newspaper.
  12. That is some advanced GM planning right there: Step 1: Identify player we would like to acquire Step 2: Trade another player to said team and sabotage the target player's season Step 3: Pillage said team with a second trade.
  13. [sarcasm]I'm currently in discussions with gatewayredbirds.com to trade away wildcat2237 and liveforoctober for a bag of baseballs. They think its too high...[/sarcasm] How many threads have to devolve into a trade away discussion???
  14. Terrible article... So, the Brewers are 4th, so I go to see why the author thinks so. The only opinion he stated in on the Brewers was to say that Lutz was one of the more promising prep bats in the draft. Other than that, he listed facts (they started with... they didn't ignore pitching when they drafted...). No real explanation as to why he liked the Brewer's draft so much.
  15. I'm always disappointed when someone you think has high potential doesn't perform. But I'm also patient and understand that not everyone develops as fast as others. That in a nutshell is what I've been trying to say. People are expressing disappointment by some performances this year, but not giving up on players being prospects. You have the prospect like Braun/Fielder/Weeks that you expect to perform, did perform and made good or great MLB players. They left little doubt in their MiLB career that they would make the MLB level. We really don't have many of those (none we have drafted). Then there are others like Lucroy that you hoped would do well. Early expectations were lower. He played ok early in his MiLB career, but came on very strong later. Late bloomer might be overstating it. I didn't mean late age wise, but MiLB career wise. Given that many of our players are playing in that Ok, not great category, I expect several will come on like Lucroy. But its hard to wait for that to happen. I don't see many people giving up on our prospects, just expressing frustration in the wait...
  16. You'd have a hard time convincing me that anyone currently in the system would belong in the same conversation as Braun, Fielder, or Weeks as prospects. Those guys were blue chip players. I know Ray was a tip five pick but not all draft classes are created equal. I think you missed my point. The lists aren't there for comparison, they are there for contrast. The point is the recent 1st round picks aren't similar to the Braun/Fielder/Weeks group. And of course there are exceptions for late bloomers (Lucroy). I have no doubt (and quite a few hopes) that we have a several late bloomers in the current crop of players. But still no one (maybe Brinson) categorizes as a no doubt MLB player.
  17. 1st round pick comparisons: Braun (drafted 5th overall) : 1025, 871, 1119 Fielder's (7th): 998, 935, 839, 957 Weeks (2nd): 1052, 773, 1090 Clark (15th): 854, 690, 680* Ray (5th): 678, 738* Haniger(38th): 808, 779, 746, 883, 999 Roache(28th): 762, 697, 763, 749, 618* Coulter(27th): 883, 714, 930, 725, 664, 739* *2017- partial year Braun, Weeks and Fielder did not have bad years. Each one one "down" year, but that "down" year was still pretty good. Very different from our current guys.
  18. Knebel's on pace for 80ip. If he can't handle that at 25yrs old then he shouldn't be pitching. Jeffress threw 68 in 2015. Thornburg threw 67 last year. Andrew Miller threw 74 last year and is on pace for 86 this year. There are several other closers on pace for 74-86ip and a few more on pace for low-70s. It's not so much the innings as it is the appearances and warm-ups. There are lots of examples of guys with high appearances in a season getting hurt. Like Thornburg, whom you brought up. Chad Fox and Chuck Crim are good examples from the ghosts of Brewer past also.
  19. Yes, Hitt is a pitcher, good thing he was drafted by a National League team [smile]. Unless its like calling a bald man, "Curly". But if he pitches like Sheets, he can hit like him too! Trevor Koenig is a 2017 LHP/1B with a 6-10 185 lb. frame from St Cloud, MN who attends St Cloud Technical HS. I wonder if he is a relative to Bronson?
  20. For all the various sign-ability concerns that people voiced during this draft, this is a very good behind-the-scenes view on what actually happens. Not only did Baltimore verify (and not draft him), but the Brewers verified before drafting him. That also means that the both teams had a "budget plan" for each pick that they check live during the draft.
  21. Workman's father, Widd, was a third round pick out of Arizona State in 1996 as a right handed pitcher, marking the fourth time he'd been draft since graduating high school in 1992, in part because he was draft eligible during his two-year LDS mission. Ugh... I graduated HS and College in 1992/1996. So this could've been my kid that was just drafted... I feel old.
  22. Just for future reference your bonus pool is only the first 10 rounds if I remember correctly. So there is no advantage to drafting a college senior after the 10th round. Correct. I'm guessing the normal run on college players was avoided by our depth in the system. No need to dump a bunch of low ceiling college players into the system just to fill out the rosters anymore. So it's very interesting that they are going for these very young players instead. So while they are probably going to be a higher rate of flaming out before hitting A-ball, I'd guess they will find a higher rater of finding MLBers, which is what we all want anyway.
  23. You can check with the hospital also to see if they have support systems available for you. For my youngest, my wife was managing a lot of doctor visits and trying to coordinate different doctors at one time. The hospital assigned my son a patient care advocate (or concierge?) that did all of that for her. That might not be the biggest of your concerns, but every little bit helps. Love your mom, but take care of yourself too.
