  1. I doubt he is throwing much with a hamstring injury. You need your legs to throw. I hope they don't have him throwing "arm only". And That mentioned it was before the end of July, and knowing how much he reads and listens to podcasts, I'd imagine he is quoting the Brewer's timeline and not his guess.
  2. That kid doesn't keep his elbow up at all! I doubt he will be drafted.
  3. Being called a kid is rarer by the day... I'll take it.
  4. This actually makes your anti-lock brakes less effective.
  5. No Could have fooled me. People here tend to never describe anything specific in the game (mechanically, etc) rather just cite analytics. Hence watching video. Or games for that matter [sarcasm]Personally, I think he should hold his elbow higher. More like Corey Hart....[/sarcasm] Just remember that save for a couple people here that do make a living from baseball, the rest of us are amateur evaluators having fun...
  6. We used to do number threads so much better... Coincidentally, I am 43 years old.
  7. I wish I could play in MLB with a near .400 OBP and on pace for 40-50 HR. Man I would make a ton of money. That OBP was well below .300 last month. Specifically 163/267/402/669 with a 37% K rate in June. So yeah, I want him to make adjustments and look more like the guy in April (or even May).
  8. Included in Saturday night's podcast is the exciting news that 19-year-old Helena RHP Carlos Herrera (Adam Lind deal with Seattle) is going to tandem with LHP Drake Owenby on Sunday, when the Herrera transfer transaction becomes official. Remember when Daniel Missaki was considered the best prospect of those three? Any word on him? At least two of those three Lottery tickets are looking pretty good.
  9. I'm not sure what you mean by "replaceable"? Are you thinking about trading one and promoting Cooper? As for "real", I think you probably have a reasonable theory that the platoon is maximizing their production. Because I tend to think that both are playing over their heads and will fall back to earth given a large enough sample size. Thames was out at Pluto for a while and has fallen back to our atmosphere, but still playing ok. By the way, Thames' 3TO percentage this year is over 50%
  10. MLB ratings have Burnes at: FB: 55 Slider: 50 CB: 50 Change: 45 Those might improve as they have him pretty underrated, but those aren't exactly plus ratings.
  11. That same report also states he has three average or better than average pitches. "Elite" is the only word that might evoke a plus rating in that narrative. The concern is that he might be dominating MiLB players, but the transition to MLB is a big one. And some things that trick MiLB players don't for MLB ones. Think about Mike Fier's success in the minors vs majors. I think Burnes' stuff has better chance to translate to the MLB level, but I'm not ready to say he will dominate that level as a TOR yet. But having Burnes, Woodruff, Ortiz and Hader all coming along could make a nice rotation in the near future.
  12. Yep. And considering the current state of the franchise -- a capped out 42 win team, who lucked into a 22 year old superstar -- all of those choices look even WORSE than they did at the time. Luck...good drafting... I think we have a bit more than that. There are a lot of good pieces in place right now. I guess we will find out what the 1st round pick would've been next year, but I won't lose sleep over it.
  13. I'm a big Burnes fan, but he doesn't have great stuff. Great results, however. Prospect lists are going to lean to stuff over results.
  14. [sarcasm]If Braun could play third, I'm sure Hiura could handle it.[/sarcasm]
  15. Nick Ramirez is hitting 294/429/647 this year.
  16. So, Aguilar is beating the Yankees into submission tonight and its time for the debate to begin. Right now, there is a soft platoon between Thames and Aguilar at 1B. And both players have been player well this year. And I would imagine that the platoon would continue for a while at least as Counsell plays the hot hand. But, are either of these players "real"? Can either one continue their big improvements from this year? Who do you see as the long term starter at 1B? Aguilar 27 years old. 2017: 288/350/525; career: 257/320/436 (Numbers are without his 2HR night against the Yankees) Thames 30 years old. 2017: 245/375/566; career: 248/321/471
  17. Biggest Aguilar news of the night: not his 2 HR, but that it wasn't chew in his lip, but finger nails...
  18. That was the most Wisconsin thing I have seen on this forum in a long time. Complement accepted. I wear my cheesehead with pride.
  19. I've also read that the Rays cannot use the slot money from the Rasmussen pick on other drafted players. Why? Does anyone know the rules regarding that? I could understand a rule to protect players so teams don't have motivation to pick a player in round one with no intention of signing him so they can overspend later. But in this case I would assume that Rasmussen did get a minimum qualifying offer if the Rays are expecting a compensatory pick in 2018. Re: Draft slot money. The drafted player must be signed in order for the slot money pool to be available. You are correct that this is to prevent them from drafting someone they don't really want to give another player a big bucket of money. The minimum qualified offer is only to get the comp draft pick next year and doesn't effect the slot $$ available. What might be interesting is that next year's draft is supposed to be very deep. So if you don't like what you have available this year, "pushing" the draft pick to next year is an interesting idea.
  20. There are some subjective things that would be difficult to measure - Situational batting calls (bunts, 3-0 green lights, etc..) - Contact plays when on 3rd base - General coaching / Interpersonal type stuff. But if you limit it to baserunning decisions (which is mainly the complaint that I hear about Sedar), I think you can quantify it. The biggest problem would be sample size, but I don't think the other variables are that hard to control. - Define close plays at the plate - Perhaps this is anytime a player going to the plate has the ball thrown to the catcher - Count only instances where the runner didn't originate at 3B (i.e. where the coach actually sent him home). Then tally the percentage of success. Again, small sample sizes will be your enemy, but at some point it becomes large enough to negate the luck aspect. As I posted above, compare that success rate to the chances of scoring from 3rd based on the situation (# of outs). Ideally, you are aggressive enough to approach the same success rate of scoring from 3rd, but not below it.
  21. Microsoft Word has a feature called "Save and Send", which I often use to email someone a document at work. However, if you have not saved the document BEFORE you hit "Save and Send", it complains that you haven't saved it and exits out of the function. GAME05, This stuff is not interesting.
  22. And here I thought it was all keeping bears from stealing pic-a-nic baskets! You have an odd definition of not interesting. Not fun perhaps, but certainly interesting.
  23. 77 RBIs is a big tribute to those around him too. This is possibly the best AAA that I can remember that wasn't a team full of AAAA players.
  24. If it was just for a bat I would've guessed Brinson, but when you've got Perez to play LF when Braun DH's, I guess there's not much point to bringing him up to just sit on the bench. I would've preferred they brought up Brinson and played Perez at 2B.
  25. I think the last thing Thames needs is to be in the HR derby. He needs to adjust for the second half. It would be embarrassing if he struck out, which is about how well he is playing...
