  1. Sankey started scouting Gideon when he was a freshman at Texas A&M in 2014 and added him to a list of players for the organization to follow when he played in the Northwoods League in 2015 (where he hit eight home runs in 34 games for the La Crosse Loggers) before meeting him for the first time in 2016. Right in my own backyard and I still don't go see any games... I keep saying "this year"...
  2. Gideon was amazing last year, but as a college guy at R+ ball, I'll wait to see how he does at A-ball before I get too excited. I'm about equally excited about Garcia and Gideon on my 1B depth chart. Less of a sleeper pick, but despite what the scouting reports stated, Burnes (4) and Brown (5) have legitimate chances to remain SPs at the MLB level. Burnes might have #2 potential. Trey York was a shocker pick for me. Very little scouting on the guy, signed as a senior with minimal signing bonus, I thought he was drafted to play the signing pool bonus game and become MiLB depth only. But he hit well at R+ and A+ (Brevard of all places!) Chad McClanahan is less of a sleeper given how he was drafted and signed and didn't wow anyone with stats. But has good potential. Probably another 1B however.
  3. He still caught a bunch of games, but just about every report said that wasn't his future. Interesting candidate for a utility guy (1B, DH, backup/emergency catcher), but not anyone to lose sleep over.
  4. Mario Feliciano, Payton Henry, Francisco Thomas and Chad McClanahan were all pretty aggressive prep drafts even if they did load up on a bunch of college arms in rounds 3-10. I would guess that we will see more of the same. In order to maximize their signing allotments they: 1) Drafted cost controlled players in the top 10. This means that some of these guys are senior college players that have little choice. I don't think that this means that the top 3 will ALWAYS be college guys, but there will be some tendency to be more college heavy (especially #4-10). 2) That allows us to go after some guys that slipped and sign them overslot. Those guys will almost always be HS players. I don't think that means we will never draft HS players high (especially in the top 3), but certainly the top 10 will be college heavy. Neither does that mean that the ceilings of the top guys will be lowered. Certainly the later top 10 draft picks will be ceiling limited, but that mainly to grab a HS guy at a higher ceiling in a lower slot. Thus its a trade-off to get a better overall draft.
  5. Technically, we learned it from Obi-won, who outed himself as a Sith...
  6. Brewers could certainly use an upgrade over Kirk Nieuwenhuis as an extra OF that's useful against RHP. But you don't replace him with a RH hitting OF. Unless that RH hitting OF hits better than 236/321/414/735 against RHP. That isn't impossible.
  7. My comments were a bit of "broad brush", but both Perez and Groome fell much farther than initially thought. Of course, generally bad things must happen for that to occur.
  8. I was hoping the Brewers could be awful enough in 2016 to land Hunter Greene but no such "luck" Its a long way between now and the draft. Including a whole BB season to play for HS and College. Stranger things have happened.
  9. Phillips also hit a bullet up the middle and the pitcher got a glove on it like 2' behind him and it happened to drop right near him for the put out. These show up 0-1 in the box score but clearly they were great AB's you'd take every time. He also tattooed one pitch and hit a line drive out of the stadium, but pulled it just foul. Then struck out soon after. Another 0-1 AB, but hitting it well.
  10. This^. Plus the fact that he is probably our #5 CF at best in the minors (I have him at #7 without Broxton) it would by hard to protect him. We are going to see people grabbing Rule 5 picks from our MiLB squad over the next coming years, but that is a good indicator of our depth. The key will be identifying and protecting the high end guys and not worrying about the MLB contributors...
  11. I'd guess the team he was traded to would decide. Most likely he would just go home as the other team probably had their AFL quota filled already. But I'm guessing the situation is very rare. Not many trades going on right now.
  12. The arrest isn't troubling, but the attitude and actions that led up to it aren't impressive.
  13. JB, I'm pretty sure the uproar is singularly and solely focused on your continued and constant man-Khrush. We get it. You didn't like the trade. But you have brought up Davis' stats in dozens of threads. Often without the topic of Nottingham, Sterns or Davis even being mentioned. Here we are in the AFL thread talking about Nottingham and everyone was sure Davis would come up by you. I'm also sure the uproar is cross-generational. As I'm not a millennial and I know several other "old guys" that are tired of the Davis schtick. And if you think I have an axe to grind about Davis, you can see that my Top25 posts from when he was in the minor leagues that I was consistently higher than the average on Davis. I was probably the first one to rate him above Kentrail Davis. The horse is dead. Water has gone under the bridge, down the river, hit the ocean, evaporated, fell as snow while someone sang "Let it Go", melted, and gone under the bridge a second time.
  14. Certainly. He had more than just the typical AAA struggles last year as he lost his control. I'm sure the thin air's effect on his CB didn't help anything. But I would expect him to be able to bounce back from last year. His AA gave us huge hope and last season brought those back down. I'd guess he will be a #3-4 SP yet.
  15. Haha what?! Not everyone appreciates schadenfreude threads like this one.
  16. Ok, they won. [sarcasm]So we need some sort of scandal and disqualification to happen, right? [/sarcasm] Yes, that was quite a game 7 despite the outcome. Back and forth the whole game with the Indians threatening right to the end...
  17. And I'd guess that we start seeing some Rule 5 losses for a similar reasoning. Can't protect them all.
  18. I mean......I agree, but this changes nothing. Nobody *cares* really. I mean they care, but this won't change how more than potentially a handful of people change their substance use habits. It didn't happen to their family, so it literally does not matter in the greater scheme of things. For most people, there's a disconnect. You have to see this hit home before it makes any sense. Isn't that enough to make it worth releasing the information???
  19. 8:30PM Central on MLB.com Thanks for the heads up.
  20. They are probably wishing their pitching didn't suck so bad outside of two games. Giving up 8 runs twice and 10 runs once is the real problem they had. Shhhh... don't tell them that. They need Braun as their LF. And they need him bad! Bad enough to give up a bunch of prospects...
  21. Not to mention that Ray will probably be at A+ next year. Given Clark seems the least likely of our CF high draft picks to actually remain in CF, he shouldn't be taking CF reps from Harrison or Ray. Trent is also the more likely of the two to be promoted to A+ ball. Unfortunately Harrison still needs time there.
  22. Do light and TV also have the same effect on melatonin (I fall asleep all the time while watching TV)? Yes, but each person is effected differently of course. Your body may still produce it despite light. But if you are having problems getting to sleep, avoiding screen time can help.
  23. Burnes and Super (3 spots) Super Suter? Thanks for compiling it all!
  24. Not sure Cleveland would be ok with Bartman throwing out first pitch in their stadium but whatever. Isn't he the ultimate anti-Cub hero? The enemy of my enemy is my friend? (Yes, I realize Bartman is a Cubs fan ... or was anyway)
  25. ...before it gets too cold outside. Its NEVER too cold to grill or smoke.
