    Maverick platooned with Broxton, I don't think that would be the worst thing for either of them. He could spot start in LF/RF also to give Braun and Santana a break. Plus pinch hitting. If they think he can't learn anything more at the AAA level, everything above is pretty much how to move forward.

    I think it dilutes the actual graduations. You don't get a diploma for leaving 4K, Kindergarten or 8th grade... Yes, its more for the parents, but it seems like a waste of time and money to me.

    With a righty on the mound tonight, and Shaw on paternity, no reason not to have Perez at 3rd and Phillips starting in left, wouldn't you think ? I would guess Perez man's 3B most of the time, thus leaving LF for Maverick. Does Sogard have the arm for 3B? We need to keep Villar away from 3B if possible. Maybe sit Maverick for a tough lefty, but otherwise play him!

    Yeah, that ended up being a huge haul for Thornburg. - Good starting 3B - fringe All-Star this year. - Potential starting SS/2B close to being ready - Injured SP that is a number of years from the MLB - Their second best (third best with Dubon I'd assume) middle infielder Right now, Shaw alone makes it a steal. Dubon is making it look like highway robbery. Anything out of the last two makes it a wow trade.

    It's funny that you say "that's about it" as if it's nothing or easy. Staying mentally focused and sharp for 162 games is not a simple thing. Lots of things can energize or drain energy from a team. When a player is struggling through a drought or having problems with another player, its really easy to let those issues get into your head and ruin your performance. Conversely, having a light-hearted club house and a place where people feel comfortable goes a long way to energizing a team. I think of Mike Cameron and the untuckem' days as probably the best Brewer example of a team that cheered each other on and had a lot of fun at the ball park. It was evident in their play everyday. And no, a team of 25 team-centric guys does not make this happen automatically. People naturally search for leadership. No, they don't need everyone on the exact same page as running a Packer sweep left or Packer sweep right. But that doesn't mean baseball doesn't require leadership or team play.

    Stearns has been here less than 1.5 seasons. I don't think you can say he has any track record at this point. I still say that moving him to the BP permanently based on his struggles at CS is a mistake. Though, I do fully support moving him the MLB BP (and out of CS) to get his feet wet and stretching him back out later. In fact, this might very well be the solution the team is coming up with to handle guys that struggle at CS, but rely heavily on breaking pitches.

    I agree with you. Baseball is mostly a game of individual performances. Chemistry is necessary at times between a pitcher and catcher, and fielders should know what their responsibilities are as well as the guys around them, but I don't know how much either of those has to do with leadership. It's not like youngster Santana is going to come up to bat and try harder to hit a HR because of a passionate speech Thames gave him. Leadership in baseball is necessary to the extent that if Villar gets thrown out trying to steal 3rd with 2 outs twice in a week, someone needs to tell him to cut it out, probably the manager. But that's about it. I'd disagree with this. Leadership in baseball is very different than in football or basketball. But its still necessary. You have 30+ guys (over the course of a season) that play 162 games, travel with each other, practice together, etc... You still need leaders in the team to keep guys pushing and giving their best. The season is a grind and good leaders are there to make sure the each individual is still giving their all. I think if you look at each WS team, you are going to find certain people that are leaders of the clubhouse. People don't give their best in a divided clubhouse.

    This wins. Career ERA of 0.00, 10.5k/9IP, WHIP of 0.8: It doesn't get any better than that. I'll vote for WEGs too. But Bosio should be excluded simply based on his pitching coach career with the Cubs. He was a jerk has a player, but doubled down as a coach for the Cubs. Especially recently.

    I work in a relatively small office building (around 100 people). It drives me nuts when you walk past someone in the hallway and they look everywhere to avoid eye contact. Yes, we are mostly engineers and rather deal with computers than people, but really? A smile and a head nod is too much human interaction? One of the bigger "offenders" is a research manager. Every time I walk past his office, his door is closed. Half the time I walk by, he is sleeping.

    Ouch, completely forgot about those two. They were a bit before my time, but certainly worth being on this list.

