  1. I found they got me to sleep right quick but a couple hours later I'd be wide awake from some bizarre nightmare. My 2¢. Correct. Melatonin will only help you get to sleep, it won't keep you asleep. Your body generally starts making Melatonin when the sun goes down. TV and other screens (phone, tablet) have been known to interfere with that and prevent your body from making it. Samsung just came out with a setting on the Note7s (no, it didn't burn up on me) that limit the amount of blue light emitted from the device to help prevent this effect. I don't use my phone at night much, so I didn't notice. Now my Samsung S7 doesn't have that setting.
  2. Flanagan said infielders Jake Gatewood, Wes Wilson, Ronnie Gideon and Chad McClanahan and catcher Payton Henry all turned heads with their play. Considering Gatewood is the only name in that list on my top 25, but all of them are on my watch carefully list, this comment made me feel all warm inside...
  3. Steve Bartman catching the game 7 winning home run (by the Indians) just inches above the outstretched glove of Heyward. "Wild Thing" is then played over the loud speakers in celebration.
  4. But I wonder if the draft might bring greater exposure to the problem? The Brewers (and I would assume other small market teams) have had varied interest in Latin America because we rarely have a chance to sign the best players. Wouldn't the draft give reason to have a larger scout presence (and media coverage) due to the draft? Personally, I thought his first two paragraphs were a joke. Maybe a couple small market teams exceeded their bonus pools, but not nearly as many as the huge signings of the big market teams.
  5. I still prefer seeing what Pina/Susac can do this year.
  6. When Erceg is promoted he slides to 3b in Carolina given Diaz will occupy SS. I don't think Diaz at SS is a given. They moved him to 2B this year without anyone special (Luis Aviles) playing SS instead. I can't imagine what Erceg has left to prove at A-ball. Start him at Carolina, if he continues to hit, send him to Biloxi.
  7. Got to love Frank! Nice that even though he was from Chicago, he appeases Wisconsin fans by being a Chisox fan. Earlier, I was joking with a Cubs fan that I purchased post-season tickets to all the Cubs game and sent them to Bartman. He had a very negative reaction.
  8. I thought that line sounded funny too. But I'm guessing he is coming from a baseball purist perspective and Tebow in the AFL means another player that has a higher potential to reach the MLB is excluded. But these are businesses and if I can invest $100k and get back $101k, I've succeeded as a business.
  9. Given the success of Villar and Broxton at the MLB level last year (stealing a blocked player in another org for a low cost trade), I'd hope we continue that process this year with 1B, 3B and C in mind. We are sort of prepared at C next year with possible long term catchers (Susac and Pina), but more wouldn't hurt. 1B is similar with Carter and Cooper, except a lower chance that either is a long term solution. But 3B is certainly a great opportunity without any long term solutions save for lower levels of the minor league.
  10. I've had some insomnia issues in the past and you might want to review your bedtime routines: - Avoid phone/tablet screen time in the first hour before bed. Limit (or eliminate) TV to slower paced shows. - Don't eat right before bed. - When I go to bed, I envision myself in a peaceful, serene environment that relaxes me. For me, I envision myself flying a small single engine plane over the Mississippi river valley. - Work out in the evening to tire yourself physically. I have a desk job, so I come home mentally tired, but not physically. So it makes it harder to sleep. Stress from work was my major bugaboo in sleeping. So disengaging my mind from thinking about those issues right before bed was pretty critical. - One option that I think is very good is to list your issues for the next day (at the end of work or early in the evening; hours before bed) and write out what you will do about them. Then you have resolution set and worry about them less. --> Then do something else to get your mind off of them. If you think ZQuill is the problem, take a smaller amount each night until you have none. But I'm guessing its probably more about stress and or other stimulus at bed time.
  11. So the question is whether they will be ranked at all during the season... or even make it to March Madness (top 65).
  12. Overcooked beef: - Overcooked on the outside or all around? - If outside, you are probably too high of temp or too close to the coals. Texas crutch (tin foil) can help too after a couple hours in the smoke. Also, going past 2 hours in the smoke can also lead to bitter taste. - If overcooked all around, you might need a new thermometer.
  13. I love having to pay for the problems that other people cause. [sarcasm]What do you mean? You moved to St. Louis and now Chicago. Why man...why? [/sarcasm]
  14. Good point, I hadn't really thought of that... There isn't that good of a talent every year, but certainly some years will be: Tank! Tank! Tank!
  15. Is having separate International and "Domestic" drafts really the way to go, however? Wouldn't it make more sense to have one single draft and extend it by 10 rounds?
  16. I am confused about his power description on the report. So he currently has homerun power but it projects as double power in the future? How does that work? When he turns 50, those HR are really going to drop off...
  17. Erceg did hit 281/328/497/825 at age 21 (league average is 21.5). And he was 870+OPS for two months before a major Sept fade. I certainly ignore Maryville/Helena stats for college players, but he certainly succeeded against guys at his level. For that reason, I'm waiting to see what Ronnie Gideon can do at A-ball before getting too excited about him.
  18. I'm pleasantly surprised by the defense comment for Erceg after his rough start in Helena.
  19. I don't want us signing a 30+ year old free agent player for 5-7 years and $100-200M. Those deals rarely work out well. While that hasn't worked out for us, that isn't a universal truth. Where would the Cubs be without their FA SP additions? They would be the 2011 Brewers. All offense, no pitching. I don't think the Dodgers regret signing Zack Greinke. Certainly larger market teams have the payroll to better manage the risk of those signings. But there are times when those signings make perfect sense. We just need to do better at identifying the SPs we should target and stop giving big money to #3/#4 SPs.
  20. Just for comparison sake, I took the average performance of all 1B that (with the qualified number of ABs) and came up with: 270/353/472/825. - NOTE: only 19 1Bs had that many ABs. So if we included 1B production for the other 11 teams, I'd assume this number would decrease. So obviously, Carter's AVE and OBP are lower than average, but his OBP is really still in the acceptable range. And his OPS is pretty much at the average. His defense is in the bottom third of MLB 1B. A few things to remember about the $8M number: - Salaries will go up every year and we always underestimate how much people will sign for. - The Brewers have rarely gone to arbitration in the past, but settled on an amount prior to arbitration. So its not like we have to accept $8M or cut him. We can still negotiate in the $5-7M range. Possibly a 2yr deal for $10-12M would help keep him out of arby. Seeing that we don't have any viable 1B in the system (unless Braun or Santana are moved) and there aren't any great 1B in FA that we will want to sign, I would be shocked if we don't bring Carter back for at least next year. Chicks dig the long ball...
  21. No idea on what they did for Corey, but repair is the "normal" procedure. And certainly removal isn't great, but a baseball player has far less stress on his knees than a basketball player.
  22. Would not even surprise me if he's in Milwaukee at some point in 2017, either as SP, or more likely out of the pen. That isn't a bad idea... Start him at AA as a starter (or probably a limited starter like Ponce did this year) for the first half, then move him to the BP in the second half. Could be called up earlier than Sept if he does well. Then back to AAA in 2018 to build up his innings.
  23. Any predictions on top ratings for either team? I'm guessing top 4 for Wisconsin. I don't know Marquette enough to guess.
  24. Scooter had a .733 OPS against RHB last year. The goal should be to find someone better than that. Which side of the plate he does it from is irrelevant.
