  1. If we look back at the Braun/Fielder/Hardy/Weeks/Hart era, those guys were can't miss prospects that produced at a high level at each MiLB level (esp Braun/Fielder). I think the expectations (or maybe hope is a better word) being expressed is that there really isn't anyone that is showing himself to be a standout, can't miss prospect. Lots of good players that will be quality MLBers some day. But only a few people that you can say he is the X (CF, SS, 2B, etc..) of the future.
  2. [sarcasm]That has to be a record to hit 3 grand slams in one inning! Or is that the 3rd grand slam in any 6th inning?[/sarcasm] #GRAMMARFAILURE (noting not MrTPlush's grammar).
  3. An interesting example to those complaining about the possibility that the Brewers would "settle" on a lesser talent to sign him underslot. Lewis' pick was a bit of a surprise, but no one is really complaining that he wasn't first pick worthy. In fact, seems like most people had 5 players that could've been considered at #1. So by making a deal with one of those, the Twins added another 1st round talent in the 3rd round. Given the low, low hit rate on MLB draft picks making the majors, having more is better. The TT drafting strategy works at the MLB level too, its just trickier to make happen.
  4. Brooks Kieschnick 2.0?
  5. So, round 11 coming up. Who will be this year's Chad McClanahan?
  6. He was the 76th rated player (MLB.com's ratings) picked at #84. So that doesn't seem like a need pick (i.e. reach) And sounds like a 1B, not a catcher.
  7. To be fair, Packer fans aren't much better in terms of complaining about their consistently successful team. I guess everyone always wants more. [sarcasm]Equating Packer fans to Cardinal Fans is a ban-able offense...[/sarcasm]
  8. Trent Clark is around #8 in the BF.net ratings. I'd guess he would fit in before or after him.
  9. I'll lock this thread in favor of our other draft discussion threads now that the draft has started.
  10. I just moved to Prior Lake. Good to know I have nice neighbors!
  11. You can still save money with some later picks too - take some college seniors that have no real leverage. Fairly sure we did this with Allemand recently. You wouldn't save a ton necessarily, but you could certainly get some back if you needed to. You can but the slots titrate down. It was actually Trey York and we saved only like 150K by doing it. Allemand was a 5th round pick that got $50k or something really small. York was another example.
  12. Speed rating of 100 because he can pitch to himself...
  13. Luis Campusano = love child of Chris Capuano and Lou Palmisano
  14. How does a "plus bat" actually project? 300+ BA? 280?
  15. Can't he just go back to college, have an elite season with no off-field issues all year, and count on top-10 money as a senior? (Easier said than done, but at least he can threaten that) This is the major question I've had with the slot system. It seems like the hard to sign guys are all HS guys who want to go to college...but most of the college guys are juniors, so couldn't they play the same game? Or are they afraid that as a senior sign the next year a team would just give them a low-ball offer well below slot? Sure, HS players can, but there are no guarantees. Injuries, bad seasons, etc... hard to walk away from guaranteed money when its good money. Plus some kids simply don't want to go to college. Same with college juniors. But they play the risk of having a bad year and losing money and tied to a senior sign bonus.
  16. For me it really depends on what's available. The 9th best talent is not necessarily the same type of talent from draft to draft. It looks like this one, outside of the top handful, there is a decent drop off. In that case, If I can get payer A with B+ level talent, payer B with C+ talent and palyer C with C level talent or I can get players D, E and F with B- level talent, I might go with the second option there. Or if their first pick options are 5 different A- players and they chose the lowest ranked and that allows them to snag a B+ player (Beck) in the normal range of B/B- area, why not?
  17. Interesting. The only top 10 draft slot that is worse than drafting 9th is drafting 8th. Also, you have equal chance in drafting 20th as 5th. And 19th ain't no slouch either. Forget about tanking. We should aim for 20th this year!

  19. I'm not sure why we would be interested except that he is a former Brewer... He had a few good years relieving, but has a very high walk rate (4BB/9IP). Previously, his K rate could cover that (8+/9IP). Now, at 33 years old, his K rate has dropped (5.8 this year 5.4 last). In a couple weeks after getting him, people would be griping about why Stearns bothered. We are better off looking at AAA for new arms.
  20. We have plenty of crap on the 40 man before we'd give up on Broxton. As much as I want to see him shipped down to AAA to right the ship, he doesn't belong off the 40. Agreed. I don't think give up, but perhaps sent to AAA. That might depend on how Maverick and Brinson look however. I only caught one of Brinson's ABs this game and it was an ugly swing at everything strikeout. But I'd guess (hope) he is pressing to get his first hit too.
  21. Just took a look at Fangraphs Pitching Fx. Anderson was 91-91.5 over the last three years and averaging 93 this year. Nice to see the improvement.