    [sarcasm]No way. He has to be #3 (i.e. 1B)[/sarcasm] Burnitz isn't close. He had a nice year or two, but he was never THAT good, nor for very long (neither good nor with the Brewers). Jenkins is closer, but still wasn't that good either. He was a good player on a bad team, but really more of a league average guy that played here a long time. Sheets, Higuera, Cirillo, Thomas, Ogilvie, Weeks, Money, Plesac, BJ Surhoff, Lucroy, Juan Nieves (the only team no-hitter needs some credit), Rob Deer (ok, I'm stretching that one, but he was my favorite player as a kid). I think they are all in there. Sheets and Higuera had similar peaks, but Sheets lasted longer. Plesac gets under rated as a RP, but he was pretty dominant both here and elsewhere. BJ gets knocked because of high expectations as a 1st overall draft pick, but he had a long and good career overall. To be fair, Jenkins and BJ are probably neck-and-neck. Cirillo has the highest team batting average and was strong defensively. I'm surprised no one threw out Weeks and Lucroy. Lucroy was probably better overall than BJ, but didn't stay as long as a Brewer. Weeks was also tainted by being the #2 overall pick and we expected more from him. But he was still pretty good. From that group, I would pick: 9 Sheets 10 Cirillo

    I didn't think putting Peralta in that situation was a bad one. Going into extra innings, and Wily give you the chance to go 2-3 innings. He did very well the first inning, but they forgot to have Knebel rub the ball before Wily's second inning. BTW, Knebel's was unreal with 3ks in the 10th. That last K where he dropped in a 3-2 curveball just buckled Duda's knees and fooled me on the TV too (I thought it was a high FB). Duda just rolled his eyes and walked back to the dugout. Wicked!

    Yes, Torres came in to pitch and took his spot in the lineup. Granted, that happened right after he was caught stealing (on a very good throw from the catcher).

    Madeline Island in Lake Superior is very much like Door county with all the B&Bs. You have to take a Ferry over from Bayfield. There are also a couple camping spots on the island too. Very friendly biking. Lots of quaint shops, restaurants and attractions (in Bayfield too). Duluth has really grown in tourism also. A lot of neat spots there. Lake Geneva is also very nice (Grand Geneva Resort). Or you can go on the west side of the lake and spend a little less for similarly nice places in Delevan. Make sure you take the mail boat delivery tour and watch the college kids deliver the mail to the mansions on the lake by boat. (Spoiler: the boat doesn't stop and wait for the kids) Hayward, WI has a lot of interesting fishing/lumberjack related activities if rustic is more your style. Rent a cabin on a lake and go for a lumberjack breakfast. Pepin, WI and Lake City, MN have some nice quiet small-town activities on Lake Pepin. Little House on the Prairie museums also.

    Not to mention that if you are looking for a perfect GM that never passed on a great player for a so-so one, you will have a short list. He made some questionable moves at times, but he made some very good ones too.

    Five years ago, Brett would've easily been our best prospect. Now that its debatable isn't a indictment of Maverick, but a testimony to our system. He had a so-so performance last year, which hurt him a bit. But he is up there with a lot of the others. It will be interesting to see which of the AAA OFers are called up first. They are all playing well.

    Its about innings. Getting the work in. A MiLB reliever might get 40-50 innings per year. A starter will get 3x that many innings. Jimenez has a MiLB career BB/9IP of 2.6, so I doubt he ever had much for control issues. Kodi certainly needs more opportunities to work on his repeatability and control. Yes, he CAN work on that out of the pen, but I think you reduce his chances of success by doing so. And I certainly hope that the development staff doesn't use ERA as a milestone of "success". Because as others have pointed out, he has been more successful this year despite the ERA.

    Kodi may very well end up in the pen, but its not a good development plan to just move him there. He needs innings and time to work on control. If he eventually goes to the BP, I would imagine he would follow Wang's route to the pen. Some time starting at AA, then moving to the BP.

    Wow, I'm glad we don't have that LF. Neither of those balls are easy catches, but it didn't look like he even tried. Greinke is probably going to go off on him in the locker room later. And to think we traded Maldonado for him... What was LAAOA thinking?

    They need a catchier name than Cooperativa Milwaukee-Cleveland. Any ideas? Brew-Land? Great Lakes Amigos? The Wild Things seems appropriate!

    2017 Hader = 2016 Lopez. Hard to know if its a CS aberration or a bad indication of things to come. I tend to think CS is snowballing on those guys and once it becomes a mental thing, its hard to overcome it. It will be interesting if they promote Lopez direct to the MLB club this year and how he handles it once there.
